The “created or saved jobs” mantra is back. It’s a stupid doublespeak phrase that doesn’t say anything. When I go to work, I can tell if it’s a job I still have, or a new one I just got.
Anybody know what’s up with O’REILLY and BECK ??? Beck was on O’Reilly’s show Thursday night and said THEY (as in both of them) have a big announcement coming next week.
Either they’re moving to Vermont and getting married, or they’re signing with the WWE to form a tag team to take on Olbermoron and Shyster in a cage match at Wrestlemania.
Ref: The horrific story out of California this week about the 15 year old girl who was gang-raped outside of her school’s homecoming dance.
I heard the story a few times on CNN, and each time, it was reported that the girl left the dance early, and was to be picked up by her father. However, a gang of kids attacked her for a few hours, while some came and went, and the school chaperones and police were nowhere to be found. etc.
End of story.
But doesn’t the question of what her father was doing just jump out here? Did he not show up to pick her up? And if he did, didn’t he start looking for her, or summon others to help find her?
Am I the only one in the world who is asking this question?
Again, I happened to be watching CNN (for whatever reason?) that day, and heard the story reported there, but that’s not to say Fox or anyone else wouldn’t have had the same glaring omission from their version. Why don’t these reporters do a better job of asking questions?
And once again, what WAS the father doing for the two hours it took to locate the girl?
Knowing that unemployment stats will be lagging way behind other economic numbers, the administration is using this dubious calculation as a tool for dampening the inevitable criticism. The claim cannot be proven one way or the other (although that AP article was somewhat convincing) and, even though new unemployment claim filings are still in the hundreds of thousands per month, the “created or saved” line still isn’t necessarily an outright lie.
Put another way, it’s the president’s job to “talk up” the nation’s economy. He doesn’t have a whole lot else to work with right now. So maybe the claim, true or not, is a good thing in the long run.
Haven’t seen what she’ll have to say about it yet, but Laura Ingraham’s opening on OReilly’s show claims controversy about the president saluting KIAs during a photo op at Dover AFB.
While I’ll grant it’s plausible this was done only for the photo op, on a topic such as this the POTUS should always get the benefit of doubt. Every POTUS.
Al, Liz Cheney is making a very excellent point….that Bush did this as well….with no cameras present.
Sorry, but having the cameras there makes this disingenuous, especially considering the controversy Obama now finds himself in regarding the troops request for Afghanistan.
Al, Liz Cheney is making noise about it, as if the President asked family members if they wanted photos with him. He didn’t. She also said Bush went to Dover in private. He didn’t. Neither did her father. Liz Cheney is a moron.
Only half listening to Rachel by then, but she said something about a Bush staffer confirming he never met caskets at Dover. Did I mention Liz Cheney is vile?
Gotta run for a while. I can’t wait to come back and hear how Obama is a grandstanding socialist, and Bush and Five Deferments Cheney were somehow honorable by hiding all trace of the dead bodies that came back for 7 years. As Al alluded to, some things are outside of partisan crap. But of course, with Obama, some of you whackos have to find something wrong with EVERY SINGLE STEP HE TAKES. Have at it.
Don’t know about President Bush # 43, but we now know that President Bush #41 went to several locations to pay respects without any press contingent along, and this includes his night-time trips to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial where his sudden, no frills appearances startled a few tourists. Wouldn’t be at all surprised that his son did the same.
Red, of course they had to ask for THAT. Liz intimated that he asked the families if they wanted a photo with HIM. And it’s not a ‘photo-op’, as the term is generally known. It’s a public honoring of the sacrifice of, in most cases, very young soldiers. It should have been done a long time ago. What’s WRONG with you?
Laura Ingraham did a good job and did ask that tough question of one of her guests who answered that what was different about this time was the large number of bodies that came home… making this a moment in which the president should be there publicly. Ms. Ingraham resonded, “Fair enough”.
You know, there’s plenty to criticise this president for and we should. But using his visit to Dove AFB as a point of criticism – even if he truly was being disingenuous – is too close to using fallen heroes for political gain for my tastes. Take the high road.
They were covered and reporters were present The rule was no photos and for the purpose of respect for the dead. I can accept a disagreement with that policy, but assigning an ulterior motive to it without proof is low class.
BS, Red. I gave W. the benefit of the doubt ’til late 2003. I had a flag on my car just like everybody else after 9/11, and would have taken serious offense to ANYONE criticizing the president during those days. Bush and Cheney EARNED my disgust. And I don’t care who started the policy 18 years ago, it should have been lifted when the wars began so the Amaerican people could face what we were doing. No photos, lower taxes. If you weren’t directly related to someone over there, the wars did not touch you. Reprehensible.
Yeah, I don’t “get along” today, so now I’m a partisan hack. Suit yourselves. Bush was a miserable president, and Obama shouldn’t be harrassed by the the likes of Liz Cheney for honoring our dead soldiers.
I don’t care if you get along. Sometimes not getting along is the better choice. But it is possible to disagree with the policies and decisions on their merits without personal attacks on the person. I expected better from you.
Which ‘personal attack’ are you referring, Al. You know darn well I despise W. for being an incurious overgrown jock with a misplaced messianic sense of certitude. And if you didn’t guess I would find Liz Cheney to be lying parasite…surprise!
Al Translated: “proving someone wrong is a horrible personal attack.”
I misjudged your reasoning abilities. No biggie.
Grade-A prime Al: “You disagree with me because you’re stupid.” Sweet.
Liz Cheney said Bush-II went privately to Dover sans cameras. Liz Cheney pulls that fact out of her a$$ – Bush-II never went to Dover in his entire tenure. This is not an opinion, this is not ‘spin’ – this is a fact. Deal with it.
Al disagreeing with me is not the same as Al is a bad guy. Just so we’re clear. I’ve had many excellent debates with him, and we have agreed from time to time, also. I don’t think he was around here during the run-up to the election, and may not have had a taste of the abject vitriol I hold for Bush/Cheney. I thought those 8 years would never end.
Missy, your focus on “how do you know Bush didn’t go” misses the point. Liz Cheney is a jerk for criticizing the President for meeting the caskets at Dover. What part of “you don’t have to have something nasty to say about everything” does she not understand? She’s just mean. Period.
Missy, your focus on “how do you know Bush didn’t go” misses the point.
It may miss your point but not mine. Does anyone here honestly think a president in this day and age could SNEAK OUT to Dover? Missy doesn’t want to admit that her co-religionist is a liar and fantasizer.
Theatre critic turned historian cum political philosopher Frank Rich claims that Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are “re-enacting Stalinism in full purge mode”.
Full purge mode? Stalinism? Like forced labor camps, show trials, coerced confessions? That type of thing? Who knew?
Gosh, somebody needs to tell Keller and get this on the front page.
And remember: It’s the right that is using nasty inflammatory language*.

Herr Doktor Professor Krugman has a doozy of a column today.
He doesn’t make arguments anymore; he issues indictments. An embarassing hack, he is.
I’m beginning to question the knowledge and wisdom of the Nobel Prize Committee. Seditious wingnut that I am.

More accurately, that would be saved.
And the job would be mine.

Joe, how the hell do YOU know whether Bush, Cheney or even I, for that matter, went to Dover to greet our fallen soldiers?
October 30, 2009 at 5:27 pm
I heard it on the news. I’m pretty sure they didn’t just make it up. If the President or VP goes to meet caskets at Dover, there’s a record of it.

Only half listening to Rachel by then, but she said something about a Bush staffer confirming he never met caskets at Dover. Did I mention Liz Cheney is vile?
October 30, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Joe, Obama’s staff had to ask the families if it was ok for the White House press corps to take photos of their dead sons arriving.
You know damn well it was used as a photo-op.
I’m not saying he didn’t feel any sympathy for the deceased, but dragging along the press corps makes it disingenuous.

At the time when President Obama lifted the photo ban the policy was 18 years old. Your offence is misplaced.

Joe is doing with Bush what he accuses me of doing with Obama. We’ve listened…for NINE YEARS NOW, that everything Bush does was wrong.
It continues today. But Obama gets criticized for nine months, and the partisan hacks can’t take it.
No hypocrisy there.
