What’s on your mind?

  1. If John Boehnor blubbers again, I’m gonna puke.

  2. missy5537 Says:

    Get your bucket ready, Joe.

  3. ^ I better turn off the TV and go ride my bike. I don’t think I can bear it.

  4. missy5537 Says:

If you weren’t so far away (SF area, I believe?), I’d tell you to go bring a bunch of Kleenex to the new speaker.

BTW, that idiot Gibbs is announcing his departure from the WH. What timing – everything that is going on in Congress, and he picks this exact time to do so? And I can’t believe people are even there – you’d think they’d all be at the Capitol.

What is this going to do to Hannity’s program? A huge part of “Hannity” is going after Gibbs. What will Hannity do now?

  5. So long, Robert “um” Gibbs. Don’t let the door hit you..

Can we get Dana Perino back? She’s not really a Republican, ya know. ;-)

  6. lonestar77 Says:

Ahh, Dana Perino. Republican chicks are hot.

  7. For me lots of tears today, too. Not because JB is Speaker of the House (though it makes me happy). I am always happy on days like today because I revel in the greatness of our country. Even though there are many differing views on how to move forward in our country I am still always proud at how easy it is for the transitions to take place. The thought process of those founding fathers who set this system up is quite amazing and I am grateful on days like today to be an American.

  8. John Boehner can cry me a damn river if I don’t have to listen to or look at Nancy Pelosi anymore. If he can do a tenth as much to fix this country as she’s done to destroy, it’ll surprise the hell out of me.

  9. missy5537 Says:

Good points, Pam. I think “course correction” best describes what happened in November and the ensuing ceremony today.

  10. Ditto Laura re Nancy Pelosi. I love how she said yesterday that Republicans really should focus jobs and that all her legislation has been “paygo”. The discussion last night was do we call that a “lie”, is she “disingenuous”, or what. Sometimes people on TV need to learn to call a lie a lie and forget about the correctness of it all.

  11. She’s the ultimate example of a person who just ‘says stuff’, stuff that is plainly untrue. You have to wonder if it’s just a politician lying, or if it’s a mental-imbalance. I have my reasons for leaning toward the latter.

  12. Trace reporting on a hostage-situation — ”It’s noon in the West, which means it’s high lunch time.” That tickled me for some reason.

  13. The Queen is dead. God help us all.

  14. Read over at TVN Nancy Grace resigned with HLN — the eye opening part is in the details:

Interestingly, the deal with HLN comes after Grace and her agent had “serious” discussions with Fox Business Network about bringing her program there, two people close to the situation say.

Who knew Nancy Grace covered business, eh?

  15. Did Robert Gibbs have to pick today, of all days, to resign? He received almost as much media coverage as the new Republican house.

  16. If he can do a tenth as much to fix this country as she’s done to destroy, it’ll surprise the hell out of me.

Does that include walking around on the floor of Congress to pass out bribery checks from the tobacco industry for funding his futile policies? That won’t destroy the country, but it obviously doesn’t help, either. I’m sure he’ll be holding back his crocodile tears when passing out his checks this time around, though.

He received almost as much media coverage as the new Republican house.

Maybe that was a plan… but not a really a plan, just a specific plan sent down by God *Glenn Beck voice*.

  17. ^ Coherence is overrated.

  18. Maybe that was a plan…

If it was, it was a bad one. All the timing did was highlight a communications failure being ushered at the door, as the success he helped create was being sworn in. To paraphrase Chris Matthews, “You guys got a lot done these last two years by sheer force of will, but never learned to explain and sell it to the public. And you paid the price in Nov.”

  19. – but never learned to explain and sell it to the public –

In other words, never learned to convince people that they really wanted what they didn’t want. God.

  20. ^ No, that’s not what I mean. They never made much of an effort to explain why they thought these were good ideas. They just said they were and “trust us”, or “if we don’t, it’ll get worse”.

It’s a game Bush and the Republicans were excellent at, and the Democrats decidedly not. Whether you agreed with Bush’s proposals – or even believed the story – or not, there was no doubt what they were selling. Obama’s crew was a bunch of closed-circle professors who knew better than us and “we’ll see”. We saw, alright. Health care reform has barely begun to be implemented, and already most of the country is on the GOP’s side of the issue..partly because it’s the only side that’s been explained.

It’s too bad Bill Clinton can’t be Press Secretary..

  21. Yeah, I remember how well Clinton sold Hillarycare way back when.

  22. Well, yeah, he got better after he stopped trying to explain someone elses ideas.

  23. -Bill Clinton & Health Care-

Within a year after the Repubs took over Congress in Jan ’95, President Clinton was able to steal (with help from Newt Gingrich) some ideas from Republican governors on handling some federally-financed assistance and healthcare programmes. While some of this was called “tough love”, the end result was fewer Americans needing the help, a lower cost to taxpayers, and more help available for those who truly needed it. That’s how the success of government programmes should be judged instead of just the “more money is better” idiocy.

I hope President Obama was paying attention to his predecessor’s advice.

  24. lonestar77 Says:

People aren’t buying what the democrats are selling and it’s not because of the way they’re selling it. The average person isn’t as dumb as the left would have us believe. If we only sold it better…

  25. You are ignoring my point to make a different one. Whether you think a better sell job would have helped or not does not change the fact that the Obama Administration is crap at it.

  26. Ed Schultz is eliminating the middle man. He called the Republicans “bastards”, then apologized for it before the segment was over..and before Phil Griffin called him in..

  27. lonestar77 Says:

I get your point Joe, I’m just sick of hearing it being used (not necessarily by you) as the primary reason that most Americans didn’t like the heaping pile poop dumped on them the last couple of years.

  28. I skipped the Boehnor moment today, so missed this: While Crybaby was trying to keep his cookies together, Crazy Eyes was commenting that he requested an especially large gavel. What?

  29. In parliamentary bodies around the world, the one with the title of ‘Speaker” is also the one who’s generally not allowed to speak. I didn’t care for this ceremony much, either, but had to be proud as an American with the peaceful change in power and Leader Pelosi’s, “God bless you Speaker Boehner.”

  30. Oh, “corrupt” doesn’t mean “criminal”..it’s like “corrupted file”. Sure Darrell, it’s CNN’s fault. Liar.

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rep-darrell-issa-cnn-doesnt-understand-the-meaning-of-the-word-corrupt/

  31. Hmmmmm… Ok, technically Rep. Issa is correct but I agree with Joe.

  32. I was beginning to think that Issa would be Obama’s Bob Barr. Barr started talking ‘impeachment’ shortly after the ’96 election, before the stuff hit the…fan.

  33. I’ll have to look for this tomorrow and maybe re-post it ’cause it’s late now, but, Lawrence O’Donnell had a fascinating conversation with Tea Party kook Allen West. West bashed the President for flying in under cover of night to visit the troops in Afghansitan, stating that a “real leader would go to the front”. LOD reminded him three ways to Sunday that that’s the way it’s always been, because risking the life of the Leader Of The Free World is not a brilliant move. He tried to get West to admit what he’s asking has never been done in his lifetime.

West shrugged his shoulders, Larry said “I accept that as your apology”, and West said “good to talk to you”. To turn his words about Obama on himself..Allan West is the dumbest person walking arund in America.

  34. Has anyone ever seen Dick Morris’ wife? So many questions on that one.
