Richard Lui, MSNBC: “Congressman Weiner is having a hard time putting this scandal behind him..” There’s really know way to not throw a double entendre into this story, is there?
So was Palin’s bus tour always intended to derail Romney’s announcement? Maybe she is greasing the skids for Michele Bachmann. It’d be an interesting move: The most powerful woman in (far right) Republican politics gets the second most powerful one to the White House. Result? They go from “most powerful women” to “most powerful people“. Interesting.
On a related note, it’s time for Rupert to cut Sarah loose. I don’t think she’s going to run, but not running makes her more powerful in the ’12 election than if she did. Unless Fox is comfortable being the “news channel” behind the kingmaker for the GOP, she has to go.
^ I was thinking that myself earlier. Thing is, they might not contractually be able to. The political contributors, including Dick Morris, Karl Rove, and probably Sarah Palin are clearly allowed to continue with their outside business and PAC interests. She hasn’t formed any exploratory or campaign committees so she probably has ‘em by their … ummm.. Anthony.
joeremi, I almost never agree with you but today I could not agree more. If the GOP is stupid enough to nominate her, then they deserve to lose – and I am about as far right as you can get. I wish she would just go away.
One thing I’ve noticed when it comes to Palin people are passionate about their like for her or passionate about their dislike. People love to hate her and hate to love her. There is really no middle ground where there is a large group of people just apathetic about her.
^ Sorry, missed it; I haven’t watch Brooke in quite a while.
Palin’s explanation of the origins of the Statue of Liberty were somewhat less than astute, as well. My favorite part was when she started running out of incomprehensible combinations of words and quietly mumbled to a finish. I half expected her to say, “Help me here, guys, I clearly have no idea what I’m talking about.”
Rove yes (he’s not an elitist but I don’t trust him when it comes to politics) but everyone else does have a point; where Palin is right now is not the best place to be. Granted if you are disliked as much as her and are still staying relevant that is an accomplishment in itself but she could be MUCH better.
I don’t why she isn’t elevating herself to the next level when she can. I would be more content if I knew this was her peak then I could ride her off but she has talent (raw and unrefined) and it is like she almost refuses to use it. Either she is really dumb and doesn’t know what to do with what she has or she is an evil genius and is planning a political D-Day that will shake up the realm of national politics. I guess we shall see.
It’s simple, Jacky. She’s lazy. She gets by just fine on looks and charm – not exactly an original talent in this society – and doesn’t care for hard work. She hates learning, and hates governing. The worst thing that could happen to Sarah Palin is to get the job of President. She would NOT like it.
I am not ready to agree to that yet, Palin is not running for anything so complex policy discussion is not something she needs to exactly talk about all the time I wish she would discuss it). If she plans to run (or doesn’t run) and pulls this kind of malarkey then I will be on your side.
If she really was lazy I don’ think she would have even accepted to being McCain’s running mate. She could have stayed in Alaska and be their queen until she was old and gray.
I think that’s a valid opinion. Hopefully Palin’s inner circle knows something we don’t because squandered talent is a shame. I hope she does run just to show people she can do the work, but again she is lazy so who knows.
Been out all day but I’d just like to point out that for someone (Palin) who most of you think is a moronic nobody, you’ve sure spent a lot of time talking about her today.
I like her texas and I think she can be great but she is not without obvious faults and cons that if she is seeking higher office need to be addressed and soon.
For all of my complaints about her, it’s stuff like this that give me second thoughts.
Chris Matthews tonight
“Leading off tonight, civil war on the right. Not since the election of Abraham Lincoln has a Republican [i.e., Palin] caused such a war.”
Uncommonly silly.
Historically illiterate.
Rhetorically absurd.
All of the necessary qualifications – minus ideology – needed to host a show on MSNBC.
That’s my doing, LS. I’m sick of hearing about Anthony’s Weiner, and nobody else was saying anything. Take one Free For All; add Palin; watch the magic. Trust me..I know what I’m doing..
I’m a doctor, not a lawyer, but my impression is that O’Reilly has a slightly warped sense of what “justice” is. On the Caylee Anthony segment he tried to get Carlson and Hoover to predict whether “justice will be served” and seemed to infer that only a conviction would qualify as “just” even though the evidence is entirely circumstantial.
Justice:
“Just behaviour or treatment.”
“The quality of being fair and reasonable.”
So justice is not served if the prosecution fails to convince the jury beyond a reasonable doubt and she is either acquitted or found guilty of a lesser charge? Doesn’t ring true to me.
^ Obama did that about the 9/11 suspects, too. He implied that under no circumstances would they be acquitted, and that “justice would be served”. That’s not how “justice” works.
Oh yea, another wingnut with a crazy O’Reilly obsession. Do any of the people at that network check anything out or are they just out to take irresponsible personal shots at people? LOD has long been a passenger on the crazy train but he jumped off for about the 1st week of his show. However, he saw that the MSNBC audience really only tunes in for the truly insane so he hopped back on board.
Hmmm… While I’m feeling oddly offended that you said that, Joe, you are right. POTUS shouldn’t be prejudging the outcome of a trial no matter who it is, and military trials sometimes render acquittals. I can square that with my belief that it is OK for POTUS to order a kill shot on somebody like UBL because the latter is a decision of war.
Anybody who thinks my comment was some sort of defense of those bastards is sorely misguided. Y’all know what my point was. For the record, I was ‘oddly offended’ TYPING it.
No, I don’t think analysts lie about who seems impressive to them. Several pundits have said he’s very strong – very relaxed – on the stump, and will chew Romney and Pawlenty up.
Good call from Frances Martel about LOD. He clearly has no idea what O’Reilly’s angle on this story is, which means he’s going on “I know Bill talked about Weiner”. I love ya, Crazy Larry, but you didn’t watch the shows.
Juan Williams said during Wednesday’s Special Report panel that Congressman Weiner represents a district that leans Republican and that it’s not certain the Dems would retain the seat if Weiner steps down. This is approximately the same district Charles Schumer and Geraldine Ferraro represented and the last Repub to hold it was in 1923.
If this district is now leaning Republican then Democrats are going to experience severe indigestion come Fall, 2012. Stock tip: Invest in Tums.

Off to an excellent start..

We new what you meant.
June 2, 2011 at 1:26 pm
I feel bad for the guy. Not for the scandal, just that his name is Weiner. I’m sure he was the butt of many jokes in school.
June 2, 2011 at 1:53 pm
^ Not exactly the butt of jokes…

If there’s one thing Sarah has the whole country by, that would be it..
June 2, 2011 at 2:37 pm
^Long story short she’s news. Regardless of what the majority of people think of her the media just can’t get enough Palin.

Fox News has really broken new ground – in a bad way – with the Palin/Huckabee et al. relationship.
They never drew lines and made it clear what the relationship was.
Points for originality = 0.
Degree of difficulty = 0
I still think that I’m in the ICN plus column though.
Getting close I admit.

I really enjoyed watching Billo try and find polite ways to diss her last evening, while interviewing Diane Sawyer. Love to post a clip of that.

If you’re a Republican and O’Reilly thinks you suck, something needs to change pronto.

VP is widely considered a cush job. I don’t think she gave the workload much thought. Just my opinion, of course.
If she’s going to go on television and bus tours to discuss policy, she should already be cracking the books. She clearly has not done it.
