Filling in 10 pm…
The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes about MSNBC wanting to add a new show at 10pm…
With a higher-rated show at 10 p.m., Mr. Griffin predicts that MSNBC can become competitive with Fox among young viewers.
“It’s almost like we’re one personality away,” he said. Mr. Griffin said the network would find a host for the new program the way it developed Ms. Maddow. She substituted for Mr. Olbermann and appeared regularly on the air. A splashy hiring, like the signing of Deborah Norville in 2004 for a short-lived show, does not seem to be a priority. “I want it to be organic,” Mr. Griffin said.
In an e-mail message, Mr. Olbermann said he was working with Mr. Griffin to develop options for the 10 p.m. hour. He echoed Mr. Griffin’s comments about the need for a complete prime-time schedule. “Losing the 10 p.m. replay is a very small price to pay for a last piece to the puzzle,” Mr. Olbermann said.
Oh boy. That last paragraph is going to start another round of “Keith runs MSNBC” kibitzing…
Update: Could this at all be related to the guy who’s been seated next to Contessa Brewer at 2pm several times the past couple of weeks? I forget his name but he’s just a contributor and it’s been very odd seeing them paired together and I started wondering if he’s being groomed for something…

If they’re looking for a young liberal, how ’bout an African-American? Harold Ford Jr.

No charisma.

To me Spud that sounds like he will have fill-ins to test for 10pm. Might be wrong but would make sense.
Keith can be replayed at 11pm still so no huge deal. Wish they just bumped Abrams up there though originally.

The fact Olbermoron has this much power of a cable news network is indeed, very scary.

they need a 10pm, im sick of my dvr recording countdown at 8 10 1 and 4 its redick.

Mike – I agree about Abrams. His old show covered more than politics, which was refreshing.
If they go ahead with a new show at 10, they should think about something other than politics unless they would be willing to give a Conservative an hour. The content from Countdown bleeds too much into Maddow’s show and it’s becoming an either/or decision.

I agree BL,
Which is why Abrams would be great. Make it more Crime/General News heavy with politics.

Abrams tanked at 6pm, 9pm and then again at 9pm. What, is the fourth time a charm?
Seeing that I don’t watch KO at 8 or 10.. I would welcome a new face at 10pm.

After the very public throwing of Abrams under the bus and the friction between Olbermann and Abrams, there is no chance in hell that Abrams would now get an MSNBC show.
Besides MSNBC primetime is all left now. If Olbermann is offering “suggestions” to Griffin, you can bet your last dollar that the 10pm show will continue in that direction

I agree with Spud. It’ll be yet another “Republicans suck, Obama is Lord” program. Olbermann wouldn’t give up his hour of repeat brainwashing for anything else.

Alan Colmes is free… unless he is working on a weekend show that was rumoured. Alan’s America?
January 22, 2009 at 11:34 am
He’s still employed by FOX, I believe.
January 22, 2009 at 2:22 pm
And Harold Ford is no liberal. He’s head of the DLC, for crying out loud.
January 22, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Excellent point, smh. Absolutely no moderate Democrats allowed!!
January 22, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Mike & BigRed: Alan Colmes appeared on FNC just before 11pm PT from LA on inauguration night. He still does a nightly show on Fox News Radio.
Mike Papantonio, an Air America weekend host who sometimes appears on Neil Cavuto’s show and is a true kool-aid drinker, would be a good MSNBC 10pm pick.
January 22, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Harold Ford happens to be pro-life which I’m sure immediately disqualifies him from being an MSNBC host.
January 26, 2009 at 1:26 pm
They should bring back Abrams because he was unfairly tooken off because his show was matching or above Keith’s ratings
