Thrust and Parry?
Mediaite’s Colby Hall appears to catch FNC pundit Bernard Goldberg changing his tune a bit regarding opinion jourmalism…
So to recap: Two weeks ago, Bernie Goldberg made news by claiming that Fox News hosts should stop claiming to be journalists. Then in response to similar criticisms made by the White House, Goldberg claims that the alleged bias is due to the fact that the newsroom now features women, African-Americans, Asians, and Hispanics who have all come in with a liberal bent, which didn’t exist when newsrooms were completely made up of white men. Got it.

Colby Hall’s analysis is bogus. That was not the “thrust” of the White House’s claims against FOX… not by a long shot. The piece was written to attack Goldberg, and imply he’s a racist. Hall misses the point of Goldberg’s statement completely (and predictably)… just paving the way for more blather from the haters.

I’ve never heard Goldberg claim there wasn’t bias before the introduction of more diversity, i.e., women, racial minorities, into newsrooms.

He may have said that the push for diversity has only served to bring more liberals into the newsroom. Especially with more women in charge, you have what Rush calls the ‘chickification’ of the news. The softer, more ‘interest-oriented’ stories that often have more of a left-angle.

Hey Colby,
Made you should read Bernie’s book, “Bias” where he clearly points out that liberal bias in journalism has existed for a long time, including when the newsrooms were full of “white men”.
But hey, doing that would require research and wouldn’t allow you to play the race card.
So instead, we get this nonsense.

…the ‘chickification’ of the news.
Swell guy. You conservative ‘chicks’ don’t actually listen to that gasbag, do you?

It’s not a put-down on women. If you actually thought about what the ‘gasbag’ said you just might agree with him.

No, Al, it isn’t. If anything, it’s a put-down on liberalism. Which is the point.

Smart chickie.

How is “the chickification of the news, bringing in a softer, more left-leaning POV” not qualify as a put-down of women coming from Rush. The obvious implication is that woman are weak and more liberal, which certainly qualifies as a negative for Dittohead. And the term ‘chickification’ proves his disdain.
I do agree him…I just happen to like it. More woman in power, and a softer focus in the news sometimes, are fine with me.

Which proves the point that it’s not about ‘women’, so much as it is about ‘liberalism’. Which he, and others, are opposed to. But, keep trying to make it about sexism, cause it works so well.

Oh, and to pick up another point. Joe likes it because it reflects his particular point-of-view. But don’t dare label that as ”bias”, because you’re just a right-wing wacko if you do so.

I specifically said I approve of more women in power, and the sometimes softer focus they can bring to the news. I didn’t say anything about ‘liberal’. As anybody reading this blog can see, there’s plenty of conservative women in this world, and I support their place in the news media, too.
Also, I think I’ve been honest about knowing there’s some liberal bias in the media. My contention has always been with the righties who believe it’s everywhere, and that’s there’s no noticeable conservative bias.

It would be interesting to be able to go back in time and see a Weekdays With Bernie segment after Walter Cronkite said that Vietnam would end up in a stalemate and the way out was to negotiate.

Because Mr. Cronkite’s 1968 “Mired In Stalemate” broadcast included the “Commentary” heading, I assume Mr. Goldberg would have no problem with it.
