More on Burnett…

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter has more on Erin Burnett jumping to CNN…

Reflecting her interest in breaking out of pure business news, Ms. Burnett spoke fondly about her reporting for CNBC in countries like Nigeria, India and Iran. She spent more than a week in Cairo during the recent protests against the government of Hosni Mubarak. Among attributes of CNN that appealed to her, she said, was its “incredible global platform in covering news.”

Along with her anchor role, Ms. Burnett will be the channel’s chief business and economics correspondent. “We see her role as being broader,” Mr. Jautz said, than that of another CNN anchor, Ali Velshi, who is currently its chief business correspondent but may be getting groomed for a new position with CNN.

Mr. Velshi had been anchoring CNN from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern, but he has lately been on a tryout of sorts on “American Morning,” the channel’s program from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., which is undergoing a reinvention. There has been speculation inside CNN that Ms. Burnett could slide into Mr. Velshi’s time slot if he were to be named a permanent anchor on “American Morning.”

In on on air report she once called George Bush a monkey. I guess that qualifies her to work at CNN. The average of all IQ’s at both networks increases with this move. She makes little attempt to hide her liberalism.

  2. I’d love to hear the context of that remark, Mr. Everybody Who’s Not A Rabid Libertarian Has A Liberal Bias.

  3. Found it. It was a lame attempt at calling Sarcozi handsome. Scarborough was trying to determine which person she was talking about, and she said, “Sarcozi, not that monkey in the middle”, which was obviously an awkward version of “the goofy looking guy”.

It was a dumb joke from a clearly jetlagged reporter, and she apologized. You got any other examples of this horrendous bias you’re convinced of?

“Sarcozi, not that monkey in the middle”,

I think that says it all. BTW, what if she had said that about President Obama?

Believe me, she is liberal and she is proud of it. BTW, That’s not a crime.

  5. Oh gimme a break. That word has a brutal history against blacks, and you know it. That’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever said.

  6. libertyandjustice Says:

Joe, I don’t judge people’ words based upon their race but apparently that’s all you do all day long. Please stop it.

  7. You just asked me if it would be the same if a reporter called a black man a monkey. That’s either intentionally incendiary, or you don’t know the racial history of that term.

Judging from the myopic knowledge of American history I’ve seen from conservatives around here lately, I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and grant that you don’t know. Apparently righties don’t know sh*t about race history. That’s intentional. Don’t know, don’t care.

  8. libertyandjustice Says:

There should be no double standards. When liberals start treating minorities as equals we will be delivering on Dr. Kings dream.

BTW, all races evolved in the same manner. Please no more personal insults or I will not continue any dialogue with you.

  9. I have no interest in a dialogue with someone who baits me with a racial comment, which is what I assumed you were doing. If you honestly didn’t know, I’ll move on. Here’s your history.

  10. Ya know, I don’t think you were oblivious. I think you intentionally race-baited me, then gave me some “we’re all equal, I see no color” bullsh*t. Screw you, I’ve had it. Goodbye everybody.

  11. Does that mean we’re stuck with Andy?

  12. I guess so..this conversation has become unbearably depressing lately, and it’s only going to get worse the closer we get to the election. I don’t like it.

  13. What’s so wrong about us on the left defending black culture and identifying racism when we see it? The reason it’s focused on so carefully is because African Americans have had to deal with race issues for hundreds of years, and it basically has never changed, even in 2011.

The interesting thing is, many people will make racial remarks or insults about African Americans (on purpose or by accident)… they apologize and move on. But, God for bid, if anybody references Nazi’s (Hitler, etc.), mentions Jews in any negative light, or even remotely brings up the Holocaust, people want to condemn that person for life.

That’s all good and well, because obviously Jewish people suffered through a serious epidemic with the Holocaust (that’s not my complaint), but why can’t we use that logic for African Americans, as well? Were they not victimized and treated like dirt, and many killed, just for the color of their skin and being different?

  14. CNN is still bonkers it they think Ali Velshi is a keeper. IMO, that dude is on par with Wolf Blitzer in the unwatchable category.

Even if Burnett anchors 1-3pm and does other miscellaneous hits.. I’m still not seeing how they think this is going to improve ratings. Wouldn’t she need to be on between 3pm – 11pm for it to matter much? CNN’s ratings are always lower before 3pm w/o breaking news, no?

Finally, if they’re really thinking about hiring more ‘big’ names then we might be on to something here. Ya know, if they revamp the entire channel and get rid of the undesirables! Hint: Wolf Blitzer who at one time anchored 20+ hours a week.. After a quick check it looks like he’s still on the air for at least 10 now.

  15. They could bump Wolf Blitzer down to one hour but that will seriously anger the D.C. Bureau. They freaked out when Rick Sanchez took an hour from Blitzer and they would do the same unless it was replaced by another hour from the D.C. Bureau.

I think hiring Burnett will do little to help CNN. And what other big names are they thinking about hiring? How about Stone Phillips, who fell off the face of the Earth after NBC laid him off? He was always a good anchor.

  16. Saw this buried at the bottom:

At CNN, her hiring is part of a larger effort to turn around the sagging ratings at the news outlet. One insider suggested there would be more big name hires in coming months.

^That’s no surprise Terance, you only like good looking female hosts. :-)

IMHO they could make better use of Martin Savidge. He’s experienced and smart.

  18. fritz, haven’t you tried the same line on me before only to be corrected? Ah, that must be why you included that smiley, eh?

  19. What’s so wrong about us on the left defending black culture and identifying racism when we see it?

Because conservatives live in a dreamworld where waltzing into my neighborhood and calling someone a monkey won’t see them leaving in a box.

  20. libertyandjustice Says:

“who baits me with a racial comment,” That’s pure BS. The point was both!!!!!!!! comments are offensive but you (liberals) only get offended if it involves race. Calling Bush a monkey is offensive and really unprofessional and Aron Burnett crossed the line. I accept her apology .

    Your words

    “Screw you, I’ve had it.”

“we’re all equal, I see no color” bullsh*t.”

“Because conservatives live in a dreamworld”

“righties don’t know sh*t about race history”

Examples of your pure cynicism, intolerance and coarseness. Good luck changing any minds with that approach.

  21. There’s not a chance in hell I’ll change any minds, and I’m not trying to. But if you think I’m gonna sit here and pretend that race-baiting comment was innocent, you’re crazy. Erin made a lousy attempt at humor, and apologized for it. There is no version of reality that has that word placed in a racial context between white people. For you to use it in a false equivalence against a black man is vile.
