Get Phil Keating…
This isn’t the first time that a negative piece on Phil Keating has leaked out. Today FTVLive has the dirt…
In fact, sources within Fox News confirmed to FTVLive that Keating’s assignments have been drastically reduced after covering the oil spill last Spring. Said one insider, “He was way out of his element covering a prolonged major news story like that even if he was one of many reporters down there – someone in New York finally figured out that he has no depth and is weak in the field on top of it.”
Why would Keating want to work at FNC anymore? You know the saying “with friends like these…”?
February 16, 2011 at 10:01 am
FNC’s PR department is nothing but a bunch of trashy cowards. And seeing that PR takes their orders from the top..
February 16, 2011 at 10:16 am
The FNC PR department needs a major revamping, terance pretty much summed it up.

You know, I’m an avid TV news junkie, watch plenty of Fox, MSNBC, little CNN. I have NO idea who Phil Keating is.
February 16, 2011 at 10:44 am
He’s the surfer-dude-guy with the wind-styled-hair.
February 16, 2011 at 11:03 am
Aah, so he’s the women’s version of Fox Babe. I don’t know who he is either. Of course Laura does..
February 16, 2011 at 11:05 am
He reminds me of a paramedic I used to work with. ‘Laid back’ was an understatement.
February 16, 2011 at 11:11 am
Gosh, that’s why I like this thread. Hear things lying low.
February 16, 2011 at 11:19 am
I like to think of myself as a color-commentator. Your assessment may vary.
February 16, 2011 at 12:25 pm
Gee, I know I don’t watch a lot of FNC; but like jwe & joe I’ve never heard of this guy either.
From the story and comments here he sounds a lot like the ‘Dude’ from The Big Lebowski.
February 16, 2011 at 12:44 pm
Gotta say – one of the better looking field reporters for Fox. You always know that he has on a pair of shorts and flip flops along with the sport coat.
Guess I don’t mind his reporting he just doesn’t report his stories with the seriousness of say a Mike Emanuel, Carl Cameron or Jim Angle. He reminds me more of a James Rosen. he does a good job reporting but you just know if you give him any leeway he could go off on a humorous tangent.
February 16, 2011 at 12:45 pm
Dan Abrams like Keating. I remember him talking about his favorite people at Fox and Keating was mentioned.
Phil used to be a reporter for Geraldo At Large when it was in syndication. I tend to think that “on the scene” stuff isn’t his forte.
February 16, 2011 at 1:24 pm
Bad news for Phil. If the people who comment on this blog have never heard of you, you’re in trouble. Clearly you’re not a memorable personality, and if that’s the case, you’re not going to have much of a career on TV. So long Phil, we hardly knew ye (literally).
February 16, 2011 at 1:35 pm
JWE: Look at the thread. The guys don’t rememember him. Pam and Laura..
February 16, 2011 at 1:56 pm
I remember him, only because I pride myself on remembering everyone that works in cable news. Just like a pride myself in knowing which shows come from which studios and so on. I’m weird like that.
February 16, 2011 at 2:04 pm
^ That’s right, you’re the crazy “knows all the studios” guy. Works for me..every time I start thinkin’ I’m kinda obsessive, I just remember, “Well, I’m not as bad as that guy..”

Like the other women here, I know who he is. I always thought his job was basically to cover weird local news from Florida. And there’s lots of that, but I guess he wouldn’t be on the air too much when there’s serious international crisis type of news happening.
Anyway, reading the article.. Um, having “no depth” doesn’t really seem like a disqualification for being a correspondent or on-air personality on cable news? I’m not picking on Fox in particular for this, it’s my impression that every cable news network has room for people who are cut out for local stories and celebrity stories and occasional goofy stories, but who are not cut out for covering a crisis situation. I think Keating is good at what he does and don’t see the problem; it’s pretty rare that the news day doesn’t have airtime for the kinds of stories he covers.
February 16, 2011 at 4:43 pm
Like the other women here
“Al in DC” is “Ali n DC”? Well..
February 16, 2011 at 4:45 pm
“his job was basically to cover weird local news from Florida.”
Florida is the world headquarters for weird local news stories. Does he do the New Years eve drag queen in a shoe drop story or is that story only done on CNN?
February 16, 2011 at 4:56 pm
It’s initials actually. I didn’t really think about it at the time.
Florida has the best weird news ever, I figured FNC had to have a full time correspondent just for that.
February 16, 2011 at 8:02 pm
It’s his hair, and the fact that he doesn’t wear a tie, that make him look like a “surfer dude” reporter. His reporting sounds just the same as that of any other reporter.
BTW, for those of you who may be concerned about poor me, my hair is FINALLY starting to look a little less like Keating’s. But I am still p*ssed and about the haircut and will not go back there. EVER!
February 16, 2011 at 8:09 pm
FINALLY, an update on The Missy Hair Crisis. I was worried sick..
February 16, 2011 at 8:11 pm
^ Yes. Sick. I can vouch.
February 16, 2011 at 8:14 pm
I just KNEW you guys were concerned!
February 16, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Let the record show that Missy waited ’til the 20th comment to change the subject to something she cares about. I’m impressed!
February 16, 2011 at 11:02 pm
keating isn’t exactly new there. so wouldn’t the problem be more with their own assessment of their on air talent as opposed to the talent’s job reporting on a story? they should have known by now that he was in over his head in doing that job and the fact that they didn’t was kind of sad.
now that i’m done slightly defending the guy, keating is still a tool.
February 17, 2011 at 7:43 am
Joe, if you saw my hair, it would be hard NOT to tie me in with Phil Keating.
I really haven’t observed much as of late, re: cable news, that I feel like talking about. But one thing was funny this week – O’Reilly came up with the brainstorm of reverting the current budget back to 2008 levels. And when Mary Katherine Ham advised him that Paul Ryan et al had proposed that very same idea, he was in shock! But no problem – he proceeded with the conversation as if the idea was extremely unique and unprecedented in concept, and how great it was that he thought of it!
He must not watch his own network, because they’ve been talking about the Paul Ryan/Republican idea for weeks!
February 17, 2011 at 9:15 am
Ha! That’s cute, Missy. I totally believe Bill doesn’t watch anything else during the week. He shows up; forgets Bret Baier’s name;tapes his show; and he’s outta Fox World.
February 17, 2011 at 11:04 am
Bill rarely goes on other Fox shows but other Fox people show up on his show. Must be nice to be king.
February 17, 2011 at 11:30 am
You have an audience with him, not the other way around.
