  1. grandpadave Says:

    HOT: Haiti, of course.
    HOT: Beck producer to MSNBC.
    HOT: FNB schedule; Imus extension.

    NOT: “Ailes is out” story.

  2. HOT and Depressing – The Haitian earthquake aftermath coverage.

Hot – Governor Sarah Palin becomes a Fox News political contributor. We’ll have to wait and see how well she makes the transition from campaign speaker to current event analyst.

Not Hot – All of the other network talking heads snarking about Sarah Palin and her joining FNC. All publicity is good publicity and the same ineffective tactic of characterising as “dumb” was used against Ronald Reagan years ago. Didn’t work then, won’t work now, and you’d think they’d learn.

Hot – Breaking News in the midst of Breaking News…. Conan vs. Leno and both vs. NBC, of course. I know it’s news and deserves airing, but hearing about how many tens of millions Mr. O’ Brien may walk away with right after hearing how little the people of Haiti have seems…. distasteful.

  3. Very Not Hot: MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow used the Haiti tragedy to score political points (to his credit, Jon Stewart blasted both Maddow and the cable channel for it). The concept of a time-and-place apparently is foreign to them. Just stop.

As Chuck Todd said about Limbaugh’s more egregious acts: “Not everything is politics.”

  4. Steve: I know KO made an inappropriate reference to health care but I watched most of the RM coverage and must have missed what you are referring to as her reporting seemed pretty fare to me. What behavior are you talking about?

  5. Not Hot: Only recently are fans noticing that Juliet Huddy has been MIA at FNC for a while now, with no explanation.

  6. NOT HOT – Greta whining on her blog about not getting into Haiti.

Btw, wouldn’t you be a little more comfortable here in the states “staking out” Tiger Woods’ sex rehab stint?

  7. NOT HOT: Every reporter and his brother converging on Haiti. It’s overkill and they’re falling all over each other looking for THE story.

NOT HOT: Hillary Clinton going to Haiti to accompany some humanitarian supplies. Even before this tragic disaster, Haiti was a nasty place to be, so she needs TONS of security, and for what? Nobody else could have shipped it in, and without the fanfare? Yes, we all know that she cares, but she can show it from here without flying that humongous entourage into a dangerous place, and without getting in the way of those actually doing the work.

  8. I have to disagree, BW. While it would be distracting and highly counter-productive for either POTUS or VPOTUS to arrive on-scene at this stage of rescue, Mrs. Clinton is the USSOS and it’s her job as the highest ranking US government official who should make such an appearance.

  9. Terence really dislikes Great, doesn’t he?

Greta is getting into Haiti, BTW, with Sec. Clinton. Although I could be wrong.

  10. Sorry, Al, but we believe that Mrs. Clinton is unlike most other Secretaries of State in that she’s very high-profile and a celebrity in her own right, which would make her more of a target.

One of us read something earlier today about how a kid who was working for Wyclef Jean’s foundation was shot dead while driving a truck (for some aid purpose) because some thugs wanted the truck.

Haiti is a very a bad place and Secy Clinton is a very recognizable woman whose presence there requires a great deal of security. Security that might be put to better use protecting the aid workers.

No high-level US official needs to show up right now, both for their security and for that of the people who are doing the actual on-the-ground work.

Corny: Greta is becoming quite the parody of herself, isn’t she? Sad.

  11. I agree with boogiewoogee.

That said, I don’t think anyone that requires “extra security” should be allowed in these type of situations.. (Until the dead have been recovered, the injured mended, and the “aid” is flowing.)

  12. Terance: My understanding is that she won’t travel into the city for security reasons; just meet government officials at the airport and do a fly-over to view the damage.

  13. missy5537 Says:

Greta goes to virtually every venue to get a story, whether it’s weather/disaster related, a highly charged political issue, some celebutard in trouble or a white woman who is missing. I think we’d be surprised if she DIDN’T go to Haiti! She’s been to Iraq, Afghanistan, N. Korea, you name it! She’s pals with the Bushes, Clintons and Palins. And she does get the interviews!

And re: Rush and his comments. All he said was that we’re to be careful regarding the organizations we contribute to! The secret’s out that the PTBs in Haiti are criminal thugs and out to steal any money that we intend for humanitarian efforts, so Rush et al are just telling us to give to reputable organizations. Already this Wolfman Jean or whatever is found to be corrupt, yet earlier in the week it seemed as if he was the guy we should be donating through. Donate, but just be careful to ensure that your hard earned money is going to get to the people who need it!

  14. missy5537 Says:

Sorry; the guy’s name is “Wyclef Jean” (not Wolfman). But I had the W, L and F correct!

Anyway, I should have sourced the part when I called the guy in to question. The Washington Post brought up some concerns http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/15/AR2010011504024.html, and then The Smoking Gun found some issues http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0115102wyclef1.html?link=rssfeed , which were addressed by Mr. Jean here: http://www.hiphoprx.com/2010/01/16/wyclef-responds-to-yele-haitis-financial-scrutiny-after-raising-2-mil-in-aid/ .

So donate if you want, to whomever you want to, but just be vigilant.

  15. Hot: CNN,s wall to wall coverage from thew beginning of the Haiti disaster.
Hot: Coverage of the FNC Palin interviews. Never has so much been said about so little.
Hot: Daily Rundown debuts on MSNBC. A really good show that I think may move to primetime if an opening appears.
Hot: Anderson Cooper to co-host Haiti telethon. Whatever you think of AC he’s the best choice.
Hot: Fox producer forced out by Beck “team” and moves to MSNBC.
Hot: Coverage of NBC late night Tonight show wars.
Not Hot: Rumor that Beck poached Palin interview from Hannity
Not Hot: MSNBC & FNC not doing full coverage of Haiti tradegy from hour one. If it’s news; cover it.

  16. Fritz, of all the reporters and anchors out there, why is AC the best choice?

  17. mlong5000 Says:

    HOT:Haiti nuff said.

    The Leno/O’Brian drama.

    Sara Palin FOX debut.

    The Mass Senate race.

NOT:KO trying to use the Haiti earthquake to push for Obamacare.

KO lies about Rush..claiming he didn’t have any links to donate to Haitian relief on his website when he infact did this plus the other lies from the MSM on what he said about giving aid to Haiti

The attacks on Palin(it’s really getting as old as using the term Teabagger).

  18. huntandhunter Says:

    Hot: Dr. Sanjay

Not: Ms. Greta not in Haiti when everyone else are.

  19. “why is AC the best choice?”
I’ll probably regret this but here goes.
AC has been in Haiti since day one and will be for weeks. He has been there many times before and has local contacts as well as experience in natural disasters.
He has an audience outside of cable news because of his appearances on “60 Minutes” & “Regis & Kelly”.
He is very good at tugging at the heartstrings which is what this job is all about.
He is associated with reporting from wars & natural & man made disasters.
The big three; Brian, Katie & Diane eliminate each other for obvious reasons.
MSNBC has no hosts in Haiti, at the moment, and no none political hosts with any stature outside cable news.
FNC has one host Shep Smith who is could do the job but he hasn’t been to Haiti and no profile outside cable news.
Greta has even less profile and experience than Shep.
MSNBC & FNC are associated with major networks; CNN is not.
MSNBC & FNC aren’t televising the telethon: CNN is.
My second choice would be Sanjay Gupta but he is also employed by CNN.
    Hope this helps.

  20. huntandhunter Says:

AC blend in well with “Hollywood” too.

  21. HOT: Haiti coverage. What I’ve seen has been really well done. Shep Smith was masterful filling in when Steve Harrigan broke down. CNN had excellent coverage of the 11 year old girl being pulled from the rumble..and heartbreakingly dying the next day. Overall, well done on all ends, that I’ve seen.

NOT HOT: Politicizing Haiti. Righties, lefties, whoever. STOP IT!!

HOT: The Massachusetts Senate race. Coakley is a disaster. Curt Schilling is a Yankee fan???!!!! WTF??!!

HOT: Palin debuts on FOX to huge ratings.

NOT HOT: Moronic other channels boosting FNC’s numbers by bashing Palin.

  22. NOT HOT: Politicizing Haiti. Righties, lefties, whoever. STOP IT!!

    Preach it, brother.
