I wonder if Howie Kurtz will hear from his CNN bosses about appearing on ‘Countdown’ last night. It wasn’t a book promo appearance so you have to wonder about his exclusivity at CNN.
To me it would be as if Fareed Zakaria showed up on ‘The Last Word’ as a pundit; strange.
I think CNN is willing to do anything at this point to raise the profile of its hosts and anchors. Dancing with the Stars, When Animals Attack, Glee guest spots, ANYTHING.
If there are any fellow Vets out there, hello and thank you. I’m still waiting for at least one of my daughters to call, but, I trained them to think independently and to concentrate on their children and spouses. Maybe I just did too good a job as a dad.
Anyway, enjoy the day, we’ll be forgoten tomorrow.
Shep, talking about some soldiers on a carrier. “We’re live on the Intrepid now. They appear to be standing.” No one makes fun of their own show like Shep.
joe, You’re funny. Very descriptive statement.
By the way, I have three daughters. And don’t worry, I figure they will call by the time that they are 40. I know that they love me and I feel very blessed. Sometimes we communicate, our love, despite the silence.
Joe S. was on The View this morning. He mentioned being elected to Congress in 1994 (!) and he said that MJ allows many diverse voices to be heard and that is why its ratings have exploded and it is now the #2 cable morning show. It is?
Carol, I think Robin Meade beats them sometimes, but Joe would be right to consider it not the same type of show. It’s a headline service for people getting ready for work.
Dick Cavett was on Dylan Ratigan lamenting news that isn’t news. This was shortly after I saw coverage of the disabled cruise ship on all three cable newsers (which Shep said “we’ve shown over and over”). Seriously, why is this a news story?
I hate being the only one talking, but since everybody else is out having “lives” (whatever)…KO has a poll up at MSNBC.com about bringing WPitW back. Nice move, hotshot; your viewers are pissed so you have to find a face-saving way to fix something that wasn’t broken.
This was the plan all along. Drop WPitW as a nod to ‘civility’ in the hopes that Jon Stewart won’t put clips of him in his videos any more. Then after a suitable interval, launch a ‘poll’ based on ‘viewer demand’ that is all but guaranteed to support bringing it back in some form. Then announce the results, and start the name calling again. As a bonus, each step along the way is another Nielsen bump. Even cellophane isn’t this transparent.

News-people named ‘T.J.’. There used to be rules about stuff like that.

Happy Veterans Day and thank you, Fred!
For anyone who may be interested, Drew Brees has an awesome article about the debt we all owe in today’s USA Today.

November 11, 2010 at 4:51 pm
Oh yes. Let’s all go off on what does not constitute a news-story. Anything with good tape, almost by definition, is not a real news-story.
November 11, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Geez Laura, I was just asking about this one story. People’s vacations getting screwed up doesn’t seem like news to me.
November 11, 2010 at 5:06 pm
I was agreeing.

^ Like used Neutrogena, as Miller once said.
