Going to Wisconsin to join the rallies?
February 19, 2011 at 2:12 pm
I’m pretty bummed out. I was at CPAC last week and didn’t get to meet Greg Gutfeld, Andy Levy, and Bill Schulz. Although I did get to meet S.E. Cupp, and I think she’s worth three guys.

bigred08: just got back from the rallies! It was great!
February 19, 2011 at 4:00 pm
I’m impressed with you two! A CPAC attendee and another out in the field to counter the “rent a mob”.
My day: Aldi’s and the pet food store, and now off to the gym.

I forgot – I hope Spud’s dad is OK.

Not that I think he has some great talent, but there may be some race fans around here.

Hey Pam, did you get joe the plumbers autograph?

Isn’t breathing the same air sufficient? (shudder)

Ex-FNCer Major Garrett is going to be a guest on Red Eye this Monday (well, really Tuesday morning). And in studio.
February 19, 2011 at 5:26 pm
No autograph – was busy confronting teachers who were getting excuses from doctors who said the teachers who were protesting they were sick!

Thanks to Laura’s kid for the Dale Earnhardt tribute. It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. I taped the race that morning, then stayed away from news so I wouldn’t find out who won. I played the tape, jumped and cheered for Michael Waltrip winning his first race in his first try in his new Dale Earnhardt-owned race team..then called my brother to have a little race chat.
I said, “Can you believe it?”, and in an oddly somber tone, he said, “No I can’t”. I didn’t really catch on, and started yammering about Mikey winning his first race at the Daytona 500, and he finally cut me off and said, “You don’t know, do you?” “Know what?” “He’s dead.”
The words made absolutely no sense to me. It’s hard to explain to non-fans why it was this way, but in the dangerous world of auto racing, Dale Earnhardt was invincible. He wasn’t like the others. The concept of him dying in a race car literally never occured to any of us. Ask a thousand NASCAR people, and you’ll hear the same thing. I said to my brother, “You’re telling me Dale Earnhardt is dead?” Then I lost it. It was a bad day.
Thanks for listening.

FNC reporting on the false “im sick” excuses from the doctors; is anyone else reporting it?
These teachers, and those who support them, are teaching the kids to lie, cheat and steal…the left must be so proud. This is “democracy in action” according to Queen Pelosi and hehimself.
I’m sure P/S, Piers, Dianne, Katie, George and Brian will be all over this story! HA
February 20, 2011 at 8:38 am
I remember where I was when I heard the news about Dale Earnhardt. I didn’t see the race because of some cub scout pool party. On the way home a guy on radio said reports indicated that Earnhardt was dead. None of us believed it.

Tina…absolutely agree. Guess I shouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the story from the “mainstream” media.
Also…when will Chris Matthews report on some of the Wisconsin protestors who compared the Governor with the 3rd Reich???
Unfortunately, Chris Matthews & objectivity should never be included in the same sentence.
February 20, 2011 at 1:27 pm
I amazes me how commentors can question the “obectivity” of TV commentators. Are you saying your opinion is objective, but Matthews’ isn’t? Explain how that works.
February 20, 2011 at 1:54 pm
Hell has frozen over!
From Joe Klein (yes, THAT Joe Klein):

February 20, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Joe, I think the point they are making is that Chris Matthews isn’t being fair. You can be fair without being objective (I think O’Reilly would qualify). Chris is neither, but he used to be fair.
February 20, 2011 at 2:42 pm
Righties have no place calling Chris “unfair” because he’s ignoring the ugly signs. The right did the same thing for Tea Party rallies, only mentioning it in response to complaints, and claiming it’s just a few bad apples. Both sides play the same games.
February 20, 2011 at 2:55 pm
Joe…the difference between Tea Party members & Chris Matthews hosts a national daily show. In addition, CM has recently been calling for more “civil discourse” between Republicans & Democrats. He “railed” for many months about how Tea Party members were “raci$ts”.
However, when there is clear evidence the protestors in Wisconsin are using hateful/disgraceful rhetoric against the new governor, CM is “eearily quiet”.
February 20, 2011 at 3:57 pm
– Both sides play the same games. –
Bullcrap. One side, aided by the press, tries to paint an entire movement as racist and violent. When elements of the ‘other’ side have documented acts, they choose to ignore it.
February 20, 2011 at 4:05 pm
^Laura’s teachable moment.
The double standard is amazing.
I do love the “Fox is a disgrace” when they’re caught (and they are often guilty, to be sure) and then the subsequent, “Everybody in the media does it” when the non-Fox media is caught.
February 20, 2011 at 4:06 pm
I thought Joe Klein was a liberal. He makes entirely too much sense.
February 20, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Righties have no place calling Chris “unfair” because he’s ignoring the ugly signs.
Do lefties think he’s unfair?

Do lefties think he’s unfair?
He goes off the deep end on a regular basis, but Fox fans have no business busting on him about nasty signs. The only attention Fox ever gave to tea Party signs was to pretend they were a minor annoyance. You guys can’t play along with that meme, then have a fit because libs aren’t talking about the ones in Wisconsin.
February 20, 2011 at 4:28 pm
Weird race, but a fairy tale ending. Kid didn’t even know where Winner’s Circle was.
February 20, 2011 at 4:33 pm

Joe, you simply can’t complain about Fox News and then turn around and say, “Everybody in the media does it” when it doesn’t involve Fox.
And, from what I can tell, no one here either works for Fox or defends everything they do.
You want to make this a political debate when it should be a discussion about news reporting and fair coverage.
That’s the issue.
February 20, 2011 at 4:36 pm
You can’t b/tch about Fox ‘bias’, then ignore it everywhere else. There’s no point discussing any of it, when a HUGE aspect is just conveniently ignored, because you agree with it.
February 20, 2011 at 4:39 pm
I’m addressing the specific issue. The right pretended nasty signs at Tea Party rallies were a minor issue, and now I have to put up with Matthews being called unfair for playing the same game. Nope. The reality is, Tea Party rallies and union protests both have nasty elements in them. It’s an old story.
February 20, 2011 at 4:41 pm
I can b/tch about Matthews being called “unfair” because he didn’t mention it. It’s just an excuse to bust on a lib they don’t like anyway.
February 20, 2011 at 4:44 pm
“However, when there is clear evidence the protestors in Wisconsin are using hateful/disgraceful rhetoric against the new governor, CM is “eearily quiet”.” – chipsohio
Howard Kurtz was quiet too on Reliable Sources this morning. Isn’t this show supposed to critique the media? I thought for sure there would be at least a few minutes showing the ugly signs of the union protesters in Wisconsin and compare the media non-outrage to the media’s outrage after Tucson and the tea party rallies.
February 20, 2011 at 4:45 pm
Then Matthews needs to shut the hell up about the Tea Party. He was a major part of the Tucson/Tea Party-blamers, and has no business ignoring the crap on his own side. He used to be somewhat fair. Maybe that’s the reason some don’t like him, and not just he’s a liberal. Don’t want to bring too much ‘nuance’ to the table on race day.
February 20, 2011 at 5:05 pm
I think bad signs at a protest have been around forever. I don’t like it, but the growth of these types of signs in the Tea Party movement as a national phenomenon was what raised alarms.
But I agree with Laura (what, you think I’m stupid?) that Matthews – of all people – probably should note the Wisconsin signs. This topic has morphed from Chris’ objectivity to a debate about signs, and I’m not keeping up well. Race day, dontcha know..

I’m sorry, I like boobs as much as the next guy (and some girls), but Harris Faulkner and her pushup bra look ridiculous on a news show. And why is she YELLING?
February 20, 2011 at 5:24 pm
Are you kidding me? Arizona is considering allowing students to carry concealed weapons to a classroom. That is obscene.
February 20, 2011 at 6:19 pm
Yes, Joe, Harris does look ridiculous. Especially when she goes to Julie B. for a news report. There is something horribly wrong when we have Harris as anchor, and Julie giving a few seconds doing a report.
Same w/the earlier program w/Jarrett and the blonde. Again, Julie is far superior to HER!
And I don’t believe anyone’s conjecture that Julie probably wants less air time to take care of her baby. I’d think it would take more time to travel to an area, gather facts and then write the story than it would to stay in the studio and anchor a newscast.
BRING BACK JULIE TO ANCHOR NOW!!!!!
February 20, 2011 at 6:32 pm
I was never a huge fan of Julie..until Harris showed up. I guess I hadn’t seen Faulkner’s work much, ’cause I’m surprised how freaking irritating she is. I got through half of Fox Report, then turned it. I got tired of being yelled at.
February 20, 2011 at 6:35 pm
Joe,
I’M SORRY YOU DON’T LIKE BEING YELLED AT! I WILL HAVE MEGYN CALL YOU TO DISCUSS.
February 20, 2011 at 6:38 pm
“A viewer. Doesn’t LIKE. Being. YELLED AT. I call him. The phone call you WON’T wanna miss. NEXT!”
February 20, 2011 at 6:39 pm
Hey Missy, if you’re in an area with a decent Fox affiliate then you’ll see Julie Banderas doing the national segments for their local news broadcasts afternoons/evenings during her shift. It’s what Harris Faulkner used to do. I’ve also heard her on the radio.
February 20, 2011 at 7:35 pm
There’s something you don’t see every day: Rick Leventhal showed up on (NewsCorp owned) Speed Channel to discuss the probable cancellation of the Formula One opener in Bahrain. Wind Tunnel host Dave Despain did a decent job of asking questions about the general political situation in the Middle East, too.
Racing and cable news in one spot. Pinch me.

I just watched the Lara Logan discussion on Reliable Sources, then read this. I’ve learned enough to know that there’s a lot I don’t know about this situation, so, presented without comment.
