I wonder if the old hags on The View will apologize to Glenn Beck after the fact he was TELLING THE TRUTH about the Amtrak incident. Maybe Barbara Walters should check her own facts before calling Glenn Beck a liar. Amtrak confirmed to B-Cast on Breitbart.TV that Glenn Beck was telling the truth!
Contessa Brewer is reading viewer comments about Obama’a speech. Do we really have to have an on-air comments section? “Obama is JFK, Obama is the anti-Christ.” Boring.
Smh3477, Glenn Beck is not my hero. And hnmnf, Let me know when David Shuster appears on TV, he should at least pretend to be unbiased. I’m still waiting for that Karl Rove indictment…
I’m not surprised there is no outrage in the MSM about a “Hate F@@@” list or RAPE posted on Playboy.com about Conserative Women. I guess if the list was about Liberal women there would be huge outrage all over the media. I guess Rape is acceptable and all in good fun when it’s applied to Conserative women…
Playboy took the article down… Politico “reported” on it (without actually reporting on it), and then apologized for trying to whitewash it.
Here is an article with the original Playboy article in it… should tell you everything you need to know. And it was particularly offensive, and the MSM would have eaten this up if it was anyone about anyone but right-wing women.
MSNBC’s news anchor Keith Olbermann recently called the National Journal columnist Stuart Taylor a ‘fraud’ for Taylor’s supposed opposition to the confirmation of Sonia Sontamayor to the Supreme Court.
Well, the article was juvenile, but the comments labeling it hate speech and incitement to rape are a little shrill, IMO. The satire seemed intended as kind of complimentary to women you otherwise completely disagree with. It was poorly done, but I don’t think it warrants much attention. Especially because it’s from the most irrelevant magazine in the universe.
The satire seemed intended as kind of complimentary to women
Really? You really think that? Really?
Did you READ what was written… or did you just look at the titles?
Complimentary… not even a little bit.
As for Playboy’s “relevance,” you may be right. When one is looking for a magazine that is supposedly non-political… but still HIGHLY liberal, and obnoxiously biased as such… there are a lot of other choices.
INB, if you don’t understand the appeal of a really hot girl that really pisses you off – which seemed to be the basis of the poorly written satire – I’m not going to work it out for you on ICN. It’s just a stupid article that doesn’t deserve any attention from the MSM, whether it was conservatives or liberals as the target.
Joe, I understand that much… and if that’s all the article was, it would be fine.
The fact that they go into such graphic details, and really insulting and degrading talk about… anatomy… is where the problem really exposes itself.
We won’t hear from NOW or any of those groups… they have bigger fish to fry… like that time Bill O’Reilly said Helen Thomas sounded like the Wicked Witch of the West. Remember, comparing an old woman’s screeching… highly inappropriate and completely news worthy. Degrading women ON THE RIGHT in overtly sexual and dehumanizing terms… eh, not a big deal.
If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.
Sean Hannity:
He honors the national day of prayer behind closed doors. Now, on his Middle East apology tour, the President calls the U.S. a “Muslim nation.”
Sean Hannity is truly one of the stupidest, deceitful individuals on the face of the Earth. People like him are truly dangerous to this country. Trying to stir up anti-Muslim sentiment by clearly twisting the president’s words is despicable. Maybe, he is not smart enough to realize what outright lies like this can do to his already unstable listeners and viewers.
President Obama:
We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation, or a Jewish nation, or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens, who are bound by ideals.
Sean Hannity:
The same president who insists the U.S. is not a Christian nation is now calling us a Muslim nation.
Does it bother you Sean or Joe, that Obama was factually inaccurate?
We are not “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world?”
Estimates of the American Muslim population are all over the map… but on average put the US somewhere around 30th in the list.
Assuming that there are 200 countries in the world (that’s more than there really are), that only makes us larger than 85% of the other countries. That’s a solid “B” in terms of grading… not the “A” or “A+” Professor Obama would have us believe.
So back to the original point… are you bothered by his factual incorrect-itude?
If the state of Israel disappeared today, the problems facing the Arab world tomorrow would not be removed one inch.
The failure of the President to get this important message across was disappointing.
Overall though, it was a solid speech – at least on paper. Not seeing it on television – and watching the reactions by the crowd – pretty much renders my conclusion meaningless. After all, it’s how the Arab world and Muslim communities [nice tough there Mr. President] respond that’s more important.
It’s great that the President reconizes the limits of American power in a complex world. I wish’d he understand the limits of the US government here in our economy as well.
It absolutely DOES matter whether it was Beck, or the hags, who were wrong about this matter. The hags attacked him, from what I’ve heard, in front of their huge kool-aid drinking audience, and he walked away with his reputation in tatters.
If a liberal was besmirched to that extent, the conservative would have to make a huge national apology, and probably be removed from his program. But not so in this case, of course!
No, I don’t care if Obama’s phrasing of the size of the American Muslim community was fuzzy. If he gets the peaceful Muslim world to take a dim view of the violent version, that’s good enough for me.
I also don’t give a flip about anything that happens on The View, but if Beck was being unfairly hammered on their show, he should have stood and fought. Weaseling out in person, then shouting about it later is chickencrap.
No, I don’t care if Obama’s phrasing of the size of the American Muslim community was fuzzy
Well, it was a bad argument by the President who missed an opportunity to point out that the reason Muslim Americans are a success in America is due, in part, to the pluralism and religious tolerance we have here. And that their success is showing other Americans the richness and greatness of Islam.
If he wanted – as he apparently tried to do – to show that the US isn’t at war with Islam because of the history and accomplishment of American Muslims, he did a poor job.
Before moving on to a new subject (namely yours), why not address Hannity’s outright lies and distortions. It’s funny that none of the cons in this thread have addressed them.

No, I don’t care if Obama’s phrasing of the size of the American Muslim community was fuzzy. If he gets the peaceful Muslim world to take a dim view of the violent version, that’s good enough for me.
Weak. Really really weak.
He was wrong… just like George W Bush was occasionally wrong. You give him a pass, because the left is too afraid to criticize Obama. You won’t hear about this on the news, you won’t get jokes from the late night guys, and you won’t see SNL or The Daily Show poking fun at Obama’s “fuzzy math.” They’ll just ignore it… pretend it didn’t happen, or “change the truth” so it fit’s Obama’s logic. It’s 1984 in 2009! Obama says it, so it must be true!
For God sakes people… GROW A PAIR!
He was wrong. He will be portrayed as LYING to the Muslim population… and how exactly will that help America?
But really, if you think his pretty words will stop those people from hating us… either you’re not paying attention, or you’re willfully ignorant.
Sean… I deflected? Interesting… you jumped into a conversation I was having about Playboy… a topic which shows the hypocrisy of the media and groups like “NOW.” Interesting, you didn’t comment on that… you started up a new conversation… looks like a deflection to me.
But since you asked… here’s my response about Hannity:
Who cares? Hannity is allowed to give his opinion, you or I or anyone else is allowed to give theirs. I didn’t originally comment on your “argument,” because it’s just your opinion… just as it’s Hannity’s opinion. It is NOT Obama’s opinion that we are a leading Muslim nation… that is not an opinion, that is a tangible fact… but it’s wrong… and the math doesn’t support it.
IMO, Hannity was clearly NOT trying to stir up “anti-Muslim” anything… rather, anti-Obama feelings, highlighting that he’d (Obama) would rather recognize and highlight a small portion of the United States population, rather than the majority. Apparently there are a group of people (Muslims) he’d rather pander to, even though they are a small group… and that is seen as disrespectful to many millions more whom he has ignored. He’d rather LIE and say the US is something it’s not, in an effort to appease radical Muslim groups… and THAT is dangerous for America… not the opinion of some television personality!
We are not a Muslim nation… we are a nation WITH Muslims, Christians, Jews, Atheists, and everybody else. We are a nation FOUNDED on Judeo-Christian principals… with tolerance and acceptance for all. However, we are NOT one of the leading Muslim nations… and it’s time for you to say those terrifying words, “Obama was wrong.” Let’s see if you can man up, and admit that!
Regarding the Playboy article, you’re totally missing the point… It talked about conservative women they’d like to hate-f&*%. That’s basically saying they’d like to rape them.
It’s despicable.
Also, Obama’s mideast a$$kissing tour will not sway the radical Muslins one iota. They will view it as weakness and it will embolden them. Bin Laden called us a “paper tiger” for a reason.. because during the Clinton administration, we were. He wrongly believed Buish would be the same way.
Apologizing to nutjobs who have been terrorizing us since 1979 is very un-Presidential.
His flowery speech today was full of rhetoric, and as usual, completely devoid of any actual ideas or plans.
If he wanted – as he apparently tried to do – to show that the US isn’t at war with Islam because of the history and accomplishment of American Muslims, he did a poor job.
I withdraw my observation.
Now that I read the full quote and its context, I don’t know what the heck the President was saying.
“We in the West need to learn more about Islam and the US has a large number of Muslims?”
Steve , I agree with your earlier assessment that Obama fumbled whatever point he was trying to make about American Muslims. IMO he’s about as bad at off-cuff-speaking as Joe Biden. I fully understand the teleprompter thing: I like him and think he’s smart, but he routinely gets himself tied in circles when answering a question. It’s kind of ironic. We replaced a bonehead who blurted out the first simple thing that popped in his head with a nerd who won’t stop thinking long enough to form a coherent statement.
Red, I disagree with your assessment of the stupid, juvenile, poorly written Playboy satire. Wanting to have sex with someone whose politics you disagree with is not the same as wanting to do it against her will. You DO know that Democrats marry Rebublicans, right?
The West and Muslims could use a lot more education about each other. The most important thing we need to accomplish is to get the Muslim community to shut down the crazies.
Italics, bold, underline, and other HTML codes can be inputted into the comment window using the “left/right carrots,” (the one’s above the period and comma).
For more info on how to do that, check out HTML instructions online.
I don’t believe it’s a non sequitor as much as two independent equally true statements. The US has a lot of Muslims AND we could stand to know a little more about Islam.
Arthur… are you upset/concerned/interested in the fact that Obama needed to LIE (or at the very least, was highly misinformed) when he tried to make his point?
It’s amazing to me the people who scream “LIE” every time someone they disagree with makes a statement that they disagree with, can’t point to something that is ACTUALLY and FACTUALLY incorrect if it’s from someone “on their team.”
In addition to stating that we need to learn about Islam, perhaps he should have taken the opportunity to tell his audience that they need to learn about us, as well.
The BWs are officially Sick & Tired of hearing that we need to learn about them, but never that they need to learn about us. Some people, including our President, need to remember that we were attacked in the name of Islam (yes, a hardline version), not vice versa.
We would also feel a lot better about being hectored to learn more about them if they’d start voicing some outrage when atrocities are committed in the name of their religion.
Hell freezes over. I agree with every statement in BW’s post, especially the last paragraph. I think Obama did a good job today, but I would like to see the Muslim world be encouraged to respect us. And they need to do a lot more to condemn terrorism.
I have to amend my last comment. I just saw a part of the speech where Obama talks about mutual respect and says that both sides have to move away from stereotypes about each other. I hadn’t heard that section before.
Joe, the Playboy article wasn’t about wanting to have sex with conservative women. It was wanting to HATEF&@K them.
Big difference.
Charles Krauthammer perfectly summed up Obama’s diatribe today on Special Report, and especially nailed him on making a horrendous moral equivalence between how Muslims treat women (stoning, raping, marrying at the age of 8) and how women in American are still trying to achieve equality.
Hotair has the video. The women’s lacrosse team line at the end is priceless!
Red, your comprehension of “hot hate sex” and of what Obama accomplished today could both use a little work. I know, I know…you have another come-back that sees both completely differently. Have at it.
If it was perfectly acceptable, why was it pulled from Playboy. I think your comprehension of hot sex….which I’m all in favor of…. and speech that sounds close to endorsing rape could use a little work.
As for what Obama “accomplished’ today, let’s see:
… he compared the murders of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust to the difficult conditions the Palestinians are LIVING with
…. he accusing the United States of being un-American in reaction to 9/11
… he compared the extreme oppression of Muslim women to the supposed unequality in current American life for women
…he apologized to the Iranians for something we did 56 years ago, while excusing the terrorism they’ve funded & enacted toward the U.S. for the past 30 years
Quite a list of accomplishments.
This speech will not change things in the Middle East one bit. At least not in a positive way.
To the original post about the Playboy article, Zone claimed the “MSM” would have gone ballistic if the targets had been liberals. A., It’s one of those “if the tables were turned, things would be different” arguments that are impossible to prove. B., it’s the kind of low brow prurient crap Maxim publishes all the time (so I’m told hehe). No one would have noticed.

SMH2477, Who don’t YOU address Olbermann’s outright lies and distortions. It’s funny that none of the libss in this thread have addressed them.

The US has a lot of Muslims AND we could stand to know a little more about Islam.
Yes, but he was connecting the two points.
Anyway, as I said, it’s not a big deal and Hannity is, as usual, taking it way out of context for his own purposes.
These talk show hosts can bloviate about the most innocuous comments. It’s just absurd.
June 4, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Arthur… are you upset/concerned/interested in the fact that Obama needed to LIE (or at the very least, was highly misinformed) when he tried to make his point?
It’s amazing to me the people who scream “LIE” every time someone they disagree with makes a statement that they disagree with, can’t point to something that is ACTUALLY and FACTUALLY incorrect if it’s from someone “on their team.”
Quit spinning… tell the truth.

Quit spinning…tell the truth.
Ah you’re no fun.

Hey, I got the HTML thing! No small fete for this PC illiterate. Thanks INB.

Speak up Laural.
June 4, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Had an HTML mishap. My shame is great. I did figure out how to leave a blank message, however, and that is so often the best response.

June 4, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Hell freezes over. I agree with every statement in BW’s post, especially the last paragraph. I think Obama did a good job today, but I would like to see the Muslim world be encouraged to respect us. And they need to do a lot more to condemn terrorism.
June 4, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Whoa. We are too stunned to come up with something clever!
June 4, 2009 at 4:07 pm
I have to amend my last comment. I just saw a part of the speech where Obama talks about mutual respect and says that both sides have to move away from stereotypes about each other. I hadn’t heard that section before.
June 4, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Ahhhh! You just had to go and ruin it, didn’t you?
June 4, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Joe, the Playboy article wasn’t about wanting to have sex with conservative women. It was wanting to HATEF&@K them.
Big difference.
Charles Krauthammer perfectly summed up Obama’s diatribe today on Special Report, and especially nailed him on making a horrendous moral equivalence between how Muslims treat women (stoning, raping, marrying at the age of 8) and how women in American are still trying to achieve equality.
Hotair has the video. The women’s lacrosse team line at the end is priceless!
June 4, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Age of eight. Not sure what’s up with the icon.
June 4, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Red, your comprehension of “hot hate sex” and of what Obama accomplished today could both use a little work. I know, I know…you have another come-back that sees both completely differently. Have at it.
June 4, 2009 at 7:03 pm
June 4, 2009 at 7:06 pm
That’s a pretty myopic view of the speech.
Although I don’t agree the Playboy thing went as far as you do, it was unbelievably tasteless and stupid. Playboy was right to pull it.
Speaking of: Did you know there was a Playboy.com? And people look at it? In 2009?

I let my subscription lapse about 6 years ago.

Did you move onto something a little more hard core?

Did you move onto something a little more hard core?
Terrance, is that comment really necessary?
June 5, 2009 at 5:00 am
Chipsohio – Yeah, I thought it was right on target.. and quite funny. However, I figured the guy I addressed would respond, not someone else!
June 5, 2009 at 7:56 am
No, the boss has a strict no porn rule at the BR Household. Dammit.
June 5, 2009 at 8:04 am
Hey Red, is Playboy qualifies as porn, you’ve got a strict boss. Oh wait…so do I!
June 5, 2009 at 8:14 am
Fortunately for me…boss 2.0 is MUCH, MUCH better than boss 1.0. If you catch my drift.
Actually my “boss” doesn’t have any issue with my subscription. She gave it (subscription) to me for my bday 2 years ago.

You gotta admire Laural’s restraint in staying out of this thread. I can just picture her staring at the screen and saying SHUT UP!
