Trish Regan Departs CNBC…

TVNewser’s Chris Ariens writes that CNBC’s Trish Regan has left the network. What’s odd is she just filled in at the Weekend Today newsdesk.

oh gee, I liked her reports if she’s the one who’s the done specials?

    Here’s her bio: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?hl=en&shva=1#contact/3dadac3e895349ee

  3. That marijuana doc she did was pretty good. The viewers liked it, although they may have been impaired when viewing it.

  4. ^ If we discounted all ratings based on viewer-impairment, the NFL and NASCAR would be cancelled forever.

So, “It was pretty good” means the documentary was good or the stuff was good?

Does anyone know where she’s going?

If she’s going to FBN, and Gasparino is there, and Lou is there, too. the only week link if Cavuto and Imus, so it becomes a must carry entity?
If you read Buttner’s bio she’s got some heavy duty stuff on her resume, too.
Cavuto’s pathetic “if you don’t get it” demand it hasn’t worked.

  6. Whitney, I’m not sure I understand your dislike for Cavuto. He’s one of the best business broadcasters out there in my opinion.

  7. Cavuto is a right wing hack!

  8. wheresthebeef09 Says:

Cavuto is an huge embarrassment. He’s annoying as hell, and he doesn’t hide his obvious right-wing bias at ALL. Absolutely worthless. He’s lucky he has a job at Fox (how, I don’t know)….but I highly doubt any other media outlet would employ him.
I don’t mean to be “rude”, but sometimes I wonder if Fox doesn’t let him go because they don’t want to be seen as the “bad guys” since he has MS and all.

  9. Wow, you guys are pretty mean. Cavuto is one of the best business anchors/commentators around, and I would also point out that Cavuto isn’t supposed to be a straight down the middle reporter so he has every right to be a right wing hack.

HE HAS A FREAKING COMMENTARY SEGMENT AT THE END OF HIS SHOW.

  10. Gotcher back on this one, Josh. I’m no fan of Cavuto’s Rich Boy’s Club mentality, but he’s clearly not running a non-opinion show. He’s a right wing hack for FNC/FBN. I’m pretty sure that was the idea.

  11. iraqwarveteran Says:

She’s definitely going to Fox. She belongs with her right wing/pro business/anti-worker buddies.

Just read her tweets the past month or so, you’ll understand what I mean when I call her rightwing.

  12. iraqwarveteran Says:

speaking of her marijuana documentaries, why didn’t any major news media to include Ms. Regan ever explain why prop 19 lost in California?

I know most people believe that it was cause their was a conservative movement this past election……nah, that’s not what happened.

If Ms. Regan or other media outlets knew anything about the marijuana industry here in California, they would have explained how odd it was that every county north of the Bay Area and Sacramento voted against this prop. Why would they do that if they are the counties that produce the marijuana? Hmmm, could it be that voting for the legalization would have been a vote against their own wallets? What…..are you saying Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties (known as the Emerald Triangle) all voted against legalization? YES!

Now if we take all the No votes from up north and all the conservative (inland) counties which voted No…..that’s how the proposition lost. But where was Ms. Regan to report this? Where was the mainstream media? Do they follow up anymore?

  13. whitneymuse Says:

I know it’s obvious about Cavuto…I just hate his clowning about FBN; if he’s the SR. VP for FBN it’s his responsiblity to get the channel to us.

So, I watch CNBC because that’s the only business channel that COX carries and I live with it.

And, I’ve never heard anything from Cavuto’s lips or mind that has been something of significance to me…

rather a diffuse argument, I stipulate; but it bends me around when he jokes about how it’s our responsibility to get his busineess channel on our cable lineup.

I want reach into my LCD screen and gab his chubby cheeks and yell at him, “DO YOUR JOB” …’
    That’s it in a nutshell…

I agree it’s trivial but he’s the Sr. VP of FNC at probably close to 7 figures / year and he needs to do his job.

Weak? but it drives me nuts…

  14. whitneymuse Says:

I’m a conservative person, poltically and fiscally, and i don’t see anything redeeming about Cavuto’s commentary at all.
Salute you standing up for him, but he’s got to do something else if he’s ever going to gain my respect or attention.

    I can’t stand Beck, either…he’s a fraud and a huckster.

    AND, I”M NOT opinionated, either….ha ha ha…

If you’re familiar with Debbie Schlussel’s blog she exposed (for me) Glenn Beck) Just got two books reently published about Glenn Beck…one of them is Indexed and has footnotes, too…WOW…:)
go ta used copy on amazon…”Common Sense” by Zeitchek (sic) not the Milbank screed. but i have that one too.

Don’t know when I’ll find time to read it; bought this new car and I’m playing these days…fhe world will just have to save itself without me. :)

  15. It’s pretty clear that Beck is a bonkers conspiracist..I’m not sure I’d want to read whole books about him..

  16. The bottom line is that Trish Regan is the diamond of the group. No matter how you feel about the marijuana issue it’s Trish that is the out standing anchor person. It’s CNBC that’s taking a loss here. Polished, pretty and professional is what the viewers want. And Trish consistently delivers…

  17. Am I the only one who noticed that the link up there goes to Gmail?

  18. Whitney’s got some learnin’ to do about links.

  19. No, I meant Spud’s link. The one that no one else seems to have checked.

  20. Um..Spud’s and Whitney’s links go to Gmail. Huh?

  21. Head, banging on keyboard. This link — https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox — the one that Spud posted.

  22. Hey, headbanger, I’m telling you, both links go to Gmail..the one in Spud’s main post, and the one in Whitney’s comment. Got it?

  23. I didn’t look at Whitney’s. For some strange reason..

  24. bushleaguer Says:

avrtony – I agree that losing Trish is a loss for CNBC, but I think that Erin Burnett is the best female anchor they have. Regan will probably get an offer from Bloomberg, but FBN will throw enough $$ and offer a prime slot for her to make the jump to Fox.

    On a side note – I’d trade 1 Trish for 10 Larry Kudlow’s.

  25. Bushleaguer – You are soooo correct about Larry kudlow!!!

  26. motownman Says:

    Recent CNBC mistakes:
    Letting Liz Claman go
    Keeping Bartiromo
    Letting Margaret Brennan go
Letting Trish go and keeping Francis
Thank God for Melissa Lee or else CNBC would be totally unwatchable.

  27. wheresthebeef09 Says:

I don’t know how much truth there is to this, but someone on the tvnewser page posted that Trish was very difficult to work with.

Not sure if its true, but it MAY make sense because I find it a bit odd that CNBC let Trish go so suddenly without a fight. As Spud pointed out, she was on this weekend, and now she’s gone? And Trish was featured (very briefly) in CNBC’s newest promos about the Japan coverage, so clearly this was a VERY, VERY last minute decision.

  28. whitneymuse Says:

Agree with Melissa Lee…wish I could understand the option trade better…get lost in that show sometimes, and I barely understand covered calls:)
It’s the straddles that drive me nutty. Notice my best friend Cavuto never dusts off the personality girl Liz Clayman so he can hog his show on FNC’s YOUR WOLD…what a terrible show title.
And, yes, I’m picking on him.
Don’t get me started on Beck, too….
Please don’t throw me into that briar (sic)patch…

I Agree with the folks on this thread that I’m missing stuff…Eye appointment tomorrow at 1:30 PM

Thanks for calling my attention to this.

  29. dwpender Says:

I’m glad to find some fellow Melissa Lee fans here. She is VERY hot as well as exceptionally able at what she does.

I like Trish, but it’s always been apparent she has a LOT of confidence. Just last week she was subbing on Kudlow’s 7 pm show. The subject was Wisconsin. Ed Rendell was one of the guests and he treated Trish with UTTER contempt (cutting her off as if she were a junior airhead with nothing to say). I would have expected a number of CNBC’s top, more sensitive, women — Becky, Mel Francis, even Erin — to wilt (their faces would show it) in the face of such dismissive treatment by a prominent public figure. Trish, on the other hand, was not only unphased, but seemed not even to pick up Rendell’s drift. She adopted the same vocal, lead, assertive approach that Kudlow himself does.

Hasn’t Trish actually been used a fair amount by the mother ship? I wouldn’t be surprised to see her move up the NBC chain.

    joeremi
I’m going to read them, because from the beginning I’ve had a sense he was a border fraud or charleton (sic) I’ve avoided that word because I’m too lazy to spell it correctly (sorry, folks)
that said, wanted to give him a fair shake before skewering his reputation; believe as a public figure I’m immune from liability, but truth is a complete defense.

Dana Milbank is a known Lefty bomb thrower (his book has no index)or footnotes.
Therefore my other choice sited above.

BTW, the most obnoxious commercial is the Nationwide with that jingle…..
    it was just on…

  31. DWpender – I definitely agree that Melissa Lee is a very able reporter. Both ladies are very fine to look at. The difference is the same difference between a 12 year old and an 18 year scotch. Trish is a little warmer and smoother, a bit more pleasant on the palette.

  32. whitneymuse Says:

What is fascinating to me is Lee’s ability to navigate the option jargon and actually make it sound like a buy and sell transaction…Options allow leveraging one’s small change into control of large bunches of equity positions. Ad into it the element of time of expiration that may be worthless at that time, too.
    It’s a huge puzzle.
I can only say I made money once because of that pesky element of time.
Either Melissa talks a geat game and does not ever purchase an option positioin or she’s a very wealthy woman with her CNBC anchor salary.
My guess she does not buy options.

  33. motownman Says:

This was several years ago, but I remember Sue Herera saying CNBC employees were not allowed to own or trade stocks, except for what was in the company 401K.

  34. It’s a fact that the show has suffered. It’s not the same. Trish was the real reporter and star of the show.
