President Obama decision to send 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan is a continuation of the Bush policy of occupying Afghanistan. Of course, I hope he is successful in winning or bring this war to an honorable end but I’m not sure it is possible. I find it surprising that those on the left are silent regarding this escalation. I thought they were by and large antiwar. If this becomes a quagmire will Obama maintain his political base? Will the press eventually turn on him because of the war? Will he fold if it becomes politically unpopular and abandon Afghanistan, leaving the Taliban in charge of a possible terrorist state?
I hope they are thinking ahead on this one!
PS: I think there is very little chance he can get NATO ground force combat help. Biden always said in the campaign that he could get NATO cooperation through his intense foreign policy skills. Well let’s see what support he gets now. I hope the press fact checks that promise. If he gets real (not token) combat support I’ll be the first to congratulate him.
L & J, isn’t it amazing that everything that Bush did was so horrible, yet we hear NOTHING when 0bama continues (or even escalates) these same policies. And it’s only been a month into his administration!
Obama’s position during the campaign was always that we should focus on Afghanistan. The Kucinich Left will eventually bitch about it, but his policy is consistent with what his voters were told. Hopefully he can do better than the Soviet Union did in that “pile of rocks”, as Charlie Wilson called it.
Laura Ingraham was great this morning, I love her Nancy Pelosi imitation. She was on Fire. I know she is radio but she also fills in for Bill O’Reilly on the Factor.
The Page Six cartoon is unbelievable. Maybe the cartoonist was too clever by half and didn’t see the forest for the trees, but NOBODY at the paper saw problems with it? Aside from the racial violence overtones, how is a women having her face ripped off fodder for political satire?
How could they possibly have thought that would be ok? Should there be some sort of automatic-alert system set up to flag any sort of lower-primate imagery for at least the next four years? Perhaps software could be written, since the people in charge are obviously too stupid to notice it themselves.
I realize it was probably unintended, since the bill was mostly written by Pelosi, but how many people actually know that?
I guess there’s a bright side to Congress not understanding the auto industry. GM told them they’re going to sell or eliminate Saturn; Chrysler is dropping the Aspen/Durango and PT Cruiser. Saturn has been sucking wind for years, long ago dropping their plastic-sided import fighters for rebadged Opels from Europe. Durango dropped off the radar a few years ago and Aspen was never on. The novelty of the PT ended about the time that EVERYBODY owned one – say 2003. Every model move announced today has been in the works for years.
that Post thing is unthinkable, and unimaginable. how can anyone in their right mind think that that was…. i mean how do they think that: “nah, there’s no possible way that this could possibly offend anyone. especially with a black man as president and widely thought to be at the head of the bill in reference.” i mean… WTF?! and their response is even worse. amazing… and it’s not like they publish in the mid-west… THEY PUBLISH IN NEW YORK!! ho-lee ****!!!! idiots… just… idiots!!!
