CNN Talking to Joy Behar?
Deadline Hollywood Daily’s Nikki Finke and Nellie Andreeva write about CNN talking to Joy Behar about taking Larry King’s slot. I wonder what Ken Jautz thinks about Jon Klein’s alleged attempt at poaching?
A day after Larry King officially announced he will leave his CNN primetime talk show after 25 years, we hear the cable news network is in talks with Joy Behar to replace him. Behar has been one of the strongest internal candidates to succeed King. Her The Joy Behar Show on HLN (formerly known as CNN Headlline News and CNN2) has been the brightest spot on CNN’s mostly grim ratings report. It had the most growth of any primetime CNN show in Q2 among total viewers, up +39%. For comparison, CNN top anchor Anderson Cooper’s ratings were down -30%, King’s down -37%. Behar was also a regular fill-in for King on his show, a stint that led to her getting her own show on HLN.

I don’t see Joy Behar as the answer to their ratings problem.

Hard to see Joy Behar as the answer to anyone’s problem.

Put her in suspenders and big glasses and teach her “Kansas City, HELLO!” Then it can still be Larry King Live and no one will notice.

^ And shoulder pads. He always looked like he was wearing shoulder pads.

^They’ll be here all week. Try the veal.

While we weren’t looking, HLN has become People Magazine/US Daily/Court TV 2. CNN might as well follow Joy Behar Live with E News 360.

I can’t imagine anyone has a clue what HLN is. It seems to be programmed for channel-flippers. You know those police chases you wrong across while flipping channels? You know how you have no idea what channel it is? That’s HLN. Police-chase-programming for women.

Just found out I do have HLN and Joy Behar is on. High-Def.
OK, a minute and a half of listening to her is enough. I’ll check back later. Maybe a high-speed chase will be on.
June 30, 2010 at 9:36 pm
High-Def? I’ll let the trolls handle that one.

I don’t think she’s a good choice to replace Larry King, but I liked her when she sat in for him. I’ve only seen a couple minutes of the HLN show, so no opinion on that one.

Joy would really reel in the younger crowd. It’s a shame Totie Fields died or maybe she could have got the gig…hey maybe Joan Rivers is available!

joy behar has always reminded me of a low rent sort of Bette Midler without the talent–
July 1, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I confess i like Joy. “so what, who cares?”
July 1, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Probably to late now but they should have switched Campbell to the 3-5pm slot and Rick Sanchez should get 9pm having to say Joy Beyhar, Nancy Grace should not get anything on CNN.

I’m diggin’ the Totie Fields idea. Totie Fields!
July 1, 2010 at 7:53 pm
^ The name is vaguely familiar. Looked her up and still not sure who she is.

– Totie Fields –
Joan Rivers! Bonus points for being alive.
July 1, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Is Joey Bishop busy?
Totie was..um..a game show ‘celebrity’? She would show up on game/variety/chat shows in the ’70s, but I couldn’t tell you what qualified her to be there.
July 1, 2010 at 8:17 pm
No qualifications, skills or talent were needed to be a regular on 70′s Game Shows or Mike Douglas etc…it’s kind of like the current cable news criteria.
Rip Taylor is available and due for a comeback

Betty White might be looking for a new gig.
July 1, 2010 at 8:21 pm
– Betty White –
She has a sitcom on TVLand. She’s in her second life. She’d be a good guest, though.

^Hot In Cleveland. White, Valerie Bertinelli, the woman from Just Shoot Me and the Animal Rescue ads, and the British chick from Frasier. They seem to be hiring every actor who’s ever been on television for guest spots. I’ve seen Calr Reiner and the blonde dude from Dukes of Hazzard. It’s adorable. Watch it.

^Calr, Carl, you say tomato..
July 1, 2010 at 9:28 pm
Larry King on the brain. “Calr” is almost “Caller” spelled sideways.
