Olbermann’s Disappearing Three Fingered Prejean Salute…
Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher notes that Keith Olbermann gave Carrie Prejean a three fingered salute last night on Countdown, a moment not captured on the MSNBC version of the video. For those who don’t know what a three fingered salute stands for in some circles…well…there is Google…
Here’s the segment. Keith’s salute is at the very end, and doesn’t appear in MSNBC’s version of the clip:
The gesture is either a fairly obvious attempt at shock humor, or an accidental one. Given MSNBC’s history of thinly-veiled entendre, and the context here, I’d say it’s the former. It’s ironic that he uses a Girl Scout salute as the fig leaf since, unlike the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl scouts don’t discriminate against gay people.

Yes I agree. Prejean is disgusting and she should get herself a big life sized cross, so whenever she’s feeling persecuted (which is always), she can nail herself to it for the world to see.
Watching that interview with Viera, I almost hurled. Hearing her go on and on about how CONservative women are always attacked and held to a different standard, and how she’s been Sarah Palin-ed. Good grief. Finally, there is someone who even Palin can say she is intellectually superior to.

I find it ironic that even Jeff Zucker’s parents do not watch KO. Perhaps when the Comcast purchase of NBCU is complete, KO will be looking for employment at another network???
You would think with KO’s past abuse history towards women (Suzy Kolber & Rebecca Lobo) that he’d stay away from making these comments.

One can think that Ms. Prejean is a silly nothing – which she is – and still believe that Olbermann is being juvenile.
Really, leave this sort of thing to Jon Stewart. He’s funnier and its more appropriate for the type of show that he does.

I love the Left. They create these people, and then they b!tch about them. They created Joe the Plumber, they created Michelle Bachmann, they created Carrie Prejean, and, perhaps to a lesser extent, they created Sarah Palin (that one may have been a good move, since now we’re stuck with her).
There needs to be a name for people whose persona’s are built on the hatred of the Left. Carrie Prejean is the latest and greatest example. She is a woman of little consequence, if even that. She will end up a millionaire and an inescapable media figure, based upon the deranged hatred of one man (at least initially).
Perez Hilton and his psychological soul-mates have created this woman. I wonder if they are sufficiently aware to realize that their hatred is the oxygen that keeps her (and others like her) alive.

Laura, your theory is accurate, but your impression that it’s a negative for the Left is not. These right-wing lightweights offer themselves up as easy targets, which the Right makes the mistake of defending as Serious Defenders Of All That Is Good, and puts them on the road for media tours. Which, in Prejean’s case, means letting someone who obviously is allowed to say whatever she wants continue to bitch about having her “free speech” suppressed. And as long as she keeps talking, The Christian Right has to keep defending a girl who poses semi-nude and sends her boyfriend sex tapes. Perez Hilton – whoever that is – may have created her, but the Left is not complaining.

If Prejean had just let other people speculate that she was denied the crown because of her answer, and declined to get into it, said she’d just go back to being the best Miss California she could be she’d be…..what?
She’s become the Joan of Arc of the Right, it was a good career move. I can’t even name the state of the winner of the Miss USA pageant.
ps. I still don’t get the salute. Was it a reverse “read between the lines” thing? A reference to the video?

Laura, The ‘negative impression’ I picked up was you wondering if Hilton and his ilk no they supply the oxygen that keeps Prejean, Palin, Bachmann, et al, on stage. I believe they do…and are quite happy about it. If the Right would stop jumping to these clowns’ defense, the Left would be stuck blowing hot air.

As Laura1 stated above…the “Perez Hilton’s & his ideological soul mates” really do not offer much in terms of providing any relevant value to society. Quite frankly, I’ll take the “Carrie Prejeans” of the world vs. Perez Hilton & his ilk every single day of the week.
Whereas, Miss Prejean will admit her errors, Perez Hilton tends to place blame on other’s instead of looking in the mirror (i.e. fight w/member of Black Eyed Peas)
Perez Hilton is/will continue to be a pimple on the a$$ of society.

You won’t get an argument from me there, Chips. In fact, my efforts at argument today have fallen rather flat, overall. What little I know about Hilton I read in an article in Entertainment Weakly…10 minutes of my life I will never get back.
For the record, if you weren’t around for my opinions of the initial Prejean story: The Left’s criticism of her opinion on g@y marriage is hysterical (hysteria definition, not comedy). It’s one young woman’s opinion, and she has a right to it. My critciism of her now relates to the constant complaining about free speech. The gaurantee of free speech in the constitution relates to protection of it from interference by the government. No government has suppressed Carrie Prejean, and the media has done quite the opposite.

KO needs to grow up..if you want to criticize her on her views on gay marriage fine(I for one support Gay rights for the most part including their right to marry)but to go after her for a tape she did as a teen as some sign she’s a hypocrite or something is a bit much.
I would love to here KO explain why he keeps going after Prejean?.. who holds no political office and has no influence on Gay marriage…but keeps giving Obama a pass on it when he dose have the power to influence it.

I’m begining to wonder if Prejean reminds KO of one of those women he used to stalk..how else can you explain him using his show to go after her while givng little to no attention to the Hood shootings and on Veterans day of all things…
Of course I know he doesn’t really want to cover Hood period because it doesn’t fit the template of all these shootings..that are supposed to be carried out by Right-wing Christians who get their marching orders from Beck and Rush.
