MSNBC Taps Yvette Miley as Executive Editor…
MSNBC’s release on Yvette Miley being hired as Executive Editor for MSNBC. Interesting Miami connection going on here. Both Miley and Shannon High were Miami based before they came to MSNBC. Did that come into play in the selection process?
YVETTE MILEY NAMED EXECUTIVE EDITOR, MSNBC
NEW YORK – April 15, 2009 – Yvette Miley has been named Executive Editor, MSNBC. As Executive Editor, Miley will assist the Managing Editor in overseeing the editorial content of MSNBC Dayside. Miley will report to Shannon High, Vice President and Managing Editor.
Miley is a 19-year veteran of NBC Universal and is currently the Vice President of News at WTVJ in Miami. While at WTVJ, she has overseen all local and national news coverage, including coverage of Hurricane Andrew, Hurricane Wilma, the foreclosure crisis and politics-across all platforms. Prior to her tenure in Miami, Miley was Vice President and News Director at WVTM in Birmingham, Ala. Miley has been the recipient over 10 Emmy, Murrow, Dupont and Peabody Awards. In 2007, she was named “Corporate Executive Of The Year” by the Miami Dade Chamber Of Commerce. She is a graduate of the University of Florida.
A little odd, the Executive Editor reports to the Managing Editor. Shouldn’t that be the other way around? Shouldn’t the Executive Editor be the overseer and the Managing Editor be the foot soldier? Isn’t that how it usually works? Like I said, odd.

[...] on the wall for High when they hired Miley to do what High was already doing. They worked out the announcement to make it look like High was still in overall control of Dayside by having Miley report to High. [...]
