The Hazards of Live TV: #25,032…
Nobody’s going to remember the word “maybe” which preceded the words “enemy camp”. This is typical Matthews, shoot from the hip and let the chips fall where they may. The red blogs are of course up in arms.

The red blogs are of course up in arms.
When aren’t they?

When aren’t they?
Joe, why shouldn’t people on the right be upset with Matthews statement? It’s an elitist/snobbish statement against our military. That’s the reason people on the right are upset.

Chips, it was obviously a poorly worded reference to a room visibly unhappy with the President’s plan (me, too). He wasn’t calling our military The Enemy, he was using a generic term for “hostile crowd”. “Red blogs” will flip out about anything.

Joe, I’ll agree it was poorly worded however it’s becoming quite common for CM to have these “poorly worded statements”. It’s quite apparent that the filter between Chris Matthews mouth & his brain has malfunctioned.
I wonder if CM will issue a retraction to his “misstatement” tonight?

The red blogs (and anyone on the right) know that had any conservative made such a comment about ANYONE on the left, they’d be tarred, feathered and Imussed by now. But Chrissy just states that “maybe” it was a poor choice of words????
Our country is in HUGE trouble if, in fact, the POTUS and our military are not on the same page regarding our military strategy in the world.

Of course, the blue blogs never overreact to anything.

‘When aren’t they?’
Usually when the blue blogs are. It’s like a game over which side can be more outraged over some perceived slight.
On the other hand, Matthews makes a living with words and is judged accordingly. He also likes to say provocative things. Both of those need to be in better sync.

You guys, with the comparison thing. Would it kill you to talk about this topic? Of course blue blogs flip out, too. WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW.

Uh, no.
Our military strategy in the world COMES from the POTUS – always has, always will. Any member of the military that has an issue with that does not belong in the US armed forces.

Well, you can be in the military and disagree with the Prez; you can even look bored or pissed while he’s talking. It’s your right, as long as you do the job you signed up for. And we all know damn well every man and woman in that room will.

The new theme song for Hardball/Chris Matthews should be “If I Only Had A Brain” (Wizard Of Oz).
December 2, 2009 at 10:18 am
Art, your boy Chrissy is the one who stated that the military was “enemy camp”. So don’t go blaming the military for being at odds w/ 0 and his policies – they didn’t say they were; Chrissy implied that fact.
December 2, 2009 at 10:33 am
and why is Chrissy suddenly MINE??
December 2, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Straight up apology from “Chrissy” at the top of the show. You don’t have to agree with him, but Chris Mathews is an honorable man.
December 2, 2009 at 2:30 pm
He didn’t let it stretch out the way so many do, and give a mealy-mouth ‘sorry if I offended’. He’s one of the more tolerable liberals out there.
