CNN’s primetime “fade”?
In a must read, The Politico’s Michael Calderone writes about CNN and primetime and seeks answers from Jonathan Klein…
Current and former CNN staffers, though, say there’s definite concern inside about how Cooper and Brown are faring against the competition.
Brown’s show has been billed as the antidote to Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor” — which continues to gain viewers post-Inauguration — and Olbermann. But her show’s lack of traction begs the question of whether there’s a way to bring in ratings without the ideologically slanted hosts that have pulled in partisan viewers on the left and right.
Holy Crap. This is the kind of stuff you just don’t see coming out of CNN; anonymous staffers leaking bad news. MSNBC? All the time. FNC? Occasionally. CNN? No. Do not underestimate the significance of these rumblings. They’re huge.

Duh. Campbell Brown’s been on one (or maybe two) maternity leaves since the inception of the program, so that must have SOMETHING to do with the show’s lack of traction.
But even if she does return, she’s probably not the type of personality who would develop a “cult” following, like her two competitors seem to have.
And re: 10 p.m. I wonder how Jay Leno’s new program will affect the ratings of Greta, AC and whatever is on MSNBC at 10 p.m. All of the networks should be congnizant of Leno when looking to make any programming changes.

CNN is suffering from the same fate as newspapers. They provide straight news, which most people get on their computers these days. As I’ve said here numerous times, cable news needs opinion shows in primetime. No bias, no bull, no ratings.

I do not watch Olbermann nor O’Reilly because they both are bombastic. I watch Brown’s show, but I wish that John King would be given the hosting position.
