Mark Halperin joins MSNBC…
TVNewser reports that Mark Halperin is joining MSNBC as an analyst. File this one under “What took so long?” since Halperin has been a mainstay on Morning Joe for quite a while now so it was only natural for things to progress further…

I guess this is designed to lock him up and prevent him from appearing on the other networks. He was on O’Reilly last week and ABC’s “This Week” recently as well.
It appears that NBC/MSNBC has stricter standards about allowing their people to appear on the other networks.

steve – I don’t know about CNN (although I think it also applies), but I’m sure that Fox does this as well….I never see their analysts on other networks. Greta was on “This Week” but I would assume that anchors have more leeway.
This was announced on Morning Joe – if I recall correctly, he is the “senior political analyst.”

You may be right about the analysts (I think you are; I imagine their contracts forbid them from going on other shows).
And I was mixing analysts with the anchors (O’Reilly goes on the other networks, and as you pointed out Greta Van Susteren was on ABC).
But I’ve never seen the MSNBC anchors/hosts on the other networks.
I still think it was to prevent Halperin (who seems to me to either say something very smart or very dumb) from appearing elsewhere.

Which is going to be tough to do as long as he can claim to be promoting a book that’s still selling, and still making news. Elizabeth Edwards is promoting a paperbook version of her book with a new chapter responding to allegations in Game Change.

Yeah but that book has pretty much played out by now, hasn’t it?
And I wonder what Time magazine thinks about any restrictions?

See: ‘still selling, still news’. He’ll get another round out of the paperback release.

Game Change – is old news.
Why would he want to be locked into a contract?

Game Change – is old news.
Elizabeth Edwards added a chapter to her book about it, and referred to it in an interview with Matt Lauer this morning. How is that not news, other than that it doesn’t matter to you personally?

i don’t think Halperin is any good for tv– he just sits there like a bump on a log and says very little and grins at all the “inside” jokes– at least that’s been my experience with him on Morning Joe– he reminds me of a white Harold Ford — “…i’m just here for the free coffee and newspapers”– by the by, did anyone see St. Liz with Matt Lauer yesterday?– she just couldn’t IMAGINE how johnny could have fallen for THAT woman after seeing her compared to herself– and the hair pulled tight on her forehead to show some pattern balding that we’re supposed to think is chemo loss?– pathetic– i wonder what her kids who have to face their friends everytime mommy goes “off the deep end” and has to make daddy’s life miserable think about this– at least she pulled this crap while school was out for the summer
