The Sky is Falling! The Sky is Falling…
CJR Daily’s Ryan Chittum takes aim at the Glenn Beck program for what could be described as a Chicken Little meets Armageddon moment…
The economic crisis has most of us worried about a lot of things. How will I retire? How will I pay the mortgage? Will I have enough ammo and MREs to outlast crazed “urban” hordes marauding the countryside?
I’m especially worried about the last one after seeing Glenn Beck’s show on Fox News raising apocalyptic free-for-all as a very real possibility. With ominous music and images of swarthy people burning American flags, refugees, rioters, and military on the move, it was the very definition of public-service reporting, if by “public service” you mean “losing your mind.”

What an unbelievably irresponsible program. Why not just come out and tell every American that disagrees with any government policy to enforce their POV with explosions?
March 12, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Did he mention what a hit this 5 pm show is. It beats every single prime time show on MSNBC and CNN. How coild that be?
March 12, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Ummmm, there’s a lot of stupid crazy people in the world?
March 12, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Don’t you just love liberals? The only way Beck is a hit is because stupid crazy people are watching.
Too much kool-aid in the brain.

This is an argument about quality, not quantity. But thats an argument that conservatives are not capable of having.

“Ummmm, there’s a lot of stupid crazy people in the world”
Growing up around Boston, I heard that around Harvard Square all the time. It,s the Kennedy school of “D” governemnt creedo . especially around the time when those guys got into Vietnam.
So much for that big tent.

Yea, Ideology has nothing to do with it. Oh really?
Insults don’t win debates. That’s all you have.
March 12, 2009 at 4:07 pm
For example Lurker. I’d make the argument that American Idol is an awful show. Or Id make the argument that Titanic is a mediocre movie.
L&J’s response would be: American Idol is America’s most watched show, and Titanic made the most money of all time. So how could that be?
Two different conversations

hnmmf….
Please don’t presume to speak for me. What nerve never mind what arrogance.
If you have a point make it for once with out an insults. Insults don’t win debates; Grow up,
Get it
March 12, 2009 at 7:53 pm
That’s pretty rich considering the number of insults that get hurled around her on a daily basis…

Beck is a fear mongerer, that’s all there is to it. Plus his show is just painful to watch.
It may be popular, but a lot of shows (think According to Jim) are popular but are pretty much inane dribble. Just looks like a fool.
March 12, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Oh geez, According to Jim. How is it possible people watch that?

Anyone notice how Liberty and Justice always plays the victim?

HA!

That’s ’cause we’re un-American and socialist and Communist and coming to get his gun. Well, he’s not gonna take it anymore!
March 13, 2009 at 7:45 am
Joe, at least you finally owned up to it.

Elmo
I enjoyed that one, everyone likes a little attention. So you want to start a chain of criticism on me, should be interesting, kind of like being a conservative target on one of your favorite shows or on Kos. I’m confident, self-made and secure, reflective, so I can take criticism. Make my day! Elmo, go ahead list a bunch of name calling words if you makes you feel better.
FYI, In fact, I don’t think of myself as a victim, I think of myself as one of the very fortunate and I thank God for that. I believe in the American Dream and have lived it, funny thing, the harder I worked (starting with 0) and the more people I helped during my career (endinb by managing a large group of business people) the luckier I got. What I do plead guilty to is what my 18 year old son says; I have a tendency to be a little preachy at times. I try my best not to be hypocritical but I’m not perfect. Far from it.
I don’t dislike liberals or any groups, what I love are liberty, justice, truth, capitalism, equality of opportunity, freedom and free will. The defense of and spreading of those virtues is what motivates my posts.
Very funny Joe, I don’t own a gun, I’ll have to go out to Wal-Mart today and look into that oversight. smile

Lock and load baby!
March 13, 2009 at 9:38 am
So now Glenn Beck is claiming the Alabama shooter acted out of frustration at POLITICAL CORRECTNESS??? When Bill O’Reilly is the voice of reason in the conversation, we’ve got a problem.

Glenn Beck is batsh*t insane. I just don’t think there’s any other way to put it.
March 13, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Glenn Beck needs to shut up before somebody gets shot.
March 13, 2009 at 8:46 pm
I can’t take Beck’s crying – it is too uncomfortable to watch.
That aside, from what I’ve seen he will start off with a legitimate premise but will fall off the cliff of rationality and imply that the stimulus package/Iran/Islamic terrorists/Mexican drug cartels/etc. are going to leave us in a state of anarchy.
I wonder what percentage of his total audience is made up of people who are watching for pure entertainment purposes.
March 13, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I wonder what percentage he’s instigating. He’s as bad as Mathews with the lack of brain-to-mouth filter, but in more dangerous territory. The thing that weirds me out is he seems like a really nice guy, but then he turns crazy.
