What’s Hot/What’s Not: 01/31/10

What’s Hot:

James O’Keefe Arrested – This news was covered heavily on MSNBC but all the networks devoted some amount of coverage to it.

Cablevision MSNBC Exclusivity Deal Ends – And beleaguered MSNBC fans who suffered for years wanting the channel but couldn’t get it on Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse rejoiced…

MSNBC restores order to 2pm – After years of an inconsistent 2pm schedule, MSNBC finally did the right thing and restored the hour to 5 day a week news programming.

Grumbling amongst Situation Room staffers – Word leaked out via Politico’s Michael Calderone, that Situation Room staffers were not happy with ceding an hour of the show to Rick Sanchez.

Obama and the Congressional GOP – Friday’s pow wow between Obama and Congressional Republicans was must see TV…

What’s Not:

Susan Lisovicz departs CNN – Another veteran CNN correspondent gets “not renewed”…

Chris Matthews puts his foot in it again with comments on Obama’s SOTU address – I guess he just can’t help it.

David Shuster – Shuster got into trouble for some very pointed Tweets he made regarding James O’Keefe. Although MSNBC wasn’t happy about it, it didn’t stop the network from sending Shuster to Louisiana to report on the O’Keefe story, something that never should have been allowed to happen. But that was only half the story…

MSNBC Fight Club – While in Louisiana Shuster had a ridiculous devoid of news shoutfest with Andrew Breitbart. Totally unrelated, but on the same day Senator Judd Gregg got his dander up in an interview with Melissa Francis and Contessa Brewer. The latter incident couldn’t have been foreseen by the staff. The former could have been easily foreseen by the staff. Which raises the question of why it was allowed to go forward.

Yes Krakauer…I stole that headline from you. It was too good not to steal…

  1. – Chris Matthews –

Wouldn’t you love to be his wife with him at a dinner-party, after a few drinks? Awkward details aplenty.

  2. -Matthews-

A White House dinner party, a few drinks, and then a tinkle runs down his leg.

  3. I’m pretty sure Chris is a recovering alcoholic, so I imagine it would be pretty awkward.

  4. He’d be drinking Kool-aid, of course, so could continue recovering for another day.

  5. Kool-Aid. Ooh, I get it!

  6. Gee Spud the coverage of the POTUS’s Q & A with Republicans
(shown multiple times on MSNBC; discussed ad nauseum on CNN and cut short by FNC) doesn’t rate and people grumbling at CNN about Rick Sanchez does! It would be more newsworthy if they didn’t complain about him.

  7. ^ It’s the 5th item down.

  8. ^Ouch!

  9. I’d cast stones but my house is looking rather glassy…

  10. Re Shuster’s tweets: he hasn’t tweeted a single tweet since last Wednesday.

  11. Perhaps Shuster’s boss is choking his tweeter.
