Savannah Guthrie to Today…Chuck Todd Goes Solo on “Daily Rundown”…
As part of the Meredith Vieira/Ann Curry Today news, Politico’s Keach Hagey writes that Savannah Guthrie is headed to the Today Show which means Chuck Todd will be anchoring solo on “Daily Rundown”.
The long-awaited shakeup of the “Today” show, expected last week but apparently delayed amidst the news of Osama bin Laden’s death, is now official: Meredith Vieira is leaving the show next month, and Ann Curry is replacing her as co-anchor.
Nathalie Morales will step up be news anchor, and Savannah Guthrie is being promoted to be co-anchor of the show’s third hour.

They will have my eyeballs to check it out; since I con’t watch the show, my view will count somewhere, sometime.

I think this is a good move for The Daily Rundown.
Guthrie is a competent reporter and host and I enjoyed the banter between her and Todd but CT is in a class by himself in political reporting and the more air time he gets the better it is for the show.
I do hope they stop the silly segments like ‘soup of the day’ which is now repetitive and has long outlived it’s fun factor.
I expect there won’t be much, if any, change in the shows ratings but I do expect even more emphasis on US politics as the 2012 election nears.
MSNBC would be smart to also have Todd replace the primetime hosts as an election coverage moderator and use their primetime hosts as analysts rather than trying to let them fake neutrality. The general coverage wouldn’t change much but it would lessen the constant whining that MSNBC coverage is biased and make it more in line with the system used at FNC.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Luke Russert wasn’t tapped to replace Guthrie on the WH beat, as he seem to be a rising star at NBC.
All and all a good move for all concerned.
