Did y’all see Sgt. Crowley’s press conference yesterday? What a performance. My favorite part was when another reporter tried to move him along. He was like, excuse me, I’m still talking to this guy, I’ll get to you when I’m ready. Awesome. Crowley in ’16, I’m in.

heh. From Washington Monthly’s Political Animal blog:

A new Research 2000 poll conducted for Daily Kos asked respondents a rather straightforward question: “Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?” Since the president was born in the U.S., ideally, the results would be around 100%.

They weren’t. There was, not surprisingly, a significant partisan gap. Only 4% of Democrats are confused about the president’s place of birth. The number is slightly higher among independents, 8% of whom got it wrong. Among Republicans, though, 28% — more than one in four — believe President Obama was not born in the United States.

For a crazy, demonstrably false, racist idea, these are discouraging numbers.

But I was especially surprised by the regional breakdowns. In the Northeast, West, and Midwest, the overwhelming majorities realize the president is a native-born American. But notice the South — only 47% got it right and 30% are unsure.

Outside the South, this madness is gaining very little traction, and remains a fringe conspiracy theory. Within the South, it’s practically mainstream.

I’m curious about the four percent of democrats. I wonder how many people still are confused about whether or not Hawaii is part of the US.

Exactly what I was thinking. The fact that it’s an exotic group of islands with an ethnic identity I think confuses people, especially, as they say, “low information voters”. I’m guessing they confuse it with Puerto Rico’s status.

Stewardesses used to stump people on transpacific flights asking them if they’d ever seen ‘hawaiian currency’. Heh.

  5. missy5537 Says:

Joe, I heard the officer basically tell that reporter to let him finish his response.

There are so many people on TV who will not let anyone finish a sentence. And that’s too bad, because people typically need the entire sentence to make their point.

And Art, being that I’m a non-PC conservative, I would use the term “stewardess”. But YOU? I believe the PC term is “flight attendant”. I’m reporting you to the word police!

  6. unclearthur Says:

Back in the days to which I refer, there WERE no ‘stewards’. It was pretty much a gendered job.

  7. joeremi Says:

Good catch Missy! The last time I heard the term “stewardess” was in the title of a movie I accidentally rented 12 times. Perhaps I’ve said too much.

    Perhaps I’ve said too much.

    Perhaps?

  9. missy5537 Says:

Really Joe. I’m telling your wife!

“I’m curious about the four percent of democrats.”

I would imagine that’s corresponds with the 4% of Fox viewers who are Dems.

And I love how my region, the South, is once again the stupidest region of the country. Some things never change. I gotta get out of this place.

  11. missy5537 Says:

Sean, I am outraged at your comment (hope that makes your day)!

  12. Heh. It did Missy. Thank you. :)

Nice to see Obama mouthpiece Robert Gibbs jab the media for its over-the-top coverage of the “Beer Summit”. He even slammed MSDNC for their ridiculous countdown clock.

  14. joeremi Says:

No Rachel Maddow tonight. What the hell?

  15. chipsohio Says:

Joe…maybe RM is watching television. ;)

  16. bigred08 Says:

    She wouldn’t dare.

  17. joeremi Says:

Just remembered. She’s taping Bill Maher. I predict Buddy Holly glasses.

  18. joeremi Says:

Duh, Bill Maher’s live. I know, it’s Friday night, nobody’s reading this and nobody cares. Nevertheless, I stand self-corrected.

  19. bigred08 Says:

I self-corrected myself yesterday while no one was around. It was fun.

  20. laural1 Says:

    Were you watching ‘stewardess’?

  21. bigred08 Says:

    :)

Damn, I knew Laural was gonna catch that.

  23. Spending a few days in Chicago with beautiful Lake Michigan just a few feet beyond my daughter’s balcony. This city is jam-packed with people living atop other people and really few places to park a car.

A block away is a Chicago park with a nice beach. What I found odd is that if you go into the water the lifeguard is immediately in his boat and never more than six feet away, and he calls you out if you go farther than hip deep. I told the kid to go away because that’s just silly and he kicked me out of the park. “Chicago is nothing like home, dad”, my daughter tells me. “Between city laws and condo rules it’s really quite the nanny mentality.”

I can now see why our president from Chicago doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with one-size-fits-all federal rules or federal control of private organisations. I can also see why he doesn’t have a problem with Chicago-like inside deals favouring one group over another.
