Spud vs. Tommy Christopher…
I’ve been engaged this afternoon in a running Twitter battle with Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher over his article suggesting that MSNBC hire Christine O’Donnell and pair her in a left/right show at 7pm with someone like Cenk Uygur. J$ suggested I turn this into a blog post but I just don’t have the time to re-lay out my reasons why Christopher’s proposition is a complete non-starter. So you’ll just have to read my Twitter feed…

I thought Tommy was joking.

Personally I think MSNBC should move Hardball to 6, Ed to 7, and then give Ratigan 5 and add an hour of “straight” news at 4.

I thought your responses to him were pretty harsh. I noticed you backed off later.
It’s a bad idea. I’m not convinced she’d even be much good on FNC. She’s charming as a semi-serious candidate, but doesn’t have the gravitas to hold down a daily cable news show.

I don’t even know why you’d waste your time trying to argue logically with Tommy Christopher. You might as well argue with Glynnis or any number of the absurd people Dan Abrams has on his payroll.
Colby and Steve …although left of center…seem to be the only ones with a semblance of sanity on that website.
Tommy though…is just an utter joke.

Starbroker..always good for a kind word..

Starbroker is correct, though.

Yes, it’s a bad idea. The fact that he came up with said bad idea really threw me and maybe I overreacted. I expect better from him than that.

Note his astonishment that he found two sane liberals. What a guy.

Just my opinion, but, it does seem that when Spud knows that he is right, he is right. Next thing you know someone will want to hire Joe the Plumber. What ever happened to journalism?

COD would be a joke as a co-host, and would get dominated by Cenk Uygur on a simple political discussion. She’d start getting into conspiracy theories and the “liberal media”. Furthermore, adding a conservative to MSNBC’s afternoon/evening lineup would be total suicide. They already tried that years ago and their ratings were atrocious, because the liberals who don’t watch Fox news want a better alternative. And, if Comcast is stupid enough to put a conservative host on at that time of the day, they would love a TON of revenue. Go with what’s working and what’s making money… this format is (albeit, slowly).

Re Uygur/O’Donnell
Gee, Parker/Spitzer comes to MSNBC.
November 4, 2010 at 4:04 pm
This is veering off topic, but I don’t get Uygur. He has a sarcastic speaking style that irritates me. He’s fine as a guest on sarcastic-speaking-style-Ratigan’s show, but lousy hosting his own hour.

Your getting ahead of yourself Joe. Remember everyone thought Lawrence O’Donnell would be a disaster based on his MSNBC track record.
If the proper show is formatted for Cenk he could do well. It could also turn out to be Glenn Beck or JK-USA but we shouldn’t base our opinion of what his show will be like on appearances on shows that are set up for others.

I know, Fritz, I thought of that. LOD-type surprises don’t happen very often.

but, it does seem that when Spud knows that he is right, he is right
Except when I’m not….cough, cough…The Last Word…cough…

Joe… you do realize that Cenk literally JUST started guest hosting on TV like a few months ago, don’t you? It’s not like he’s an immediate natural fit that will work with every show format thrown at him. In fact, he’s only been a radio guy for the last decade, almost. He’s great as a guest, but he’s also doing good as a host. Keep in mind, he has to get used to using the teleprompter, too, which radio hosts don’t at all. Even Ed Schultz had trouble with that transition, and he’s gotten better. Give it some time, because I see Cenk as the new rising star in the Progressive media movement. Other people can laugh at that prediction, call him “Chunk” (like J$ does), a Muslim, and other immature remarks, but he’s coming up there in the ranks. Just watch.

Yes Prog, I follow MSNBC better than mere mortals should, and know how long he’s been around. It’s a pet peeve of mine: He rears back and sneers a lot. It’s the same thing Breitbart does that gets under my skin, only Cenk’s words aren’t pissing me off at the same time.
