Here Goes The “Erin Burnett is Replacing John King or Eliot Spitzer” Storyline Again…
Ace TVNewser Gumshoe Merrill Knox digs into the Tuner job board and comes up with this…
Time Warner, CNN’s parent company, currently has at least five job postings for the “Erin Burnett Show” on their website — a senior writer and four producers. Two of the postings (here’s one) refer specifically to the show as a “nightly” news program in the job descriptions.
CNN came out with the “We haven’t decided a timeslot” response again but it’s getting tougher to swallow. Those job postings aren’t written by some intern in the newsroom. They were written by people with direct knowledge of the position needed. The likelihood that someone just accidentally slipped in the word “nightly” into those two recs without really knowing what’s going on is all but impossible to believe.
All signs currently point to CNN being trapped in the middle of yet another “King/Morgan” PR highwire act that it can’t or won’t publicly commment on or definitively refute for reasons that will eventually reveal themselves down the road…

One has to wonder why CNN didn’t gracefully move John King to Ed Henry’s old spot reporting. Unless of course he’s on the way out. (You heard it here first, eh.)
IMO, Jautz is no Klein and hiring Erin for daytime would be a Klein type move. (Along with all his other idiotic ideas that failed to gain traction.)

I doubt CNN would drop King when his ratings have improved. Spitzer, on the other hand, is terrible.
If “Arena” was co-hosted (ParkerSpitzer style) with E.D. Hill, it would be a buzzworthy show. Otherwise, it’s just another boring hour from the most sleepy name in news.
Erin Burnett would be a refreshing addition to cable news primetime, even though I doubt her show would do much better than Spitzer’s.

They can’t move King back to a job that he once had already (Henry’s)…

Ed Hill makes me long for Kathleen Parker. A Megyn Kelly wanna bee doesn’t work on CNN. Humorless and shrill; she’s a natural for FNC and never should have left.

How about pairing King and Spitzer on ITA. That show as presently hosted & formatted is never going to challenge Billo or LOD; no matter who hosts it; so use it to bury two dead weights till there contracts are over.
Hardball and, to a much lesser extent, Shep’s hour are shows that can be challenged with the right host and format. Maybe Burnett is that host. John King obviously isn’t.

Ideally, Erin would replace Spitzer because he’s much worse for the brand than John King ever will be, IMO. (King is a good reporter and I think he got ‘Campbell Browned’ into a program that doesn’t play to his strengths.)
So, I’d say to scrap the whole 8pm format and go with something new. But, then again, putting Erin into the 8pm slot is sorta setting her up for failure. Because I don’t see how she’s suppose to compete with FNC/MSNBC and depending on what KO’s ratings are.. There doesn’t seem to be many potential viewers left unless ya think she’ll actually bring in a new audience.

Fritz, have you watch Arena lately? E.D. Hill isn’t “shrill” as you say. She’s pretty much Kathleen Parker except she can actually anchor a TV program and hold her own against Spitzer.
If CNN wants to do an opinion show at 8, a two-person show would be ideal. The problem with P/S wasn’t the format but the two hosts.
If CNN wants to do a low-rated news and discussion program at 8, Erin Burnett would be a fine choice.

Spitzer probably should have waited until MSNBC gave him a slot. Unless they never intended to.

Josh: Re Ed hill- different strokes etc.
“Spitzer probably should have waited until MSNBC gave him a slot. Unless they never intended to.”
^I can’t see anyway Spitzer ever goes to MSNBC as he’s been ridiculed on almost every show on the network as a perv. To have him join the network now would make for some really embarrassing host encounters in 30 Rock hallways.

I agree fritz. Spitzer had a chance when he was guest-hosting for Ratigan. MSNBC rewards their guest hosts (LOD, Maddow, Chris Hayes) but I guess CNN gave him an offer so he took it.
