I’ll start with Missy’s favorite gripe. FNC ran ads for days claiming 9/11: As It Happened would air at 12est Sunday night, the ran the debate (again) instead. I thought maybe it would show up later in the evening. Nope. Did it finally dawn on someone that airing it on “dinner with mom day” was a bad idea?
Per Andy’s comment: Busch and Kevin Harvick had a little confrontation after Saturday night’s race. They stopped in the pits, Harvick jumped out and punched Kyle through the driver window, then Kyle shoved Harvick’s now driverless car into the pit wall inbetween several crew members. Very dangerous, very stupid. He should be banned for a couple races; someone could have been seriously injured or killed.
How unlucky is Donald Trump? He mainstreamed the ludicrous Birther nonsense, making a laughingstock of the party he claims to belong to; gets his wish for the Long Form, making him instantly irrelevant; accepts an invitation to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner so he can sit grimly while the President destroys him; then finds out that the “better thing” Obama had to do that week was catching and killing Public Enemy No. 1.
Trump now goes down in history forever with video of a President who knew how serious his job was, confidently telling him to shuffle back to reality crap TV where he belongs. Oh, and he got bumped from the Pace Car at Indy. Yes.
joe if you don’t like Limbaugh, don’t listen to him. Simple as that. I don’t like him either but I don’t waste my time with him. As much as I think some of the things he says are stupid if he has an audience that will listen then all the power to him.
No way, Jacky. As long as Rush is a powerful driver of conservative thought amongst regular Americans, I’m going to pay attention. We talked the other day about Mike Malloy saying something egregious against George Bush, and I said he was a minor-player moron not worth the attention. Rush is a major player, and his attitude effects many people.
I’m not willing to ignore the nasty invective he poisons the atmosphere with. If I’m willing to call KO out – which I’ve done repeatedly – I have the right to address this. Rush Limbaugh is using division and hatred to stay “important”. It’s bad for the country.
GOTCHA! Chris Matthews redid a Palin segment for the 7:00 re-air. The first time, he showed Tina Fey’s SNL skit, then said “possibly the best impression ever..well..I won’t say anymore..” He changed it to “one of the best sendups ever”, without any hedging about saying something else. Interesting.
“We’re going to punish our enemies…..” BHO on 10/25/10 on Univision. I am already liberals enemy so I guess I could say “tit for tat”. Though one person saying smack is the President of the United States and the other is a radio host. Are they really equal?
“Is anyone on the right ever going to step up and admit this crap is bad for the country?”
Is anyone on the left going to stand up and admit this crap is bad for the country?
“As long as Rush is a powerful driver of conservative thought amongst regular Americans,”
^Rush listeners are not regular Americans. They are part of the extreme right wing fringe of American society. Most true conservatives tolerate and fear him but are not nearly as extreme as his followers.
Got it. Apparently one person who thought it was bad for the country was the man who apologized for it the next day. There isn’t a chance in hell Rush will make the same walk-back.
Rush listeners are not regular Americans. They are part of the extreme right wing fringe of American society.
I’ve known a lot of conservatives in my lifetime, and Rush is not considered “fringe” by them. He’s mainstream Republican media, and even righties who sometimes disagree with him still listen.
Obama’s original comments came during an interview with Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo, a Hispanic radio personality. Piolin questioned how Obama could ask Latinos for their vote when many don’t believe he’s worked hard to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
Obama responded: “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder.”
So, yes, he didn’t use the word “Republicans” but people knew who he was talking about. Google the words “Obama calls his critics “enemy”" and you will find various sources – longer and shorter articles that explain fully what he was talking about.
Remember the timeframe that this was said in – right before the November elections and he was very concerned about how the polls were trending. He needed the Hispanic vote to pull through for him. Looks like they didn’t and he got what many called a shellacking” (sp?) in the November elecrtions.
“I’ve known a lot of conservatives in my lifetime, and Rush is not considered “fringe” by them. He’s mainstream Republican media, and even righties who sometimes disagree with him still listen.”
I guess I have a higher opinion of conservatives than you.
Fritz, trying to have a real conversation with you always ends with some nonsensical sentence ending in a smiley. I have a real problem with a major figure in mainstream media. “Bad for the country” does not end in a wink for me.
Btw, running a quote without acknowledging the subsequent apology really irritates me. There a vast difference between the guy who oversteps his bounds and reels it back in, and the one who proudly wallows in “oversteps”, without remorse.
So, am In to understand you can say whatever crap you want one day as long as you walk back a “so called” apology the next day? How about as President you be more careful the first time you say something? I can not equate Rush with the President in any way. Way more people hear what the President says on a daily basis than those who hear what Rush has to say.
Examples of stupid things Obama has said: “bowling like Special Olympics; comments about the police office in Cambridge, Mass; Nancy Reagan and seance; 3000 lives of the bravest young Americans have been wasted, etc., etc.
So, the rules are you can say whatever you want one day as long as you walk it back the next day? Ok, here goes – “IMHO this President is useless”.
You can’t compare one hyperbolic comment, apologized for, to the endless hateful drivel spewing from Rush’s studio every day. He reaches a vast amount of people, and poisons them. I’m sick of it.
^Are you saying that the people who listen to rush can’t think for themselves? If people don’t like him they can always change the radio station. I’m tired of this whole conspiracy on both sides of brain washing, it’s getting stupid.
And honestly his hate for the left, your hate for Palin, is there really a difference? They both tend to not operate on reason a lot.
Joe; I stand by my comment. Rush is like Joe McCarthy; people (conservatives) fear him but most don’t buy what he is selling. Your conservative friends/ acquaintances may say they like what RL is pushing and some may actually believe it, but many are just afraid to say the emperor has no clothes.
joe and fritz, you two giving so much more power to Limbaugh than he actually has. He is a chubby rich guy who voices his opinion on the radio. You two need to stop trying to make him into this nationwide conspiracy to make the make the masses into Republican drones. With all the energy you guys put into hating this guy it could go into making your side more decisive in the political arena. No wonder Democrats are wimps.

Can I get a context for that quote? If he really said it about Republicans on Spanish television, I’ll blast him for it, but it doesn’t sound right.
