What’s Hot/What’s Not: 03/07/10
What’s Hot:
Betty Nguyen – Nguyen jumps from CNN weekends to CBS News.
What’s Not:
Felis Gillette changes jobs at the Observer – And the quality of output average by the MSM Media Writers just took a hit…
CNN’s impending decision over Campbell Brown, or lack thereof – The New York Post put up a stupid story about CNN now having to worry about what to do with Campbell Brown if Dan Senor runs for Senate. It was typical Post, pre-mature and over-reaching in its claims…
Whoever is in charge of naming CNN programs – American Morning, Fareed Zakaria GPS, No Bias, No Bull, and now John King USA. Whatever happened to the days when show names stood for something or made sense; Crossfire, The Situation Room, Amanpour, Reliable Sources…it can be done right you know…
Craig Crawford leaves MSNBC – Networks lose analysts all the time but the departure of a sturdy, dependable veteran like Crawford, and the reasons why he left, are a sign of problems with the shape and scope of MSNBC’s programming…

I don’t mind the Fareed Zakaria GPS name all that much; although the GPS (Global Pubic Square) is a little on the cute side.
Strangely, the situation with Craig Crawford is almost a mirror image of the problems between MSNBC and Dana Milbank awhile back.
It’s interesting that both rely on caustic humor for their analysis (both are kind of more liberal versions of P. J. O’Rourke) and both are Clinton supporters who haven’t fully jumped on the Obama bandwagon.

Sorry Spud; pubic should read public.

American Morning is a great name!
As for John King USA, I think my suggestion of John King Live may have been too similar to a show already on the air.

Spud said……”and the reasons why he left, are a sign of problems with the shape and scope of MSNBC’s programming…”
Gee, Spud, ya think?
I listen to, rather read, KO and he thinks things are going great seeing as they are tops in that famous Neilsen category “Cable News That Are Not FNC”.

– Global Pubic Square –
Who else thinks that’s a better title than the one they picked? Perhaps the next time they put Anderson Cooper with Kathy Griffin..

Yeah, Global Public Square, spelled out, is okay (though a bit too theoretical)…but GPS still to this day makes me first think of a Global Positionin System and not a Global Public Square.
