CNN (Malveaux & some Finance guy) just blamed the dismal 2nd quarter numbers on the gridlock in Washington over the debt ceiling debate saying that corporations rely on the government to spend money. Yes, they really just did that. The 2nd quarter ended in June. We’re almost in August. Unless these corporations had magic 8 balls that they really trust, they had no idea what the debate would look like at the end of July.
Idiots. It’s amazing the lengths the MSM will go to in order to protect this POTUS.
TEA Party will be the cause of the total annihilation of this country and the global economy… but hey, they’re making their point to the internet “I hate government” message boards that the mainstream media has promoted and glorified as some “movement”.
TEA Party will be the cause of the total annihilation…
There wasn’t a “Tea Party” until the Democratic-controlled congress and President Obama passed massive spending and unfixable nationalised health insurance into law despite overwhelming public disapproval and without any Republican votes.
Al, incorrect. Wildly incorrect. The TEA Party came to existence because an idiot on CNBC went on a five minute about the auto bailouts and about how Obama (who had been in office for all of ten days) was spending the country in to oblivion. After that, a bunch of people showed up with signs outside Washington bitching about the bailouts and taxation with representation.
The TEA Party is like, 10% of the population. People who are retired, mostly, and don’t need jobs wanting to “cut government spending” because Reagan told them “government is the problem” (the same Reagan that raised the debt ceiling 18 times and tripled the National Debt). The FOX “News” Channel came around and started organizing TEA Party protests blaming Obama for unemployment, the deficit and the bailouts (all of which were problems before Obama took office).
These people are idiots because, every time Congress has cut spending during stagnant economies, bad things have followed. That was the main ingredient in “The Great Depression” recipe.
But the TEA Party doesn’t care because, ah who cares if Grandma’s eating Meow Mix for breakfast and Friskies for dinner because we’re in a depression, they made their point to Free Republic and the FOX “News” forums and will get re-elected by the same idiots.
Andrea “original thought” Tantaros on The Five: “When the budget passes and Obama signs it, ‘the media’ will glorify hm because they’re behind him until Novemember.” You forgot ‘in the tank’, ti…um..toots.
Annnd we figured it out. The Daily Show signed off with a clip of The Five crew bopping to music the other night. Today various Fox personalities – including Bill Schulz – read funny emails to the panel, including one that said “more dancing”, then faded to break with…more “seat dancing”.
The Five isn’t a news debate show..it’s Red Eye with dancing. That’ll work, it’ll be around a while.
Also of note (from Politoco/ Gallup story of Tea Party)
Forty-three percent of the independents surveyed said they support the tea party, while 49 percent of Republicans said the same. Only 8 percent of self-identified Democrats back the tea parties.
Fifty-five percent of those who said they support the tea parties make more than $55,000, compared with roughly 50 percent of Americans who are above that income level.
I swear, how many times do I have to enlighten you? Most liberals call themselves “progressive” or “independent”. “Liberal” is only in vogue amongst conservatives. Using that poll result is meaningless.
You’re telling me they didn’t present “independent” and “decline to state”? If so, that’s a silly poll. What’s the “moderate” number? You’ll find plenty of liberals of the “not progressive” variety in there. Me, for example.
^You know one of the great things about this country is that you don’t have to stay if the “stupidity” of this country is such a drag. There’s always Canada right?
Canada doesn’t need a bunch of stupid Americans crossing their border and taking their jobs. Besides, they’ll out-debate you and drink you under the table. Eh.
@jackyboy: I love this country. I am an American first, always will be. I won’t standby and watch as the TEArrorists destroy this country because they want to win an election. Sometimes, there are things more important than elections, the TEA people need to grow up and realize this.
^ I have to assume his letter is meant for the congressional Democrats. Sen. Reid could have used the last debt-raisning bill, “CCB”, as his vehicle for moving the legislation forward but chose to wait. Republicans elected last year in the near-record turn-over all campaigned on lowering spending without raising taxes. For them, that’s a mandate.
Given that the tea party-elected members of congress are for a smaller federal government, lower federal spending, and a path toward a balanced budget (with a mechanism for future deficit spending when necessary), labelling them as “extreme” or “terrorists” defies rational logic.
@Al: Cutting government spending during a stagnant economy creates instability. It will kill any chance we have at a recovery for years.
Jobs should be the first, second, third and fourth priority in Congress. But the TEArrorists are doing what they do best, creating fear by telling their sheeple that government spending is the cause of all evil in the world. They want unemployment to remain at 9.2% and want things to get worse so they can win the elections.
Time and time again it has been demonstrated that federal government spending neither creates substantial job growth nor stimulates the economy. You just spent nearly a trillion extra bucks on “stimulus” and for all that we got bupkis. In fact, doing so at a time when the world economy was in decline made matters far worse.
If jobs are to be” first, second, third, and fourth” on the priority list, dump the stupid health care law and tell the president to get his department secretaries to knock off all of the job-killing regulations they’re putting in place. If you’re such an expert on Ronald Reagan you’ll know that his successful approach to encouraging job growth was centred on getting government out. of. the. way.
Al, the stimulus didn’t work because (a.) It was not large enough and (b.) it was left in the control of the states. Instead of putting that money in to infrastructure as was intended, many of the states put the majority of that money in to either education, “special interest” projects (peoples’ pockets) or closing their own budget deficit.
If the government had done what it should have done, shelled out the money and put a condition on it for it to only be used for infrastructure projects, Obama would look like a genius right now.
Written like a true socialist. Fair enough, but that approach does not work very well for the more-socialistic governments and certainly can’t work here within our American capitalistic economies.
“Infrastructure” is exactly what the word means – those basic structures necessary to operate a society. It is what allows commerce to take place but it is not what creates commerce. We already have roads and bridges which aren’t anywhere near capacity since the economy is down, so spending precious resources to build more or to rebuild what’s already there is foolish. The temporary jobs created to build infrastructure does not produce a profit-making marketable product that is the basis for reinvestment, long-term job creation, and a growing tax base.
The economy tanked due to the rapid deflation of the real estate market which was a direct result of federal government policies that encouraged artificially inflated home values. That problem was made worse with mortgage guarantees on amounts far beyond what the borrowers could reasonably afford. Infrastructure has nothing whatsoever to do with that.

GDP up 1.3%. Woo-hoo. Consumer spending barely budged. You know what will help? Tax increases!
Well, it of course it won’t help but it will make liberals feel so good. And, that’s what’s really important.
July 29, 2011 at 7:07 am
I’m not sure what’s worse, the alarming number of liberals calling Republicans terrorists or the collective yawn coming from the MSM.
July 29, 2011 at 7:30 am
Q1 GDP was revised down to 0.4%. We could technically already be back in recession.
And given that, this advice from a Nobel-prize winning economist seems apt.
July 29, 2011 at 7:34 am
^ In fairness to Obama; in the clip you posted, he was forced to speak without the help of a teleprompter and we all know how well that usually goes.

Andy claims only 10% support the Tea Party, yet Gallup has said 28%
More than a quarter of Americans count themselves as supporters of the tea party movement, according to a new Gallup Poll out Monday.
The Tea Party has more support than there are liberals in this country (20-21%).

Moderate

and so the people just lie and say they are something else because “progressive” polls better than what they are liberal.
