Shuster vs. Rove…
David Shuster has been taunting Karl Rove the past few days, both on Twitter and on his show 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue…
SHUSTER: Welcome back to 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE. Every night on this show, as we did earlier in this one, we feature a segment called Hypocrisy Watch. Our most frequent focus has been former Bush adviser Karl Rove. For example, Rove recently criticized the Obama administration for increasing the size of the federal debt, even though Rove and his Bush team colleagues turned record surpluses into record deficits.
Anyway, before each segment, I sent Karl a Twitter message, asking him to come on and defend himself. This weekend, I received the following Twitter direct response: “Re 1600. Wait until the book. You‘re in there. Signed Karl Rove.”
Rove is signed to FNC. That means he’s prohibited from appearing on MSNBC unless FNC allows it. But why would they? Either Shuster knows this and he’s just engaging in some public baiting he knows can’t happen, or, he doesn’t know – in which case someone needs to inform him why this can’t happen. Either way it’s a colossal waste of time.

Did you see this weasel turn into the biggest B when Joe called him out and he wants to go up against Darth Vader?

It’s a game. Shuster is trying to get Rove to defend himself on FNC so he can come back at him on MSNBC. It’s the same thing Olbermann did to great effect. Shoot for the big fish, get in the big pond.

Lou, he handled Joe professionally, which is more than I can say for Joe. Between the two, I actually prefer Scarborough, but he was out of line that morning.

I am on twitter, and saw the “tweets” Shuster has been sending Rove. Quite juvenile imho. He also calls him by the nickname that Bush had for him…”turdblossom”. I think he is trying to be Olbermann Jr, by making Rove his O”Reilly.

Two great minds, eh Kathi?

He’s been trying to be Olbermann Jr. for a while.
Joe, you’re dead wrong on the Scarborough confrontation. Shyster got rightfully smacked down in the greatest moment in MSNBC history.
Maybe when Shyster admits he was wrong and apologizes for repeatedly reporting Rove was about to be indicted, Karl will come on for both of Shyster’s viewers.

Come on Red, that crap about sleeping in was off limits. That show starts at 3 in the morning in New York and Shuster regularly works days. The way MSNBC stretches their anchors, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if David got some of those “see ya in the morning” calls at the last minute. You can holler about ideology all you want, but resorting to personal inside-baseball attacks is out of line, which is why Joe apologized.

Actually Joe….Morning Joe starts at 6 am in New York. Just sayin lol….You are right about the way MSNBC stretches their anchors. I remember when Joe went off on Shuster. Maybe a little over board on that particular one. But if you watched back when Shuster was on a lot…..you would see that Shuster often went on his own rants. So if he can dish it, he needs to be able to take it as well.

Joe, it starts at 3am where you are maybe, not in NYC.
Perhaps Scarborough shouldn’t have mentioned Shyster’s repeated absences, but given that it was THREE TIMES, that’s pretty pathetic.
The rest of what he said what right on and great television.

Doh! 3am, 6am, it’s all too am for me. Which means I rarely see the show, so you could be right about Shuster giving what he was taking. Why am I defending him anyway? He’s a (insert Red’s favorite word here).
March 19, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Duh, it’s obvious why he is doing it. To gain media attention for a good show but a show not doing the numbers.
For example, you Spud are covering it, Huffpo etc.. are covering it, so it is working…

LOL Joe!!! It took me forever to get used to going from pacific to central time. Prime time starts at 7pm here!! And took me forever to get used to the 10 :00 news, instead of 11 lol. Anyway, I do watch Morning Joe every morning. And Shuster had really been pushing it , especially that particular week. So I think Joe had just had enough. I agree with Red, it does make for some great television. Oh, and the word that comes to mind with regards to Shuster…smarmy.

I was thinking more….kind of rhymes with Doocey.

Guys, can you update me on the Scarborough/Shuster feud, or whatever? I kind of remember something a few months back, but it sounds like you’re speaking of something more recent here.
March 19, 2009 at 3:23 pm
It’s the old thing, Missy. Just memorable.
March 19, 2009 at 3:31 pm
joe, you literally took the words right out of my mouth.

No matter who is right, Schuster comes out on top with this – he is drawing attention to his show with this back and forth.
“1600″ could use all the help it can get.
