Blog Modifications…

In case you haven’t noticed already, the blog is changing a bit. After my last trip ended I decided it was time to spend more time job searching and less time blogging…at least during the daytime hours. So M-Fr blogging will be mostly early mornings PST and evenings/night time PST. This will be more or less the permanent operating style for me going forward since when I do land a job I won’t be able to blog during the day anyways.

  1. Guess we were so thrilled to have you back that it wasn’t that noticeable, particularly given family responsibilities.

  2. As long as there’s a free-for-all, I think we’ll be content. Good luck with the job search. Just don’t bail on us like you did with ICN 1.0. I nearly cried when that happened.

    What he said.

  4. Just don’t bail on us like you did with ICN 1.0.

Dude..don’t even say that. I wasn’t here back then; I doubt I would have taken it well..

    ^ Why’s that, Joe?

You seem to be quite comfortable elsewhere. Why put on a sham persona here, only to reveal yourself there?

  6. I’ve revealed myself plenty here. I think Sarah Palin is a mean, lazy little b!tch who doesn’t know when to shut up. Everyone here knows that. The topic at Mediaite is Matthews and his criticisms of Beck, Newt and Palin. We’re not talking about that here, and I’m not gonna start.

  7. Btw, if you ever interrupt a nice conversation about how much we appreciate Spud and his blog with some crap from another blog again..it won’t end well.

  8. This thread could use a little scrubbing. A discussion from another blog got dragged over here, and I responded. I shouldn’t have.

  9. Wishing you success with your job search.

Yes, Spud bailed on us at 1.0, and Terance was nice enough to establish another site for a while. Even we don’t agree on things, that was a wonderful gesture on Terance’s part.

Just give us the “free for all” if you can each day, Spud, but anything else would be greatly appreciated.

    Joe… I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about. :)

  12. Missy, I was clearly out of my mind at that point in time. On a side note: I don’t even post on TVN anymore because of the off topic crap.. Just scan what the editor(s) post.

Btw, does Johnny Dollar’s place have a real comment section yet? Last time I checked it showed up in a pop up which turned me away.

  13. Blue, I freaking hate that I replied to you. You rarely post here anymore, then come over to bust my chops about somthing completely unrelated to the topic at hand..and I jumped. I need to remember..don’t feed the troll.

  14. – ..don’t feed the troll. –

    ..only the cute ones.

  15. I don’t mean to pry too much into your personal business, but back when Brian left TVNewser, I seconded Safran or Cory’s nomination of you for his replacement and because you had more experience running a pure media blog, plus I assumed you would’ve gotten Brian’s endorsement — didn’t he chime-in on that thread and call you an excellent choice — I figured you were a shoo-in, so I didn’t put my name in the hat.

Then, when Steve and Glynnis both left Mediaite around the same time, I contemplated submitting some old links, but for reasons of my own, I decided that their TV position(s) weren’t for me. (Though, I have considered suggesting myself for another title, but that’s different story)

Which brings me around to asking… perhaps your reason for not applying to Mediaite are similar to mine, but out of curiosity, I wonder if you ever put in for the TVNewser gig?

  16. No I didn’t put in officially for either TVN nor Mediaite. That doesn’t mean the subject didn’t come up in one form or another with elements of both. Nor does it mean I haven’t received feelers from other sites/entitites.

The are fundamental hurdles for me for taking what up until now has been a hobby bordering on an obsession into the world of a paid career. The number 1 stumbling block is geographical. I’m on the West Coast. Everything happens on the East Coast…NYC to be specific. I would have to move. I couldn’t work full time for either Mediaite or TVN and do so effectively from here. You have to be at the action…to mix with the players…to go to the pressers and media events. True, there’s something to be said for being detached from that three ring circus and the fresh look at the industry that gives me. But taking on a paid job means taking my game to the next level and that means joining the pack.

There are other obstacles that I see but they aren’t nearly as problematic as my location. I’m still a California native at heart. Everything that drives me…that fulfills me, except cable news, lies on the West Coast or the Pacific Ocean.

And then there’s the issue of taking something you enjoy doing and making it a job. Most people say your job should be something you enjoy doing. But not everything one enjoys doing translates well into a job. What I mean is sometimes what you enjoy doing as a hobby no longer becomes enjoyable when it becomes work…work with responsibilities and demands that a mere hobby does not have. I fear that cable news coverage may fall into this category.

  17. So, basically we’ve both considered some of the same positions over the years, but for one reason or another, neither of us have chosen to pursue.

Thanks for the response and good luck with the job search.
