Maybe someone from the “industry” could answer this: Why is it that FNC cannot schedule its weekend programming in advance, or at least keep some of its regular programs in a regular timeslot? It seems that whatever shows up on the on-screen program guide is rarely valid. I totally missed the WSJ and Fox News Watch programs this weekend, although I did see them air at about 6 p.m. yesterday as I was on my way out. I guess Red Eye on weekends is now a thing of the past; they instead air Judge Janine and Huckabee CONSTANTLY throughout the early morning hours, except when the put in a 20 year old documentary.
I can see that “breaking news changes everything”, but what about what breaking news is not the issue?
I agree with you, missy. Yesterday on my on-screen guide, FNC had their regular programming, even though they covered the Reagan Centennial for two hours. Only CNN had CENTENNIAL on-screen. CNN is much better at updating their schedule guides.
Something’s up with Tamron Hall. She looked stressed at the start of her program today. I noticed it a clouple times last week, too. I don’t miss “giggly Tamron”, but this version is worrying.
He didn’t jump it. He grabbed it out of the water and started eating it.
Because it was, y’know, a progressive shark. Or something.
He’s beyond silly.
For those not following him, the best I can tell is that he thinks the upheaval in Egypt is the result of anti-US leftwing groups aligning themselves with the Islamists.
Sure, the radical left is anti-American. And they’ve been working with radical Islamic groups throughout the world. Certainly in Europe. The old green-red alliance.
But to ascribe the events in Egypt to that “movement” is risible.
Time to go Glenn. You and Keith have a good old time.
Steve, I have been following this..and it’s bizarre. He tells you things that make no freaking sense, then says “do your own research”. I have, Glenn. my research reveals that there’s a large group of people who believe this crap: You, and your zealots.
Maybe Glenn Beck is doing some kind of Joaquin Phoenix thing were he acts all weird and then reveals that he’s making a documentary that’s really a satire about society. Or something like that. Sometimes Beck makes sense. Other times I think he needs to stop.
I actually think he’s somewhat right about some connections between the far far far far far far far left and radical Islam. But that’s not even a large enough group of people to merit talking about it for two weeks straight.
Until he can prove that George Soros and Osama bin Laden are in fact the same person, he needs to go back to being Sean Hannity with a sense of humor.
What GB is doing right now would be like Ed Schultz talking about how the far far far far far far far far right is connected to Neo Nazis. Okay, we get it, but what’s the point. I honestly don’t get offended when people compare conservatives to nazis, because I know it isnt true. So to all my left-of-center friends: Just ignore GB because he really isn’t making any sense.
What GB is doing right now would be like Ed Schultz talking about how the far far far far far far far far right is connected to Neo N@zis. Okay, we get it, but what’s the point. I honestly don’t get offended when people compare conservatives to n@zis, because I know it isnt true. So to all my left-of-center friends: Just ignore GB because he really isn’t making any sense.
There is NO connection between the American Left and a bunch of Egyptians sick of dictatorship. NONE. Now Bill Kristol is punching at Beck, and Beck is punching back. How long are Murdoch and Ailes gonna put up with THAT?
My main point is that people need to stop freaking out every time Beck links the left to terrorists. He isn’t saying all liberals support bin Laden.
Anyway, a more effective strategy would be to organize and boycott Fox News. Write angry letters to Roger Ailes. But b*tching about it on a blog isn’t going to change a thing. Besides, his ratings have declined a lot and if this caliphate crap doesn’t boost his ratings, hopefully he’ll drop all this nonsense.
There is NO connection between the American Left and a bunch of Egyptians sick of dictatorship.
Well, Beck is referring to the international radical, far left – ANSWER and other fringe groups. A few very small groups here in the US.
They have as much influence on public policy as we posting here do. Probably less.
But they’re not “the left” any more than the radical militia types are “the right.” They may on the left but they’re not of the left.
I used to listen to Beck on the radio about 6-7 years ago when I would travel to visit my now late father on weekends. Beck was funny and goofy and only rarely would he talk about politics. Pretty enjoyable.
“How long are Murdoch and Ailes gonna put up with THAT?”
^I think that may be the relevant point, Joe.
Beck spouting nonsense that even conservatives find embarrassing is one thing, but going off message and not delivering the Republican talking points may be his downfall.
, but going off message and not delivering the Republican talking points may be his downfall
That’s not a good point, Fritz. I know many of you folks on the left think Fox is nothing more than an adjunct of the RNC and takes it orders from them. But the evidence is otherwise.
Beck has always challenged the establishment Republican viewpoint. He’s done that from Day One.
And Hannity blasted Bush on the port deals and deficits and other matters.
So did O’Reilly on immigration and Iraq.
They have hardly been water carriers for the party.
Speaking of jumping and eating the shark, it really is time for the media to stop noting every confusing mishmash that falls from Sarah Palin’s mouth. Her comments in the aftermath of the Tucson tragedy were newsworthy. But today, Mediaite, AOLingtonPost and MSNBC are all over some silliness she babbled about Egypt to CBN. It’s. Not. News.
“I know many of you folks on the left think Fox is nothing more than an adjunct of the RNC and takes it orders from them. But the evidence is otherwise.”
Steve: did you miss the many discussions of the Bill Sammon emails and the recent Roger Ailes interviews?
It’s pretty cut and dried by now that Ailes, Sammon & probably others instruct their on air talent on which stories to cover how to characterize the stories so as to help the Republican Party.
I think Beck is talking about a worst case scenario. He needs to make that more clear. It seems like he’s predicting certain doom. I don’t know. I talked about this for 30 minutes of my internet talk show and I still don’t know what to think.
Chrissy is using Palin for ratings just as egregiously as FNC at this point. A Comtemporary Christian Singer clone yakking about Egypt to CBN is about as relevant as Amy Grant doing it. Except Amy would read up first.
Well, somebody mentioned elsewhere – correctly – that the domain names: “keitholbermannshow.com” and “thekeitholbermannshow.com” were registered by proxy two days before he left.
Hmm, proxy? Two days before he left/quit/was fired?
As does LOD, who just showed endless reams of the CBN interview. Yes, my little lefty friends..she’s pretty, and she’s says silly stuff that’s easy to ridicule. Can we please move along for a while..at least until she does somrthing other than look pretty for money?
O’Reilly showed a clip of Mika who this morning was showing a clip on MJ of O’Reilly asking President Obama why some people hate him. She indignantly asked the MJ panel, Do you think he would have asked such a question of GWB? Immediately O’Reilly showed a clip from last year of him asking GWB why he was so hated. O’Reilly said MSNBC must have missed that interview. I’m sure Mika will correct tomorrow morning.
Now we have Ed Schultz railing against Glenn Beck. Look, MSNBC is supposed to be The Voice Of The Left; the alternative to FNC’s right-wing POV. It’s one thing for a bozo like myself to b!tch about Palin and Beck and such on a blog. But MSNBC commentators are preaching to the choir about this stuff when they should be expressing our stuff. I’m getting a little tired of spending half my nights listening to what they’re doing. I have Fox News for that.
The live interview was ok – I thought they both did well, but O’Reilly seemed a little nervous and quick to jump – but the taped part shown on The Factor tonight was much better. Bill seemed to relax a bit and let the President answer, only cutting him off when it was obvious Obama was headed towards “let’s talk all night” mode.
My overall impression – which I’ve noticed since their first sitdown together – is of two powerful, confident men, enjoying a lively meeting of the minds between people who respect each others’ intellect.
I feel sorry for any fans of either looking for a “win”. Any confrontation between Barack Obama and Bill O’Reilly makes both of them look formidable.
But my favorite part – the part that must drive the True Believers crazy – is they obviously like each other. They’re the classic example of Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill having a drink together at the end of the day: Sparring like hell, then having a hearty laugh about it.
“But my favorite part – the part that must drive the True Believers crazy – is they obviously like each other.” – joeremi
True. In fact, on tonight’s show O’Reilly read a slew of letters from “right-wing Kool-Aid drinkers” (as he referred to them) who thought O’Reilly asked too many soft-ball questions.
The one thing I really dig about this interview is that Bill drew out the reality of how nuts it must be to be the Leader Of The Free World. I can’t remember another Presidential interview in which that “distance” was bridged. He may not have intended it, but O’Reilly humanized Obama in a way a Believer never could have.
With all the new-found regard for Ronald Reagan amongst media-types, it’s interesting to read what the actually said about him at the time. The ‘Chris Matthews’-version of Reagan’s relationship with Tippy just might be mythical as well.
Tip O’ Neill (the powerful Speaker of the House) said Reagan’s mind was “an absolute and total disgrace” and that it was “sinful that this man is President of the United States.” Steven Hayward reminds us in his recent “Reagan Reclaimed” column that O’Neill said that “the evil is on the White House at the present time. And that evil is a man who has no care and no concern for the working class of America and the future generations of America, and who likes to ride a horse. He’s cold. He’s mean. He’s got ice water for blood.”
Wow. I’m three hours behind you guys, watching the late-night re-airs of Fox News. After the excellent discussion on The Factor, now Hannity starts with Dick Morris, then a Frank Luntz focus group who believes Obama is a Muslim. Gimme a break.
Even though I’m a Conservative of good standing I just has to say..I’m tired of Beck’s gloom and a doom reporting…I just can’t watch that crap any more…the far Left is too messed up to be able to pull off a world takeover like he’s predicting.
I also have a feeling that FOX may have to pull him aside and tell him to cool it..as pointed out his ratings have slid a bit and his current rants may have a lot to do with it.
At the same time Mad Ed at him only helps Beck and really has any MSNBC attacks on FOX actually helped them at all?
Quick comment this morning – boy am I glad I don’t watch Beck or Hannity. Sounds like my cleaning bathrooms or doing laundry are the better choices.
I really like the Eminem commercial, too. Only one of the group at my house that like it though. I like to think I was the only “hip” one there because most didn’t know who he was!
Lastly, Morning Joe this morning had Bill Kristol on, and John Halperin was an a** to him. Bill got in a few digs about being on Fox where they are fair and balanced. Joe then answered that they don’t allow more than one conservative on the set other than him at a time. During the next segment they had Bill sit next to John H. when Steny Hoyer came on. Bill’s body language said it all about where he was sitting. But then, as the discussion was going on with Joe, Mika, Bill & John, Steny made a comment to the affect -”hey guys – I’m over here”. Guess he is not used to being ignored! Quite a few fun minutes this morning!
So O’Reilly interviewed the POTUS. End of story? NO WAY! The Factor, Greta and even Hannity had to disect the interview ad nauseum all night.
(BTW, I believe that is the first time Hannity has EVER mentioned BOR or referred to any of his work. Maybe the Fox higher ups made him do so?)
Anyway, O’Reilly did NOT do such a great job, contrary to what he thinks. In general, all he had to do was to bring up 0bama’s rhetoric, and ask why his actions and legislation he advocates do not match.
Re: Luntz’s focus group. I had to go back a few frames to see that it was a REPUBLICAN group, not a focus group of the population in general. That’s why they all responded as they did.
Too bad – I thought the population in general was just wising up!

I though it was weird that FNC aired a new Fox Report at 10 pm eastern in Geraldo’s slot. It was probably a one-time thing.
February 7, 2011 at 11:09 am
I agree with you, missy. Yesterday on my on-screen guide, FNC had their regular programming, even though they covered the Reagan Centennial for two hours. Only CNN had CENTENNIAL on-screen. CNN is much better at updating their schedule guides.

Fox Report got a late edition after the game for the Obama interview rebroadcast, and Roberts’ interview with the Fox guys who got beaten in Egypt.
But yeah, their weekend evening lineup is a constantly changing mess. Why run Huckabee four times?
February 7, 2011 at 11:44 am
And Chris Wallace covers the Super Bowl. WTF?

^ She was reading news on NBC’s Today on Saturday morning so maybe she’s trying to change her image to a more serious host. Just a guess.
February 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm
^ It may have been Sunday; I was just flicking around and was surprised to see her on the mothership.
February 7, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Still no sign of Martin Bashir on MSNBC. Definitely something odd going on here.
February 7, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Olbermann will announce where he goes from here tomorrow. Any guesses what he does?

Fritz, did you watch O’Reilly and Hannity et al. criticize Bush and the establishment Republicans for their policies?
Sammon might, and does, have influence over some of the reporters but not over the O’Reillys and Hannities.
You guys on the left sometimes sound like Beck with these conspiracies about the right. The Koch brothers and this and some other stuff.
The world isn’t that simple.
February 7, 2011 at 5:36 pm
So, Olbermann goes to that new Huffpo/AOL thing?
Must be.
Arianna loves him, dahling.
She also says she abhors ugly political rhetoric.
No, that doesn’t make sense but she’s got about $315 million more than I do.
Give or take a few thousand.
February 7, 2011 at 5:41 pm
So now, Chris Matthews is jumping on Sarah Palin for criticizing Obama without offering any specifics of her own.
Chris: meet the Obama 2008 campaign!
February 7, 2011 at 5:53 pm
That’s a pretty good guess Steve.
He could also go the Tucker Carlson route and start his own blog but when you see how that worked out for TC I doubt that’s what he will do.
Another option is a radio show or an online TV gig like ‘The Young Turks’.
My guess something to do with sports or maybe a slot on ‘The Daily Beast’; ‘Huffington Post’ is just too obvious.
February 7, 2011 at 6:15 pm
Chrissy is using Palin for ratings just as egregiously as FNC at this point. A Comtemporary Christian Singer clone yakking about Egypt to CBN is about as relevant as Amy Grant doing it. Except Amy would read up first.

We Might Have To Watch Hannity Alert: Gutfeld will be on The Great Great American Panel Of America In America. Hopefully he won’t forget the words.
February 7, 2011 at 7:31 pm
Hannity interviews Rumsfeld! Let’s all sit back while Joe bursts into flames..

NY Times reports that Keith Olbermann will be going to Al Gore’s “Current TV” network. Both parties were asked about it and both decline to comment.
A non-denial denial.
That’s a mighty fall.
I blame global warming for Keith’s demise.
February 7, 2011 at 7:35 pm
What the hell was that Frank Luntz segment on Hannity about?
That ‘focus group’ of Iowa caucus voters was just weird. Heck they all sounded like Glenn Beck viewers from Steve King’s district.
They were so over the top Hannity had to come to Obama’s defense and argue the POTUS was a Christian. Bazaar!
It sounded like something from the ‘Fireside Theatre’ – “How can you be two places at once when your not anywhere at all?”
I can’t wait to get John Stewart’s take.
February 7, 2011 at 7:38 pm
And I really wish Mika would PLEASE drop the “what about back in the day” stuff on MJ. O’Reilly’s interview yesterday was with Obama, not with GWB.
February 7, 2011 at 7:50 pm
Thank you Greg Gutfeld! Nailed Hannity for making fun of the Super Bowl menu. Sean would have carped no matter what was on the menu.
February 7, 2011 at 7:58 pm
‘A hybrid Escalade is like eating diet Scrapple’. Gotta love this guy.
February 7, 2011 at 8:02 pm

Carol: Well played.

”Hannity & Colmes, starring two completely different people!”
And more Super Bowl ads.

The Eminem Chrysler ad was great. “Imported from Detroit”. That was cool.

- wising up -
If you think “wising up” constitutes believing Obama is Muslim, well..
