FNC’s Priorities…

Since I called out CNN earlier for blowing the Coleman coverage, I have to note that Steve Krakauer tweets that FNC opted to stay with Glenn Beck instead of covering the Franken presser (I didn’t see it. I was at the gym). Coleman’s speech was important but Franken’s wasn’t? Is that it? Bad call…

CNN & MSNBC taking Sen. Franken newser live, while FNC sticks with @GlennBeck. Wonder what O’Reilly/Hannity have to say tonight

    Heh. Even I may watch O’Reilly to see if his head explodes tonight. Should be pretty awesome. :)

  2. He’ll just trash the Minnesota Supreme Court is all. Maybe he’ll sick Jesse Watters on them…?

  3. joeremi Says:

    Ridiculous. How can you take Coleman and not Franken? Earth to Fox, this was kind of a big story.

  4. smh3477 Says:

    That’s probably more of a possiblity than we all realize.

  5. imnotblue Says:

    I can’t say 100%… but I was pretty sure I saw the presser on FNC. Although, it might have been later with Brett Bair… but I know I saw Franken (looking smug as ever) on FOX.

  6. joeremi Says:

    …but I know I saw Franken (looking smug as ever)…

    About as smug as Coleman looked when he advised Franken to concede the race 15 min. after the initial results were announced. I’m curious what Nate Silver’s original prediction was. He said Franken would win long before he took the lead.

  7. smh3477 Says:

    It is a joy to see the wingnuttiest among us go into a tizzy over Franken’s legitimate (narrow, but legit) victory over Coleman.

    It really is too bad I will not be near a television for a while.

    I dunno… I think Franken still looks more smug, although Coleman’s botched “you should drop out now,” speech would have been a disaster even if he had won! Franken is, and has always been smug… a person who walks around with the absolute certainty that he is 100%… and anyone who disagrees with him isn’t just wrong, but an idiot as well.

    But really… it is what it is. I think the Democrats realized a while ago that his running was going to be bad news (read some of the things his primary opponents said), and that’s why there was only limited fighting for him once the re-counts began. They know he’s going to open his mouth and say something that makes the blue blogs cheer… and the rest of the country cringe. I really don’t believe he’s going to be a net positive for the Democrats… but we shall see.

    You’re in a tizzy? I’m sorry… perhaps you should take a nap.

    It really is an embarassment that a angry, unstable clown like Al Franken has been elected to the Senate.

    The man has no business making public policy; he neither has the temperament nor the judgment to wield such power.

    “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried” goes the saying (roughly). Electing people like Mr. Franken weakens that argument just a bit.

  10. joeremi Says:

    INB, I might have agreed with you 6 months ago. Al Franken was an incredibly abrasive cable news guest and Rush/BOR foil, but his behavior during the recount – and his approach today – are not the Al Franken I knew. We may be surprised.

  11. stevemg Says:

    So, you think 20-25 years of adult behavior has changed over six months? All of the fights and shouting matches he’s been involved in over the past decade mean nothing?

    It really puzzles me listening to good people on the liberal/left who (mostly) correctly condemn the outrageous statements by the Limbaughs and Becks and O’Reillys but overlook or excuse the ugly behavior of people on their side.

    As I’ve said before (yeah, my self-righteous act is appearing), if we want to restore some basic level of comity again in our public discourse we need to fix the problems on our sides before we starting going after the other side.

    Copies of this speech are available by writing to Merkle Press.

    [whatever happened to Merkle Press anyway?]

    Note: Not that I’m accusing you of that Joe. That’s just a general statement not directed at anyone in particular.

    I know, I know, I’m sounding holier-than-thou again.

  13. joeremi Says:

    Steve, I’m not defending Franken’s past silliness, which is why I made a point of describing it. But yes, people DO change, and becoming a Senator may have a profound effect on him. I’m mostly drawing my hope from his unusually magnanimous handling of the recount. It just isn’t what you expect out of him.

    Don’t get me wrong, he’ll still be smug and 100% certain he’s right, a trait I’m quite proud to display myself. :) But he may not be shouting IDIOT at the top of his lungs anymore.

    “I think the Democrats realized a while ago that his running was going to be bad news (read some of the things his primary opponents said)..”

    That has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Regardless of whether we are talking about Al Franken or anyone else who has a primary opponent, the POINT of a primary is to take down whomever you are running against. Did you expect his primary opponents to heap praise on him? How do you suppose one can win a primary when all your doing is praising your opponent?

    “They know he’s going to open his mouth and say something that makes the blue blogs cheer… and the rest of the country cringe.”

    And there is another Republican who thinks they and ONLY they know the pulse of amurrekuh. Puh-leaze. If you people knew how America felt and what it wanted, would you have had your a s s kicked two elections in a row?

    You accusing anyone else of being smug is laughable.

    Do me a favor, never stop posting.

  15. stevemg Says:

    If you people knew how America felt and what it wanted, would you have had your a s s kicked two elections in a row?

    I’d suggest that an anti-Republican anti-Bush vote – which I think is largely what happened in the last two elections – is far different than a pro-Democrat vote.

    The electorate is in a particularly fickle mood, it seems to me. And two years from now when the bill for all of these measures is due, who really knows how they’ll react?

    Shorter me: we’re still a roughly 50/50 country with the past two elections skewed by a war and a financial meltdown that won’t play much of a role, if any, in future elections.

    It’s the Democrats game to lose, admittedly; but they’ve shown an ability to do just that.

  16. joeremi Says:

    Oh my Lord aint that the truth. What’s more depressing than a Democrat losing an election? Winning one.

  17. bigred08 Says:

    Well, your Dem leaders have no excuses now. The Blame Bush Era is over. The country’s troubles are wholly in Democrat hands.

    Woe for us.

    Please. Wingnuts are on the right. MOONBATS are on the left. Get it right – calling a liberal a wingnut is like calling a black person a honky.

    “We may be surprised.”

    I hope for the sake of the Congress and the Country, we will be… but I’m not holding my breath.

    I’m not sure where Franken would be more abrasive… while his party is in power, or while not. While in power, he can pretty much say or do whatever he wants… out of power, he might have to play nice, but figure he’s got nothing to lose.

    But for the Democrats, I see him as more of a threat… he’s the type of person who will turn on his “own” if he sees fit. For example, I don’t think he’d have any problem calling out other members of his own party who don’t vote with him, or are too moderate for his liking. That could prove very media friendly (they love internal conflicts), but damaging for the Democrats.

    “That has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.”

    Really? You should read more. The primary attacks on him, were essentially the same attacks the Republicans made on him, “he doesn’t have the temperament,” “he’ll hurt the party,” “he’s not the right ‘kind’ of person for the Senate,” etc. That’s not typical primary discourse… that’s “We don’t want him associated with us,” kind of talk.

    “If you people knew how America felt and what it wanted, would you have had your a s s kicked two elections in a row?”

    Ugh… Read a poll of Pete’s sake. Two elections (after how many losses), and the kid thinks he knows it all. HA!

    Just make sure I get it:

    Wingnuts = Right
    Moonbats = Left
    Wingdings = Font
    Batman = Comic
    Moonwalk = Jackson
    Walnuts = Walnuts

  24. laural1 Says:

    Walnuts = Paulie :)

  25. joeremi Says:

    Leave it to Laural. This is how I picture it. She waits…watching…reading…judging our lameness. Then, the moment. This requires an especially oblique and obscure reference aaaaand BAM. Then she scurries back into the shadows again…watching…waiting…

  26. laural1 Says:

    BAM = Emeril
    Can’t,,, stop…

  27. imnotblue Says:

    Joe… are you calling me lame?

    I hate agreeing.

  28. laural1 Says:

    And Paulie Walnuts is obscure. I feel so old,,, again.

    I prefer Big Pu$$y.

  30. joeremi Says:

    Actually, it’s my internal obscurity at work. Never seen Sopranos, didn’t register Paulie Walnuts, thought you were talking about Pauly Shore! Oy.

  31. laural1 Says:

    “Internal obscurity.” Must save that for future appearances.

    It’s 11:03, Central, and all 4 cable news networks (both CNNs) are running Michael Jackson stories……. again.

    Apocalypse Now Redux is on one of the Cinemax channels. I’ll leave that on for the next 3 1/2 hours. I bet when it’s over, Michael Jackson will STILL be on all the damn news channels.

  34. joeremi Says:

    I’m discovering another FNC priority now that Dylan Ratigan, Carlos Watson, Nancy Snyderman and that damn white bar have driven me to Fox…lip gloss! That’s one shiny network. Especially Courtney Friel, who also seems to be dipping into John Boehner’s bronzer. :)

  35. savefarris Says:

    Franken has never held a job even remotely similar to this, so we really don’t know what we’re in for. Kinda like how everyone who voted for Obama back in November *KNEW* that he would end torture and domestic surveillance, wouldn’t tax health care benefits, run a more open and honest administration, and make gay rights a top priority.

    IT CAME FROM THE 60S, THE SEEDS OF CAP & TRADE.

    The New Left we call them Progressives Today the movement was born in the 60s and 70s it included the failure of the school system to teach children an intentional movement. I highly recommend everyone read “The Return of The Primitive” previously titled the New Left, the Anti Industrialist. The Green Movement wants to drag us all kicking and screaming back into the Dark Ages.

    http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-left-seeds-of-cap-trade.html

    Robert Reich stated that Unemployment is actually at 14% because some people have stopped looking for work so they are off the unemployment rolls. 9.5% the highest unemployment in 26 years seems to me the REAL NEWS, our Industrial Base is under attack. Real people need real jobs. So far the Stimulus has protected Government jobs as in bureaucrats jobs. That isn’t how the Stimulus was SOLD to us.
