Election (over) Coverage: Your Reactions…
Post your comments of tonight’s mega super-duper you-really-must-watch-because-we-say-this-is-a-defining-moment (even though it really isn’t) coverage of a handful of election races, and the coverage thereof, here…

It’s so lame. I thought I woud be all in, but I haven’t even watched much cable news yet today, and it’s already nauseating. The contests don’t mean shyte for 2010-2012. It’s the economy, stupid.

If you only – and only – look at these elections it’d be reckless to draw any larger conclusions about the direction of the nation politically. Sure, the unemployment numbers (in particular), stock market and GDP stats a year from now will be more determinitive.
But if you combine these scattered election data points (if the numbers hold up) with the latest polling numbers as well as the loss by Obama of many moderates and independents, an inchoate picture starts to slowly develop. Maybe.
I’ve said it twice, why not once more? The blue dogs are the big winners tonight. I think Harry Reid’s statement that he won’t commit to pushing healthcare this year might be a sign of it.
Democrats are in disarray. So are the Republicans.
A third party might come in handy right now, but it’s nowhere to be found.

Larry Sabato and Chuck Todd are making an interesting point on Hardball. The young people who voted for Obama may not show up for elections in which he’s not on the ballot. That could be a big problem.
November 3, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Cable news is having a collective hard on as they try to make a big deal out of this. Beyond lame. Most citizens know it, too.
Perhaps they are hoping to re-capture semi-big ratings from last year.
Im watching a movie myself.

Elloit Spitzer(!) is making what, in hindsight, seems like a fairly obvious point. All incumbent governors have had to make painful budget cuts this year, and they’re all vulnerable.

Checking the websites…
CNN: The “Political Ticker” says (and you have to click on few stories to get to those results): “Republican Bob McDonnell is leading Democrat Creigh Deeds in Virginia’s gubernatorial race, according to CNN exit polls.” And that’s all they’ve got… and that’s an update from 7:01p (it’s 7:25p now).
FOXNews.com: The homepage still shows 0% to 0% for the VA race.
MSNBC.com: The homepage has a graphic showing McDonnell at 68% and Deeds at 32%.
And Drudge says: “21,083 McDonnell [R] 10,727 Deeds [D]”
WHAT THE CRAP IS GOING ON?! I know it’s relatively unimportant… but come on, this is just your websites! This what you guys are for! MSNBC is the only one who looks professional! FNC doesn’t have their act together, and CNN apparently doesn’t care enough to put it on the homepage! What the frick-frack?!

I am sick of hearing talking heads and political reporters make these elections into a referendum. They just need a story to report. I voted today for who was on the ballot, not who will be. And I think most Americans do that.
November 3, 2009 at 4:41 pm
- 0% 0& Foxnews –
The polls haven’t yet closed so they aren’t reporting any results. CNN only reporting “exit polling”, which is good for the back-picture analysis of an election but worthless for determining who wins.
November 3, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I’m enjoying watching tonight’s election. The channel flipping between FNC & CNN got old so I’ve settled on FOX…
…WAIT – Hannity is on, maybe I’ll cast a vote with my remote and get a Blitzer… darn, Larry King. *YAWN*.
Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. Now there’s something fun.
November 3, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Karl Rove…or Mike Rowe. That’s a toughie. Has he been on the GreatGreatGreat American Panel?
November 3, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Mike Rowe has not, but he did have an episode on dirty politics.
November 3, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Larry King just interviewed Jesse Ventura on the significance of this evening’s elections.
I did not make that up.
Sometimes you can never be too cynical about things. This is one of those times.
November 3, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Jesse, James and Ben. Somewhere in H=ll, Satan’s enjoying his day off.

What is it with New Jersey politicians and the song ‘Born to Run’? Great song, but it mentions suicide twice. What are they trying to say about their state?
November 3, 2009 at 8:40 pm
^
That everybody loves The Boss and doesn’t pay attention to the words? I had no idea there were suicide references in it.
November 3, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I’m sure Chris Mathews is eager to do it, but who’s the idiot that lets him on television at midnight? It’s past his bedtime, and he’s bound to say something odd or incomprehensible by 1 am.
November 3, 2009 at 9:07 pm
– odd or incomprehensible –
You think that’s not the plan? He’s the Yogi Berra of political pundit/hosts.
November 3, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Well we already know the spin the MSM will have for the election results..the loss of the 2 Governorships means nothing about Obama but the Hoffman loss in NY means the end of the GOP forever. LOL!!!
November 3, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Sucky night all around for my party (although Deeds was expected to lose and with Corzine having an approval rating of 40% his loss can’t be too surprising), but I absolutely LOVE the fact that Red had Palin’s endorsement of Hoffman winning this thing for him…. LOL! How you doing Red after your teabagging candidate conceded the race?
Hoffman’s association with Palin and his declarations of love for Beck & LimPbaugh doomed the man in a district the Republicans have held since the Civil War era.
Good times and on to 2010.
November 3, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Hoffman is an idiot. He didn’t want to talk about local issues. Hey Hoffman, it doesn’t get much more ‘local’ than something called “23rd District”. I’ll say it for Red: douchebag.
November 3, 2009 at 10:08 pm
Governorship of New Jersey or obscure congressional seat in New York. Yeah, babe, good times..
November 3, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Hoffman lost on absentee ballots cast long before the liberal Republican candidate was outed and shooed-off.
November 4, 2009 at 5:06 am
It is a miracle that the dems were not able to steal the election in NJ! Corzine, with all of his millions, actually lost!
Still hard to believe. But thank God!
November 4, 2009 at 7:07 am
Corzine lost? That couldn’t have been much of a story. CNN didn’t cover his speech: they were talking about sexy accents. Neither did MSNBC, which was rerunning Countdown from two hours earlier. Oh wait, Fox News did carry Corzine’s speech. But does that count? After all, they’re not a news channel, or so I’ve heard. I think that guy Christie won. I saw his acceptance speech on Fox. But I guess that wasn’t really newsworthy, because MSNBC didn’t air that speech either. They should know, they are ‘the place for politics’.
November 4, 2009 at 8:10 am
Shawny, time to change your diapers. I think you soiled them last night with your party’s utter defeat.
First of all, this b.s. about Republicans holding this seat since the Civil War is….b.s. Dems have represented that area more than Republicans throughout the past 100 years, including as recently as 1993. Look it up.
Also, I never said anything remotely close to Palin’s endorsement meant Hoffman would win. I said it changed the race, and it did, by forcing the liberal Scozzafava out.
In fact, here’s the full quote:
“he NY-23 Congressional race should’ve been in Hot, and shame on me for not nominating it.
The no restrictions on abortion, liberal Republican candidate sunk way behind the Conservative Party candidate, and was forced to withdraw.
Sarah Palin’s endorsement changed this race. It’s a big story.
Now, the lib Republican has endorsed the Dim, reinforcing what they were saying about her all along.”
November 4, 2009 at 8:54 am
BR- does Sean’s “logic” give you the impression that we’re about to see a “Pay not attention to man behind the curtain” defense from the media and the Democrats? “Pay no attention to the major races they lost… pay only attention to the slight victory they pulled out in the boonies of NY.”
November 4, 2009 at 11:25 am
What is it with New Jersey politicians and the song ‘Born to Run’? Great song, but it mentions suicide twice. What are they trying to say about their state?
I dunno, but isn’t it Sean Hannity who uses Martina McBride’s Independence Day on his radio show?
(Just FYI, the song is about a battered wife who burned down her house with her husband in it.)
November 4, 2009 at 11:43 am
– battered wife who burned down her house with her husband in it. –
Is there a problem with that?
November 4, 2009 at 11:59 am
Kind of surprised Fox bailed at midnight, 9 p.m. west coast time. Pretty weak.
November 4, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Dan, they stayed on until all the races were decided, except for Maine’s same-sex marriage issue.
Art, Hannity only uses the chorus, not the other lyrics.
Blue, Shawny’s douchebaggery never surprises me.
