Just saw at Newsbusters that Brian Williams basically asked if the tornadoes were caused by “climate change”. “Is it something we’ve done”, he asked. Yeah, all the hot air that spews from NBC caused the tornadoes, numbnuts.
Climate change is real, but the devastating effects that it could cause are being overstated. Climate change has NOTHING to do with the deaths of more than 280 Americans because of a severe weather pattern. And reducing carbon emissions won’t bring these people back so Al Gore and his cronies should stop cheapening the lives lost just to make a half-baked political argument.
Ok, Think Progress are pigs. I don’t know, I didn’t read it. My point – which I thought was obvious – is that anyone blabbing about “global warming” is using inaccurate terminology. The theory behind climate change – whatever is causing it – is that weather patterns will become more severe as the years pass. They are.
lonestar, I don’t wish to get into a debate about climate change. But here are some irrefutable facts.
CO2 is a greenhouse gas.
The greenhouse effect is what occurs because the atmosphere traps in heat. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would be much colder and the oceans would be frozen.
More greenhouse gasses, like CO@, means a greater greenhouse effect and, thus, warmer global temperatures.
However…
This does not mean that we should dramatically reduce our CO2 emissions, waste billions of dollars on useless “green jobs” or punish productive Americans to try and save a few hundred polar bears.
The temperature increase by 2100 is estimated to be around 2.5 degrees Celsius, hardly anything to freak out about. Unfortunately Al Gore has demagogued this issue to scare people. Bad decisions are made on the basis of fear.
If that 2.5 Celsius means more polar ice melting, worse heatwaves and droughts, and more town-clearing tornadoes and hurricanes, I would say it’s worth freaking out about.
The climate is changing, and anyone who thinks the industrial revolution has nothing to do with it is living in a dreamworld.
Andy, I agree. As long as the investment is done in an efficient way.
And sure, that 2.5 degree increase could mean worse heatwaves, but how exactly does freaking out and scaring people with exaggerated information make that better?
I wrote two research papers on climate change and every single cost-benefit analysis shows that Kyoto-like approaches, with technology as it currently stands, will do next to nothing to reduce the current warming trend.
Before we crush out economy with cap and trade or a large carbon tax, we should invest more in green technology so that it is market-competitive with carbon-based fuels within the next two decades. That would actually allow all countries, including the U.S., China, and India, to convert to a green economy with minimal issues. The E.U. is screwing itself right now by spending a buttload on solar panels that will be obsolete in five years.
Erin Burnett on CNN might be enough for me to turn on cable news again!
Btw, saw this at the bottom of an article:
At CNN, her hiring is part of a larger effort to turn around the sagging ratings at the news outlet. One insider suggested there would be more big name hires in coming months.
That’s a snappy comeback, but “calling Obama a Communist” didn’t help. I was trying to be nice and a little bit funny, but if you’re going to insist I don’t like someone simply because they’re not just like me, well..
Dayside is strange in my book for Erin. As I said before, that sounds like a Heidi Collins/Tony Harris type job. In other words, anyone at CNN could do that. She’ll need a branded hour which can’t be expected to pull much ratings during the day? I mean, unless she’s cutting into Situation Room’s time frame.
Guess it’ll be interesting if CNN hires some more ‘big’ names as the THR writeup suggested. (I think it was the hollywood reporter – saw it on twitter.)
CO² is a necessary greenhouse gas and there is, unquestionably, a growing amount of it in our atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels is but one form of reintroduction of that gas into the atmosphere as it was once taken out of it through natural means.
According to the USGS, Earth is nearing the end of its most recent interglacial period, which means that glaciers will again begin their encroachment onto the land masses over the next few thousand years. Just as average local temperatures lag behind the change of seasons, so, too, does the planet relative to the glacial cycles – because of the mass of the oceans which change temperature far more slowly than does air.
Ocean temps will continue to rise for at least another thousand years, and with this comes the release of CO² from the warming waters – warm water cannot retain as much CO² as can cold water. (For proof of this, open one bottle of your favourite carbonated beverage at refrigerated temperature and another at room temperature. The warmer one will lose its fizz rather quickly.) Eventually, the planet’s oceans cool (again, lagging behind the cycle) and the atmospheric CO² will once again be absorbed through natural means.
Guess who’s sitting in for LOD? Trick question..it’s Thomas Roberts. It’s always Thomas Roberts. I don’t know why he’s doing an opinion show, or if he’s giving opinions. Ain’t watching.
“I’ve come to New Hampshire today because I’m very concerned,” said Paul, according to The New York Times. “I want to see the original long-form certificate of Donald Trump’s Republican registration.”
As a physician, I can assure you that such airborne toxicity is a bad thing for human health, but much of that concentrated soot eventually precipitates back into the ground. While slightly related, those are really separate issues, and the modernising of Chinese society will improve the longevity and quality of their lives more than the toxicity will counter that.
Josh, I’m glad you agree. Sadly, Pubcorp doesn’t because they think oil magically reproduces itself and will last forever.
They also seem to think we could drill here and have enough oil to last forever which, well, we don’t. If we extracted all the oil from the United States tomorrow, at our current consumption rate, we’d have enough to last two years. It’s nothing to balk at, but the “drill baby drill” and “get all our oil from the United States”. It’s not realistic.
Sarah Palin and the “drill baby drill” crowd live in a different reality than I do.
Right now, we’re being held hostage by big oil. Their price gouging (while making record profits again) costs everyone. Since they own all of Pubcorp and a lot of Democrats, they’re going to keep their monopolies. Pubcorp doesn’t want green energy because it’s a threat to oil company profits.
Hopefully I’m not around when gas hits $30/gal. and oil companies are making enough money per quarter to pay off the national debt.
Think Progress has outdone Wonkette in being complete a holes..saying that those people who died pretty much had it coming because they don’t believe in “Global Warming” or Climate Change”(or which ever term is being used now) is really low but not unexpected from these far left goons.
As for the Green movement that’s one of the biggest scams ever…such as buying carbon credits which is just to let AlGore pals like Leo act like their helping the Earth but still be able to fly their private jets, ride in their big limos and live in big ass mansions.
Here’s something else for discerning minds to ignore.
” At today’s prices, the Obama-induced loss of production represents $40 million per day in lost oil revenue. Spread over a full year, that comes to $14.6 billion that could be supporting thousands of sustainable, good-paying American jobs at no cost to the taxpayer. That is a much better deal than Obama’s $800 billion stimulus package, which appears to have added far more to the national debt than it ever will to national employment. ”

It’s not “global warming”, it’s “climate change”. For some reason, the climate is changing; becoming more severe..

Yeah, just like it was in the 70′s. Combined with this funny thing called ‘Spring’. Just admit that they’re pigs, and be done with it.

Yeah but she’s being named the Chief Biz correspondent, which is Velshi’s gig.
I never though she was good to begin with, so I’m not exactly sure what she brings to the table.
