Cenk Uygur’s ratings have not been very good of late. He is constantly being beat by ‘The Situation Room’ although other shows on MSNBC have mostly recovered from the big story ratings splurge that CNN has been having lately.
From what I’ve seen; and it’s not much; the show looks like a copy of what Ed’s show used to be when he was on at that time.
If his numbers don’t get better soon I wonder if he could get replaced by Jansing; as some have suggested she is being tested for an evening show.
Fritz, to add to that, Cenk doesn’t technically have his own show yet, as they have kept the “MSNBC Live” name since he started. If they really had faith in him, they would have given the show an original name.
They used to have “America at War with Lester Holt” and “The Situation with Tucker Carlson” on at 11pm. While I can’t stand Tucker (Tucker rhymes with ……), it was nice to have live coverage at 11pm EST. Lawrence O’Donnell needs to go back to 10pm.
MSNBC also needs a 5pm show. Having Hardball on twice in three hours has never made any sense, yet they’ve done this for years… it’s even worse now that Matthews has gone off the deep end.
Cenk Uygur’s delivery is pure awful. I enjoyed him on TYT but on MSNBC Live, not so much. I’d like to see MSNBC make some bold moves and bring Alyona Minkovski from RT America over to MSNBC… and I’d love to see Shuster and Ashleigh Banfield back at the network!
Missy, those are both original names that apply to Shep’s programs. If his programs were called “Fox News Live with Shepard Smith, and the other programs on Fox were called “Fox News Live,” then the name would be unoriginal.
Andrea Mitchell has her own show name. Cenk does not. Hence, why I think MSNBC management is looking to find a better permanent replacement for that slot.
Andy. Have you ever apologized for presenting a fake copy the Presidents Birth certificate to the readers of this blog on 3/28? I’m being kind in assuming you believed it was authentic but I suspect that you knew that it was bogus. In my book that’s unethical and cause for someone like me to point it out. There is always lively debate on this blog. Often people disagree passionately, but most liberals and most conservatives that I have read here have always corrected errors of fact and I don’t recall anyone (until now) flat out submitting fraudulent information. You know, credibility should counts for something!
From Fact check:
“The document is a “certification of birth,” also known as a short-form birth certificate. The long form is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents’ hometowns. The short form is printed by the state and draws from a database with fewer details. The Hawaii Department of Health’s birth record request form does not give the option to request a photocopy of your long-form birth certificate, but their short form has enough information to be acceptable to the State Department. We tried to ask the Hawaii DOH why they only offer the short form, among other questions, but they have not given a response. “
Fact This is not a copy of the original birth certificate. Furthermore the governor has stated that the state can not locate it.
Again, I reintegration my point made earlier. This should be handled in the courts ( I don’t think it’s been resolved) and what ever the final ruling is that will be constitutional process. Heaven forbid, it is negative for the president then there is one other final remedy/process for changing the constitution. It’s called amending it. Only then are we a nation of laws and not a nation of men or special circumstances.
BTW: fact check sure has allot of opinion mixed in with facts.
And No I did not get any of this from WND ( i don’t go there) I honestly don’t rely on others for my thoughts and opinions. Nice try.
In Hawaii, a birth certificate is called a “Certification of Live Birth” (as seen here).
Also, there’s the whole newspaper thing (I guess the newspaper is from the future and knew Obama would become President and, therefore, forged a birth announcement).
The Hawaii Department of Health, which says they have the original long form on record, is also in on the conspiracy as is Hawaii’s governor.
As a life-long conservative, I’m really tired of this “birther crap”. There are so many issues which conservatives can respectfully debate with the President (Health Care, Spending, Debt, Unemployment, Illegal Immigration/Border Security, etc…)
Unfortunately, there is a minority “birther conservative” crowd that refuses to let this issue die.
Debate the President/Democrats on legitimate topics. We’re better than that. jmho.
Unfortunately, there is a minority “birther conservative” crowd that refuses to let this issue die.
Unfortunately, there is a cable news network run by a former political strategist who learned the oppo game from Lee Atwater. Roger Ailes loves this stuff.
Joe if its a copy of the real ‘Birth Certificate” created at the time of birth I will certainly apologize. However you missed the point. The “Certificate of Birth’ In HI is not a copy of the actual original birth certificate. (miss spellings and all) It’s a form pulled from a computer data base. Heaven forbid we have fraud, similar to Andy saying his reproduction is an actual copy. That simply is not factual.!!!!
Look folks, I Wish he did produce an actual copy and all this would end. The President should request it. I don’t like doing this!!! However we must follow the rule of law and let the courts decide. That protects us. Always do the right thing, even if the results hurt short term. Long term everyone wins.
LOL, regarding HI statehood. When did that happen.
Off to a High School School play tonight!
PS: Chips, I don’t consider myself a Birther. I consider myself a law abiding citizen and regret that you resort to name calling.
LandJ: I never called you a birther. I’m just tired of the controversy regarding President Obama’s birth certificate.
I’m also a law abiding citizen. My understanding of the law is that since President Obama’s mom was a U.S. citizen, the President is also a U.S. citizen. We’re “never” going to get a clear resolution to this issue since his mother is no longer living.
Different states had/have different regulations requiring birth certificates. I just don’t see this as a big issue.
Now, if you want to talk about other topics (illegality of health care, border security, national debt/spending, unemployment) I’m willing to participate.
@chip 43% of conservatives believe Obama was not born in America… minority, yes, but it’s a large number still.
Why would anyone on the left want to put this to rest? The Republican Party is imploding quicker than Charlie Sheen, grasping at every conspiracy theory out there — likely because, when forced to debate Obama with facts, they get their clocks cleaned out (remember Baltimore last year?).
They’re scared because they know, on the issues, they lose every time. Every failed Obama policy has failed because he compromised with Republicans and gave in to their every demand (only for them to vote against it anyways). Stimulus, that was actually a George W. Bush creation. Health Care Reform, imported whole from Mitt Romney. Individual Mandate, Republican idea for over a decade and a half (they even campaigned on this). That and the Republicans, come 2012, will have to explain (since they’re SO concerned about the deficit and other issues) why they never did anything when they had power the first time and why the only agenda Republicans have had since taking power in states is: passing deficit-increasing tax cuts for the rich while increasing taxes on the poor, cutting teacher pay, eliminating unions and trying to end abortion. Nothing they’ve done anywhere addresses the deficit nor creates jobs.
The Tea Party is finding out that repeating Rush Limbaugh talking points does not translate in to policy. And teabaggers are finding out they were played by the same old Republican Party.
It’s freaking great, actually. I love sitting back here and telling everyone, “I told you so”.
@chip 43% of conservatives believe Obama was not born in America… minority, yes, but it’s a large number still.
Andy…please cite your source for the 43%.
He!!, most survey(s) contain flawed questions. As an example, if you ask most Americans, do you favor securing our national borders…the majority will say yes. However, if you ask the question, do you favor securing our national borders by deporting illegal immigrants…you’ll get a different response.
Different polling techniques will equal completely different results.
That being said, the President has been in office for over two (2) years and he’ll remain in office until January 2013 (if he loses or if he’s reelected).
Debate the President on areas where he’s weak…(Spending/Debt, Unemployment, & Border Security).
“A bare majority of Republicans, 52 percent, believe that President Obama was born in the U.S., with 43 percent saying that he was born elsewhere,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “By contrast, 11 percent of Democrats and 23 percent of independents say Obama was not born in the U.S.”
@chip: When the Republican Party has done nothing about unemployment in their states or in the House and when their record on spending says something different from their talking points, it’s hard to debate Obama on that.
They can’t debate Obama by saying “Reagan was great, you suck” (like they are right now) because they’ll get their ass kicked (especially because, by today’s standards, Reagan was a liberal “socialist” Democrat because he cut nukes and increased the deficit).
By dismissing cases “with prejudice”, the courts have already decided.
Try it this way:
If you were born a citizen of another country and had to go through the immigration process in order to become an American citizen, you are not a “natural born” American and, therefore, are ineligible for POTUS or VPOTUS. Governors Grandholm and Schwarzenegger are popular examples of this. For everyone else, though, citizenship is established simply by being born… these are “natural born” Americans.
The freakin’ birth certificate – whether it be a true copy, a fake copy, or even if the dumb thing never existed is entirely IRRELEVANT! Barack Obama’s mother was an American – Thus, Barack Obama is a natural born American.
Andy…quite frankly I don’t care about any state except for Ohio. We voted out the a$$es (Strickland & his cohorts) who keep/kept believing that spending your way to prosperity works. Unemployment surged during Strickland’s term & with his reckless spending, Strickland was a one term Governor. Add to a growing corruption crisis in Democrat controlled Cuyahoga county (Ohio’s largest county), Strickland didn’t have a chance.
With upcoming redistricting, Congressman Kucinich will be without a seat or he’ll have to run against a fellow Democrat. In addition, Senator Brown will be up for re-election & he’s about as popular as recycled toilet paper.
Suffice to say, Ohio will be a popular stopping point during next year’s election.
Andy…everyone (with the exception of Bill Gates & extremely wealthy individuals) must live within a budget. Why can’t our government live within its means?
The recent Congressional Budget Office report on waste proves there is room to cut. Unfortunately, we do not have the
I hate to butt in on this highly enlightened and entertaining discussion on the birthplace of the POTUS but I’ve been watching Hardball over the last few nights and have been very impressed with how Chuck Todd has been doing as a sub.
The shows format and the guests are about the same but the show is so much more watchable when guests are allowed to actually get out a sentence or two without being interrupted. I’m not sure if it’s that Matthews is that bad or Todd is that good; probably both; but I wish it could continue.
Rachael Maddow been doing a few stories recently on the BP oil disaster report’s analysis of the wells blowout preventer. the report concludes that even if the blowout preventer worked perfectly there was some chance it wouldn’t have prevented a well blowout.
This is somewhat disconcerting as the Obama administration is issuing permits for new deep water wells in the Gulf of Mexico almost every day now.
Maddow appears to be alone on the cable news nets in asking some pretty important questions on why this is occurring.
In short good reporting on an important story ‘that no one in cable news is covering’; as she likes to say in her promo.
Read somewhere that the oil companies would prefer shallower well permits but various lobbying interests have pushed them farther and farther from shore. Might be safer in shallower areas… maybe.
Here’s another interesting story that shows if you screw up and say something stupid the best thing to do is admit it and say you were wrong and then shut the hell up.
Rep. Sean Duffy made a stupid comment at a town hall about how hard it was to live on his $174,000.00 a year salary. Someone taped the remark and sent it to TPM who put it on their blog with some snarky comments.
Instead of following my advice above Mr. Duffy tried to ban the tape from being played. Then when that didn’t work he went on CNN and told Joe John’s the tape had been edited. It hadn’t. Now TPM is doing even more stories on the tape and by tomorrow it will be everywhere and Mr. Duffy will be famous. All he had to do was say it was a stupid remark and that he was wrong to say it and by now the story would be history.
You can send a man to Washington but you can’t make him smart.
Sidebar: Mr’ Johns is going to have ‘some splainin to do’ as well as he bought Mr. Duffy’s story hook, line & sinker and now will have to walk it back.
The reality is, once you’ve based a lifestyle on $174,000 a year – including supporting two homes so you can stay in DC during the week – you can legitimately claim to be a working man with debts; you’re not rich. You still don’t wanna be caught bitching about to someone making 50 Grand..
Yeah, $175K when you have to support 2 homes, a stay-at-home wife & 6 kids, isn’t exactly breaking the bank. But, details no longer matter. It’s so much easier to play political games instead.
It’s not a game. I spelled out what was stupid about it, and so did Fritz. He said it to people in a much worse position than he, and refuses to say, “Yeah, that was kinda weak.” “The media edited the tape” is a stupid response. He could learn from Michelle Bachmann: When she screws up, she laughs it off without blaming anyone, then moves on.
Doesn’t matter that he may truly be having a rough time making ends meet at $174K. Whining about it is weak and uninspiring. Unfair or not, that makes for a news story.
Along those lines, how can people who are currently working (and making VERY good money) declare bankruptcy? I keep hearing stories like that all the time. I can see if one does not have a job, but if a married couple both have very well paying jobs, why would a court allow them to duck out on their creditors?
That would be refreshing, but as it is a politician, it is an impossibility.
…except a politician I’m not exactly in agreement with, Michelle Bachmann, seems to know how to blow off a gaffe and get back on message without feeding the liberal blogosphere.
That would be refreshing, but as it is a politician, it is an impossibility.
That’s not true jrdrop. Joe Biden makes verbal gaffes on a regular basis and does just that. You won’t see him complaining about someone edited the tape; unless someone actually did it of course. Granted he’s got lots of experience with gaffes.
Bachmann is a different case. She believes what she says in spite of whatever facts are presented and her target audience is not the general public but rather a small subset of the public called the Tea Party; who believe the ‘gaffe’ is actually the truth and that those pointing out the gaffe are part of a giant conspiracy of liberals out to destroy the Tea Party.
As for Duffy it doesn’t matter if what he says is true or if he believes it or not; when you say it at a town hall it shows a level of political naivete that’s pretty stunning. So I guess his followup strategy could be expected.

Well I guess Obama will be arming the Peace Corps next.

Sounds like something a foreigner would do…

Sorry, I was in a meeting..what’d I miss? Gohmert? Eh, even the crazies look at him like, “Geez, do ya believe this guy..?”

-Deep water permits-
Read somewhere that the oil companies would prefer shallower well permits but various lobbying interests have pushed them farther and farther from shore.

March 31, 2011 at 8:27 pm
Yeah, $175K when you have to support 2 homes, a stay-at-home wife & 6 kids, isn’t exactly breaking the bank. But, details no longer matter. It’s so much easier to play political games instead.
March 31, 2011 at 8:34 pm
It’s not a game. I spelled out what was stupid about it, and so did Fritz. He said it to people in a much worse position than he, and refuses to say, “Yeah, that was kinda weak.” “The media edited the tape” is a stupid response. He could learn from Michelle Bachmann: When she screws up, she laughs it off without blaming anyone, then moves on.
March 31, 2011 at 8:45 pm
I wasn’t commenting on what you said, Joe. I was commenting on the fact that this is even a story. It’s dumb and it’s just playing political games.
March 31, 2011 at 8:53 pm
Doesn’t matter that he may truly be having a rough time making ends meet at $174K. Whining about it is weak and uninspiring. Unfair or not, that makes for a news story.

Along those lines, how can people who are currently working (and making VERY good money) declare bankruptcy? I keep hearing stories like that all the time. I can see if one does not have a job, but if a married couple both have very well paying jobs, why would a court allow them to duck out on their creditors?

fritz3 Says: “…if you screw up and say something stupid the best thing to do is admit it and say you were wrong and then shut the hell up.”
That would be refreshing, but as it is a politician, it is an impossibility.
