The Hazards of Live TV: #25,048
From an emailer…
Willie Geist just broke into Hardball to say they interviewed a fake Ryan Miller from the US Hockey team earlier, then brought the real one on. I guess Fake Miller gauranteed a gold this weekend.
I’ll add some color to this. I watched that interview with ‘Miller’ and Willie Geist during MSNBC’s Olympic Post Game Show. In fact, I have it on DVR but I’m not posting it online because the NBC/IOC police will probably just yank it down again. As I was watching it and listening to ‘Miller’ talk about the team figuring that they’d be playing Canada, how they were already watching Canada game film, and how he expected a repeat of their last matchup, I was saying to myself, “What the hell is ‘Miller’ doing? He’s putting all sorts of bulliten board material up for Team Canada.” Now I see why ‘Miller’ was being so reckless. It wasn’t him. I should have known. His voice sounded off and I’ve heard the real Miller’s voice numerous times as he did a hilarious insult laden commmercial with a fake NHL player as his opponent.
An oddity of this punking is that the punker didn’t out himself as typically happens when they manage to succeed breaking through to on air territory. So one wonders who tipped MSNBC off to this? Team USA?
Update: TVNewser has some more info on how the real Miller wound up being interviewed during Hardball…

Surprised no one’s commented on Joe’s story. Guess y’all watch so we don’t have to, eh?

TVNewser’s comments section is hopeless. One generic MSNBC crack and two “Geist over his head” comments. OK, maybe Willie isn’t a dyed-in-the-wool hockey fan, but he does an excellent sports report on Way Too Early, and I don’t doubt for a minute he ended up in Vancouver after much begging and pleading as a sports fan. Two hours from now, there will be 10 comments accusing him of liberal bias towards the faker..

We may be quiet, but predominantly sane.

Remi – TVN’s comment section is nothing but an off topic partisan hack convention. But, I guess it brings in the page views, eh?
