CNN Stung by Faked Video?

HotAir.com blogs about CNN maybe falling victim to a faked video…

A little more investigation determined that one of the doctors in the video is notorious terrorist apologist Mads Gilbert. The older brother, meanwhile, is no mere “free-lance cameraman” but the owner of a business that hosts Internet web sites for Hamas. In other words, this looks an awful attempt at propaganda that only a “professional” media outlet with a pre-existing animus to Israel would put on the air without any checking of sources.

CNN has pulled the video from its rotation and its web site, without any explanation or retraction. We’ll see if they own up to their mistake, or simply hope no one notices.

  1. “A pre-existing animus towards Israel.” That’s a loaded and baseless attack on CNN. Talk about hot air.

  2. I agree. Considering Wolf Blitzer the former AIPAC member hosts 20 hours a week. If anything CNN’s pro-Israel most of the time. (Personally, I prefer balanced coverage of both sides. Its not anti-Isreal to report they kill children, ram relief boats, bomb UN schools, or shoot at aid workers.)

With that said, the screen grab is from CNNI. I’m unsure if CNNI simulcasts all 20 hours of Blitzer a week.

Which means you need to go out and find the info on this war. Because relying on just CNN MSNBC FNC will leave you grossly misinformed.

  3. Terence, it IS anti-Israel when you report those things without context.

They don’t target children. Hamas does. The UN school they bombed had Hamas shooting mortars from there and storing anti-tank arms in. These things don’t get reported.

All we see are the pictures of how horrible the devastation is. We don’t hear the stories that the Palestinians hide in schools, or send their kids to rooftops so they can win the propaganda war.

  4. >The UN school they bombed had Hamas shooting mortars from there and storing anti-tank arms in.

    (Haaretz)

UN: IDF officers admitted there was no gunfire from Gaza school which was shelled

So, who’s pushing the propaganda now?

  5. Terence, Reuters reports that the HEADMASTER & science teacher at the school was a rocket builder for Islamic Jihad.

There is evidence the school was booby trapped by Hamas, and the AP reports neighbors saw Hamas firing mortars near the school.

Need the links? I’ve got ‘em.

Reuters & AP don’t exactly have a history of being pro-Israel, either.

  6. Maybe you have the schools mixed up, BigPropoganda! I mean, they DID bomb TWO schools.

Also, “About 30 people were killed and many were wounded when Israeli forces shelled a house where they had ordered about 100 Palestinian civilians to take shelter, witness told the U.N.”

Just admit you shill for Israel and lets call it a day. Because if you can’t admit being wrong.. there is no sense talking to you about it anymore.

Really, trying to rationalize the wholesale slaughter of women and children who live within SEALED BORDERS is really pathetic.

  7. Oh yes, let us solve now the Middle East problem on a cable news blog. Next up, abortion. Then, gun control!

  8. You’re right terance. We’ll call it a day. Israel has no right to defend themselves from terrorists who fire rockets at them on a daily basis.

CNN posted phony video….and it was the “international media” that you champion so often that got the story wrong. But let’s turn that into an attack on Israel.

    Great job out of you.

  9. You have just witnessed BigPropoganda rationalizing the slaughter of 700+ and maiming of 2000+ in two weeks, eh! (Apparently in his world, the life of one Israeli is worth 20 Palestinians!)

    Call me unsurprised.

Concerning CNNI: I never mentioned them as one of my sources for international news. And have no idea whether the video is real or phony.

  10. First of all, let’s get back to the story at hand.

CNN has pulled the video from its rotation and its web site, without any explanation or retraction. Hmmm……

Now, let’s just imagine that there’s a group that openly pronounced they want to wipe you, your family, your friends, your neighbors and everyone you associate with off the face of the planet.

Also imagine that same group lobs rockets at your neighborhood day after day after day.

What the hell would you do???? Sit there and take it???

Every innocent life lost is a tragedy.

But the Israelis are targeting the HAMAS TERRORISTS. Hamas doesn’t give a damn about how many civilians they kill. They don’t care if they lose their own lives, or risk that of their families.

There are a large part of the Palestinians who are blaming HAMAS for this war, as they should.

Stop firing rockets, and Israel wouldn’t be attacking. It’s pretty simple.

But I guess Israel is the bad guy in your warped mind, right?

  11. CNN removed the video yesterday….now they’ve put it back up and are actually defending it.

It looks like total crap to me.

  12. And terence, my response to you is still “awaiting moderation”, so here’s a portion of it.

let’s just imagine that there’s a group that openly pronounced they want to wipe you, your family, your friends, your neighbors and everyone you associate with off the face of the planet.

Also imagine that same group lobs rockets at your neighborhood day after day after day.

What would you do???? Sit there and take it???

Every innocent life lost is a tragedy.

But the Israelis are targeting the HAMAS TERRORISTS. Hamas doesn’t give a damn about how many civilians they kill. They don’t care if they lose their own lives, or risk that of their families.

  13. >Also imagine that same group lobs rockets at your neighborhood day after day after day.

    >What would you do???? Sit there and take it???

No. I would suggest sending in their intelligence service to take these guys out one on one. (Which means civilian casualties should be zero but then again.. They’d probably need to have guts for that type of mission.)

    >But the Israelis are targeting the HAMAS TERRORISTS. Hamas doesn’t give a damn about how many civilians they kill. They don’t care if they lose their own lives, or risk that of their families.

Yeah. Like that story going around how the IDF led 100 civilians to a house and bombed it 24 hours later? Sure it could have been an accident. However, I don’t give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Especially when they’ve been caught in many lies. (They also lied about ramming the boat with Karl Penhaul on it and changed their story a couple of times.) Also, will the Israelis be giving the 2000+ “survivors” prosthetic arms and legs?

    >let’s just imagine that there’s a group that openly pronounced they want to wipe you, your family, your friends, your neighbors and everyone you associate with off the face of the planet.

Lets not imagine, turn on the tv, and watch Israel wipe the Palestinians off the map in real time. I don’t have a problem with Israel publicly executing the Hamas terrorists. I just don’t like innocent women, children and men getting caught in the middle of it. You have to understand when the Israelis drop flyers telling people to leave that is one fat joke. WTF are they supposed to go? Israel has them “walled” in. Certainly you must have a little bit of compassion!

    >Every innocent life lost is a tragedy.
    I agree.

  14. terence, Israel has tried to reach peace with these fanatics and Hamas refuses. Israel pulled completely out of Gaza several years ago in an effort to have peace.

What did Hamas do in response? Fire dozens / hundreds of rockets a day at them.

They’re not trying to wipe out the Palestinian people. They’re trying to wipe out Hamas. And it’s going to take an operation like this to do it.

Honestly, do you find no fault with Hamas in this entire scenario?

BTW, there’s more and more overwhelming evidence the CNN video is a total fraud.

The “reputable” journalist they got this video from is a total Hamas propagandist. go to worldnf.tv and look at the website.

  15. >terence, Israel has tried to reach peace with these fanatics and Hamas refuses. Israel pulled completely out of Gaza several years ago in an effort to have peace.

Oh, you mean around the time Hamas was democratically elected they were shunned and not allowed to import/export goods? I tell ya, you people sure have a way of trying to garner peace! How about not allowing all the FUEL in for the power plant? Why is Israel in control of Gaza’s fuel shipments? IMO, Israel or better yet a combination from the INTL community should inspect the shipments for weapons/drugs and let everything else through, period.

Israel doesn’t want to go back to pre-1967 borders, compromise on Jerusalem or stop building settlements on occupied/disputed land. (Especially building settlements on this land fans the flames. I know they’ve yanked “some” of these people off the land.) But, every time things are leading towards some sort of DEAL.. They start assassinating people, bombing, or building. (Whether justified or not, acting this way makes me believe Israel doesn’t TRULY want peace.) With that said, I have no idea if Hamas wants it either. But, we should agree who is suffering the most. Its the starving, orphaned children and widows of Gaza.

Now, I don’t blame the innocent Israeli citizens or even the army which is just doing what their told. And of course its not even remotely right to have rockets being fired at your cities. (I already explained my idea of how to stop this and it doesn’t include wholesale slaughter.)

    >Honestly, do you find no fault with Hamas in this entire scenario?

I already said Hamas needs to be publicly executed and/or assassinated. What else do I need to say? I don’t like killing of innocent people whether its by a terrorist group or state sponsored military.

In closing, I think the two state solution is the only way. But, Israel can’t have any control (besides inspecting cargo for weapons) over Gaza/Palestine. Otherwise its going to be the SOS. Personally, I think Israel is just stalling so they don’t have to make the tough decisions on how to end this problem.

  16. Ok…but back to the point at hand. The video looks like a weak fake to me.

    Agree or disagree?

  17. The hospital scene looks like it could be staged.. The other part appears genuine to me.

But, I don’t doubt the child was killed. I mean, with so many dead, you wouldn’t have to look far to make an authentic video.

For instance, one of our local news channels caught slack for faking something (I think it was a reunion.) That was legit and they were just late to the scene. So, this type of questionable journalism happens but it doesn’t negate the fact of how the child died and by whom.

And if one of these guys are members or have connections to Hamas.. . That still doesn’t invalidate their claim. (Unless of course its just propaganda and the kid is faking it.) But, like I said, you wouldn’t have to look far for carnage.

  18. Terence, read this very carefully. These are the words of a Palestinian-elected Hamas official:

“The enemies of Allah] do not know that the Palestinian people has developed its [methods] of death and death-seeking. For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry, at which women excel, and so do all the people living on this land. The elderly excel at this, and so do the mujahideen and the children. This is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly, and the mujahideen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine. It is as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: “We desire death like you desire life.”

I especially enjoy the “this is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly” line.

    I thought you would too.

  19. BigRed — I might add, the Israelis also don’t want to address Palestinians right to return either.

But, I didn’t really expect you to have anything to say about my January 10, 2009 at 8:25 am post..

Well then, I guess the enemies of Allah know NOW! Which makes that “top secret disclosure” pointless.

Btw, you weren’t trying to rationalize Israel’s responsibility for nearly 900 dead, including 275 children and another 4100 maimed, were ya?

  20. They don’t have to rationalize protecting themselves and trying to destroy Hamas.

It’s obvious Hamas uses civilians as shields, which they openly admit, but that obviously doesn’t sink into your head.

Hamas will never stop until they are destroyed. And you can’t use special ops to kill them one-by-one. You had to root them out and destroy them.

The Palestinian people stuck in the middle of this deserve out pity, and again, every innocent life lost is a tragedy, but Israel is right here.

Even Middle East leaders of other countries said Hamas was the one to blame. What more do you need?

  21. If you honestly think I’m going to blame Hamas for Israel massacring innocent people.. you’re more far off than I thought ya were! Stop blaming the victims. When you compare the number of Israeli deaths to the Palestinians, there really is no comparison.

    >Hamas will never stop until they are destroyed. And you can’t use special ops to kill them one-by-one. You had to root them out and destroy them.

Israel has no problem assassinating people when they feel like it.. But, for some odd reason, the only way to annihilate Hamas is to kill close to a thousand and wound four times that, eh?

    >Even Middle East leaders of other countries said Hamas was the one to blame. What more do you need?

Exactly which puppet governments are you talking about now? Do you really think their going to risk losing billions in welfare coming out the US taxpayers wallets? (Money I might add could really be used here at home instead of overseas.)

    >The Palestinian people stuck in the middle of this deserve out pity, and again, every innocent life lost is a tragedy, but Israel is right here.

Israel is right for pouncing on Hamas. But, they’re dead wrong in the way they went about it. And should be held accountable for war crimes. Btw, did you hear what the Cardinal said, “Conditions in Gaza increasingly resemble a big concentration camp.”

I don’t suppose FNC CNN MSNBC spent much if any time on that one!

  22. I see….so the leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia & even Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas blame Hamas, but they’re “puppet governments”. Why? Because they’re not anti-Israeli in this incident? That’s why you imply.

You’re obviously a brilliant military strategist & now exactly how to defeat Hamas, so maybe you volunteer to direct ops for the IDF.

Your theory is asinine. You win a war by hammering the opponent into submission. Israel has toyed with these scumbags long enough.

Hamas has brought this on themselves, and onto the Palestinian people who elected them. They were elected to run a government, instead they simply choise to keep attacking Israel.

The Cardinal is dead wrong on this one. And yes, I did hear aout his statement on FNC this weekend.

Israel just finish off Hamas once and for all or this will never end.

  23. >I see….so the leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia & even Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas blame Hamas, but they’re “puppet governments”. Why? Because they’re not anti-Israeli in this incident? That’s why you imply.

Because they’re nothing but a bunch of actors. If these people cared anything about the innocent lives that have been taken.. They’d be screaming bloody murder. But, then again, I guess it only makes sense you’d quote our friends and allies. What do you expect them to say?

    >Your theory is asinine. You win a war by hammering the opponent into submission. Israel has toyed with these scumbags long enough.

Yeah, nothing like hammering 6 year olds into the ground. Israel’s problem is: They have so much fire power and too many cowards. And are trying in vain to act like they won something this time.

    >The Cardinal is dead wrong on this one. And yes, I did hear aout his statement on FNC this weekend.

The Cardinal is dead right. I just hope he’s not one of those pedophile freaks!

  24. You’re hopeless and obviously have no clue about the real world.

For the final time….Hamas targets civilians. The Israelis don’t.

The Israelis drop pamphlets WARNING OF THEIR ATTACKS.

Hamas sends kids out to be human targets, which if this video is real, is exactly what happened here.

What they hell was the kid in the doing playing on the freaking roof? His “brother” claims they sent him up there to play because they thought it was safe…..when bombs are dropping.

What the hell kind of thinking is that? Way to watch after your kids.

  25. Oh yeah, Terance, here’s this stor, from your precious foreign media, about the EVIL Israelis and those poor Hamas victims:

Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

The IDF said that since terminal activity is coordinated with UNRWA and the Red Cross, Israel could do nothing to prevent such raids, Israel Radio reported.

Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the army had ceased all military activity in Gaza and once again established a “humanitarian corridor” to help facilitate the transfer of the supplies.

The Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings had been opened to allow in the aid trucks.

  26. BigRed, try to pay attention this time!

    >The Israelis drop pamphlets WARNING OF THEIR ATTACKS.

Where are the people supposed to go? Did FNC not tell you that the Israelis have a blockade at sea and walls around the joint?

    >Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

Oh, so you mean to tell me after starving the Palestinians for the last 18 months.. Israel finally decided to let some grub in? Btw, you never did tell me why the Israelis control Gaza’s fuel.

    >For the final time….Hamas targets civilians. The Israelis don’t.

Israel might not target civilians.. But they’ve killed far more than Hamas ever did.

  27. Oh, I forgot one.

    >Oh yeah, Terance, here’s this stor, from your precious foreign media, about the EVIL Israelis and those poor Hamas victims:

Just because I call the Israelis “out” on their bad behavior doesn’t mean I like Hamas, donkey!

All I’ve been talking about is the innocent victims. And last time I checked, Hamas doesn’t fall in that category.

  28. Then blame Hamas when they use their own kids, or the elderly for shields, or when they hide in schools & hospitals.

The cowards hide behind civilians, then use their propaganda to show how horrible the Israelis are when innocents get killed while trying to get to the terrorists.

And you fall for it, hook, line and sinker like a freaking rube. Great job out of you.

  29. BigApologist, I don’t need to blame Hamas. Ya know why? Because a terrorist organization is bad all the time. (Its not as if you give them credit for feeding people, eh?) Remember, Israel is suppose to be the good guys.. like us.

And contrary to what you’ve said.. The video hasn’t been proven to be a fake. Of course you and the other defenders never believe anything sinister anyway. Which I consider “home grown” propaganda.

  30. Btw, since you like to pull stuff off the Drudge Report.. How about following the link entitled, “Olmert: Rice embarrassed over UN resolution vote.”
    —-
WASHINGTON: In an unusually public rebuke, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel said Monday that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had been forced to abstain from a United Nations resolution on Gaza that she helped draft, after Olmert placed a phone call to President George W. Bush.

“I said, ‘Get me President Bush on the phone,’ ” Olmert said in a speech in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, according to The Associated Press. “They said he was in the middle of giving a speech in Philadelphia. I said I didn’t care: ‘I need to talk to him now,’ ” Olmert continued. “He got off the podium and spoke to me.”

Israel opposed the resolution, which called for a halt to the fighting in Gaza, because the government said it did not provide for Israel’s security. It passed 14 to 0, with the United States abstaining.

Olmert claimed that once he made his case to Bush, the president called Rice and told her to abstain. “She was left pretty embarrassed,” Olmert said, according to The AP.

The State Department disputed Olmert’s account. “Her recommendation was to abstain; that was her recommendation all along,” said an official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the delicate nature of the matter.

    —-
I don’t suppose the patriotic BO or Hannity will be covering this tonight? Oh wait. They aren’t allowed to criticize Israel for anything. And I’d be willing to bet KO or Maddow won’t cover it either. Its times like these when you have to stop pitting right vs. left and think whats best for OUR country.

  31. The story was covered by “Special Report”.

And Israel is the good guys. That doesn’t mean they never make mistakes or accidentally kill innocent civilians, but that’s what happens in wars.

The bottom line is, if Hamas wasn’t firing rockets, Israel wouldn’t have invaded.

It ain’t complicated. Everyone with a clear mind can see that.

And I never said the video has been proven fake. But it sure as hell looks fake to me and other clear thinking people.

But you automatically assume the worst about Israel and the U.S. Why is that?

  32. >The bottom line is, if Hamas wasn’t firing rockets, Israel wouldn’t have invaded.

Hamas will still be firing rockets after Israel runs home and tries to claim victory. Perhaps you haven’t been paying attention. There is no military solution between Hamas and Israel. Which makes all the innocent people killed even worse.

    >But you automatically assume the worst about Israel and the U.S. Why is that?

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because our government is full of crooks and perverts? (And lets not forget Olmert is stepping down due to corruption charges.) Maybe because Israel runs our country and media instead of us? Maybe because people like you defend both blindly?

Do you think one of the Israelis also called the judge presiding over Madoff for a little special treatment?

You do realize if it was a Muslim accused of this and had been giving to Muslim instead of Jewish charities.. The boys at FNC would be all over that!

Basically, I don’t like the double standards. Everyone should be treated equal regardless of race, religion or nation origin.

  33. From Cable News Confidential by Jeff Cohen

In our third week on the air, amid escalating Palestinian and Israeli attacks, Phil (Donahue) interviewed Shimon Peres, then Israel’s foreign minister in a coalition government with conservative prime minister Ariel Sharon. Phil noted that Peres had criticized a recent Israeli missile assault in Gaza City that had killed a Hamas leader and nine innocent children, wounding dozens–but Phil reacted loudly when Peres seemed to euphemize the attack:

Peres: Unfortunately, in every war, you have mistakes. The greatest mistake is war itself.

Donahue: That was an F-16. It was an apartment building… That is not a mistake–to fire a missile into an apartment building at midnight. What, this terrorist is the only guy sleeping in that building? It is not a mistake. It was a direct action that you knew would cause civilian deaths.

    >And now for a few more excerpts you might be able to weigh in on!

Eight days later, Phil interviewed former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak. (I was surprised no one had warned Barak away from Phil in the intervening days.) Phil asked Barak if the expansion of Israeli settlements on Palestinian land was a “territorial grab” undermining “the peace process.” He also posed a question rarely asked in the US media: whether Barak’s famous offer–rejected by Arafat at Camp David in 2000–had been all that “generous” if it divided the Palestinian state into “chunks, with Israeli settlements in between ..a balkanization” of their homeland.

At MSNBC and elsewhere, I met several network TV journalists with long experience in the Middle East who told me of fears about sending home news that cast Israel in a bad light. Correspondents learned that accuracy and even handedness meant less to network higher-ups than avoiding conflict with organized “Israel-right-or-wrong” lobbies.

  34. “Maybe because Israel runs our country and media instead of us?”

Thank you Terence. It only took you 16 responses to reveal your true nuttiness and anti-Semitic views.

    Thanks for playing.

    And Phil Donahue???? ROFL.

    You lose.

  35. I laid down the facts and you keep dodging. Israel has no problem bombing a building with civilians in it. Which is why you responded to nothing I said in the last two posts except playing the anti-Semitism card.

As I’ve said before, I have no problem with Israeli/Jewish citizens.. Just their corrupt government.

Btw, have you ever noticed the anti-Semitism flag always goes up when the defender has ran out of ammunition? Don’t fret. The US taxpayers will be sending more to the chosen ones. (While people are getting kicked out of their houses and jobless here.. The Israelis will be living high and dry and sportin’ the latest in military hardware.)

  36. Terence, for the last time HAMAS HIDES AMONG THE CIVILIAN POPULATION!!!!

They’re cowards. There’s no way to get them without collateral damage. If they fought like men and wouldn’t hide behind their kids, women and grandparents, civilians wouldn’t be dying needlessly.

For the final time, HAMAS OPENLY ADMITS THEY USE THEM AS HUMAN SHIELDS.

When you spout your ridiculous “Israel runs the media & our government” theories, you’re damn right the anti-Semitism charge is issued. Justifiably.

    Were they behind 9/11 too?

  37. >They’re cowards. There’s no way to get them without collateral damage. If they fought like men and wouldn’t hide behind their kids, women and grandparents, civilians wouldn’t be dying needlessly.

Stop rehashing! You know damn well they could pick these guys off with predators or special forces on the ground. They wanted to have a show of force.. And will end up embarrassed again along with creating hoards of new enemies next door.

    >When you spout your ridiculous “Israel runs the media & our government” theories, you’re damn right the anti-Semitism charge is issued. Justifiably. Were they behind 9/11 too?

Oh, so Olmert calling Bush and telling Ms. Rice to “abstain” isn’t running our government? What would you call it?

No, I think the only justifiable use of “anti-Semitism” is if someone hates Jews because of their religion. Personally, I have no problem with any religion. (Because who or what people choose to believe and pray to is their business.)

On the other hand, I have a huge problem with any kind of mixing religion with politics.

No, I don’t think Israel is behind 9/11.

  38. You two, get a room.

  39. My final remark on this issue.

If Israel were “running our government” we would have vetoed the UN resolution. Not abstained from it. Olmert is grandstanding.
