BLUE CORNER!
And then there are these other world class dive sites. And if I tire of those (yeah, right), there are these sites.
My flights take me through both Guam and Yap (I’ll be on Yap for three days) so I won’t get the two confused…unlike some people.
Blogging resumes May 14th. I would be back sooner but I decided a three day layover on the beach at Waikiki was needed to recover from jet lag…
Jet lag is hard on me…
no, really…
honest…
See you in a little over three weeks. If I decide to come back that is…

This thread seems so lonely.
May 1, 2009 at 8:30 am
Let’s make it the WHAT’S HOT, WHAT’S NOT thread.
HOT: Arlen Specter turns Democrat. Cablers announce sea change in Senate. Two hours later, cablers announce he’s a self-centered oppurtunist who won’t vote with Dems.
HOT: VP Biden tells the truth on The Today Show. Administration says he meant to say what we told him to say, not what he really thinks.
NOT: Cablers laud Obama’s first 100 days. Country mentions that a hundred days into two wars and a depression isn’t even Chapter 1. We’re talking Prologue.
NOT: Beltway Boys cancelled. Country says, is that still on? CNN does not cancel Reliable Sources. Country says, is that still on?
May 1, 2009 at 10:29 am
Hot: I know it’s wrong, but I just can’t help myself.

I’m probably one of ten people that gives a rat about Frank Lorenzo anymore, but some might remember.
May 3, 2009 at 8:47 am
NOT: Huckabee replaces Gutfeld on RedEye. Painful.
May 3, 2009 at 9:03 am
E.D. Hill sighting?

Hellloooo.
May 4, 2009 at 9:20 pm
David Dreier, botox or facelift? You could show slides on that forehead.
May 5, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Ok, Joe. I’ll play.
NOT HOT: The continued attack on Miss California. NBC (shocker!) is the latest. God forbid someone gives an honest opinion when they’re asked to give one.
NOT HOT: The lack of coverage on the developing catastrophe in Pakistan. I know it’s been covered some, but not nearly enough. This thing could literally blow up big time & the media needds to do a better job of keeping up up to date.
NOT HOT: Swine flu coverage. Enough already.
HOT: Arlen Specter. His unprincipled switch isn’t hot, but the coverage was non-stop thru Sunday….and today he says he hopes Norm Coleman beats Franken. Hilarious. You asked for him Joe. You can have him.
May 5, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Hell freezes over. I agree with every point in Red’s post.
Miss California’s opinion is the same as the majority of voters in her state. Not exactly a fringe point of view.
Pakistan is a big problem. The media didn’t pay much attention when the Taliban were blowing up the ancient Buddha statues in Afghanistan. They’re not doing much better now.
The swine flu is the flu, period. No pandemic. The flu kills people every year.
Um, you can have Arlen back now. I always respected him as a moderate Republican. Now, not so much.
NOT HOT: Michelle Bachman talking about “orgies” and “blowing their wad”. What a girl.
May 5, 2009 at 5:53 pm
LOL. We agree. Call Ripley, even he won’t believe it.
May 5, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Thing is, the majority opposes gay marriage, but I don’t think they’re as hard against it as some other issues. The Left is gonna incite some major pushback with this compulsion to smear, and it will end up hurting them in other areas as well.
May 5, 2009 at 5:54 pm

(apparently, g@y m@rriage puts you in moderation limbo)
May 5, 2009 at 5:55 pm
And your honeymoon with Specter last, what, 5 days? And the marriage is already over. We don’t want him back.
Of all the things he’s said over the past few days, the most despicable was him more or less blaming the GOP for Jack Kemp’s death, saying he could’ve been cured if they’d funded cancer better.
That puts him right up there with John Edwards in the ultimate douchebaggery of saying anything to get elected.
May 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Yeah, Red, ‘strange new respect’ only applies when the other side gets screwed. Same with Liebermann.

Don’t clean your flat screen with windex, ammonia or alcohol. That and paper towels can etch the screen.
May 5, 2009 at 6:34 pm
I think Specter should retire. “I didn’t say I’m a loyal Democrat” and “Coleman should be seated” sound vaguely delusional for a guy running for a Democratic Senate seat. “The GOP killed Jack Kemp” is insane.
May 5, 2009 at 6:44 pm
It was kinda hard to figure what the Dems were getting out of this switch, initially, other than bragging rights (Hah). If he votes with them when it counts, why give away goodies that are coveted by others? I understand wanting to kick us when we’re down, but not when it costs you more than it does us.
May 5, 2009 at 7:52 pm
There’s going to be some blowback from other Dem senators, too. Specter says he’s “entitled” to seniority on key committees. Well, Dem senators who already hold those seats aren’t going to just move out the way.
Harry Reid made Specter a promise I’m not sure he can deliver.
And there’s no guarantee Specter wins anyway. He’ll be challenged on the left in the Dem primary, and if Tom Ridge runs, and beats Toomey in the Republican primary, he’ll be tough to beat too.
I’d rather have Ridge than Specter.
May 5, 2009 at 7:56 pm
They should all have primary challenges. They’ll never enact term limits, and seniority is another word for royalty.
May 5, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Obama’s gonna have to backpedal on clearing the decks for Specter. In spite of the fact I voted for him and am generally happy with his performance, this is a perfect example of the Republican’s (and Hillary’s) admonition that he wasn’t experienced enough. I’ll bet “the senior Senator from Pennsylvania” had a good laugh playing the new Democratic president.
May 6, 2009 at 9:54 am
Hillary has addressed the press twice this morning and both times, MSNBC broke away. CNN stayed with it for a while. Hey MSNBC, you’re courting the liberal crowd, right? News flash: We LIKE Hillary.
May 6, 2009 at 10:10 am
Now they say Specter’s losing his seniority. Tee Hee. But it’s worth it to stand up to those evil far-right Republicans, isn’t it?
May 6, 2009 at 10:17 am
And Specter’s seat on the Judiciary Committee will be filled by….. Jeff Sessions. A conservative. Specter’s flip hurts Obama more than it helps.
He already had Specter’s vote on anything of significance.
Now, getting a flaming lib appointed to the Supreme Court will be much harder.
May 6, 2009 at 10:28 am
Maybe I’m nuts, but it seems like a filibuster-proof majority is more a concept than an actual thing. The more you emphasize Dems are in total control, the more risk there is if things go poorly. Sure, they’ll continue to blame Reps and Bush til the end of time, but people won’t buy it for that long.
May 6, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Ah Laural, you’ve discovered the fatal flaw of absolute power. We have to get it really right, ’cause the alternative will ruin us. Hmmm, this winning thing could be a problem.
May 6, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Well I’d say the Dems are off to a flying start, Joe.
–They’ve already tripled the deficit
–Playing nice with foreign leaders has gotten us absolutely nothing, but nice propaganda pictures for Chavez
–Gas prices are going back up (and they’ve put a “moratorium” on offshore drilling)
–Obama’s promised webpage to document the spending of the stimulus money won’t be up until next year
–North Korea’s nuclear program is getting stronger
–Pakistan is on the verge of collapse
–Violence is ratcheting up in Iraq
– $330,000 photo-ops & stupid comments by the V.P. are scaring the crap out of New Yorkers
But at least our media is covering important aspects of this adminstration, like date night with Michelle, ordering a hamburger, and being “enchanted”.
May 6, 2009 at 12:54 pm
The verdict is still out on the foreign leaders and Pakistan. I am cautiously hopeful that Obama/Hillary’s approach is an improvement. They certainly got the media to pay attention to Pakistan today.

http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/2009/05/06/arlen-reid-lied/
Pretty well sums it up, in my horribly biased opinion.
May 6, 2009 at 4:27 pm
It’s not that simple, Laural. Specter spent the last few days disavowing the party he had just defected to. Reid can’t force Dems to grant favors to a guy who seems to have broken his promises first. Nobody lied to Specter, they just expected him to live up to his end of the bargain. The liar here seems to be senile old Arlen.
May 6, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Uh, the ‘lied’ part would be Specter’s opinion. Or at least his spin.
May 7, 2009 at 8:03 am
Dylan Ratigan started his new 9-11am est MSNBC gig this morning. HuffPo has David Gregory saying he’s going to do 11am Wednesdays. Looks like MSNBC is finally trying to solve its horrendous dayside problem. Hours and hours of Tamron Hall was not a good call.
