Fareed Zakaria Talks to America’s Top Innovators About the Best Way Forward in New Primetime Special
Restoring the American Dream: How to Innovate – A FAREED ZAKARIA GPS Special debuts Sunday and is featured in TIME magazine
In 2011, for the first time in history, China is on track to outpace the United States in patent filings. From the political right to the political left, nearly everyone agrees that innovation is key to American job growth. CNN and TIME magazine’s Fareed Zakaria interviews America’s top innovation experts for their best ideas on how to fuel creativity and the U.S. economic recovery for a new special, CNN Presents: Restoring the American Dream: How to Innovate, debuting Sunday, June 5 at 8:00p.m. and 11:00p.m. ET/PT. Fareed Zakaria’s TIME magazine story, “Innovate Better” is featured in the June 13th issue, currently on newsstands.
But just what is “innovation” and who is good at it? If America is falling behind, how can the U.S. rebound? Should government or the private sector take the lead? And, who are the winners and losers if America can get back to innovating?

Martin Bashir’s Sarah Palin “Flag Code” Bruhaha…
Posted in MSNBC on June 3, 2011 by icn2I’m late getting to this as it transpired on Tuesday while I was in transit home. NewsBusters’ Alex Fitzsimmons wrote about Martin Bashir making a claim on his show’s “Clearing the Air” segment that Sarah Palin using the American Flag on her bus tour “could be a breach of Federal law” citing the US Flag Code rules for the use of the flag. Ignoring Fitzsimmons’ erection of a straw man in citing the 1989 Supreme Court flag burning decision – which centered on a Texas state law not the code Bashir referenced – Fitzsimmons does correctly zero in on the notion that the Code is purely advisory in nature.
Well as one would expect in such matters, Bashir’s statement did cause something of a ruckus. Fitzsimmons followed up yesterday by noting Bashir’s response to his self-inflicted controversy and his apparent dodging of the relevant issue at hand…
On Tuesday, Bashir questioned Palin’s patriotism and suggested she’s a criminal: “In fact, the whole thing could be in breach of a federal law because the United States Flag Code establishes important rules for the use and display of the stars and stripes, the flag of the United States.”
But on Thursday, Bashir pretended to have never uttered such offensive bile, even though it was those comments that were the most controversial.
Still waiting for you to “Clear the Air,” Martin.

Ari Emmanuel’s Growing MSNBC Stable…
Posted in MSNBC on June 2, 2011 by icn2Page Six writes that Lawrence O’Donnell has changed agents and has joined Ari Emmanuel’s WME…
Lawrence O’Donnell has jumped ship from CAA to rival WME after being won over by talent honcho Ari Emanuel. The MSNBC anchor, who exec-produced “The West Wing,” told us, “Ari presented me with a way of handling all of my various activities that seemed the most coherent . . . from television-writing to screenwriting to MSNBC and books and other possible ventures. The MSNBC show is now at a point . . . that I can more seriously focus on other things I should be doing as well.” O’Donnell is creating an HBO sitcom he once said was about “rich people in New York in the age of Madoff.”
The joke running around NBC used to be that you couldn’t get anywhere unless you were represented by N.S. Bienstock. But those days, if they ever existed, may be ending. Remember just a few weeks ago there were stories that Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were talking to Emmanuel. Now O’Donnell is with Emmanuel.
