I’ve been trying to not let the looting and rioting of London bother me. But recognising some of the areas now in the middle of it really surprises me. Some of these are nice neighbourhoods so I don’t think this is some kind of “recent immigrant” uprising.
This looks to me like a “buncha young hoodlums getting connected by social media” uprising. I’ll betcha half those kids have plenty of money for the crap they’re stealing. They certainly seem to have the computers, phones, and internet service to get those messages.
Twitter and Facebook may be great for getting instant news out, but there’s a downside..
^You might be right. And having to start paying for some of things their government can no longer afford can easily be used as an excuse to go steal stuff from “rich stores”.
I’ll give you that, Al. As you know, I support government programs for the needy, but I’m not so stupid as to think some folks haven’t become unrealistically dependent on the dole.
There’s a a “black and white” discussion between the left and the right in this country: One side wants to flush all programs, and one wants to pretend there’s an endless supply of it. The gray area between the two is more complicated than most idiots on cable news want to deal with in their five minutes of air time..
Good for Ed..he came down on Tina Brown, too. Go after Michele Bachmann on her record..bring up the many times she’s applied for the government support she rails against. That’s fair. Publishing a “crazy cover” with the title, “The Queen Of Rage”, is ridiculous.
I originally tweeted to someone that “it’s not sexist, she looks like that.” I was wrong. She may indeed have the wide-eyed thing going oftentimes, but they wouldn’t have done that to a man. It’s sexist, and it’s a cheap shot.
Any lib who treats Bachmann as a joke is sorely mistaken. You may not believe as she believes, but she’s not screwing around. She truly believes her stuff, which is more than I can say about much of her “tell them what they want to hear” competition. She’s for real, and shouldn’t be underestimated. Obama could take a lesson, and better start learning fast..
This race is a win win for Bachmann. If she doesn’t become the Republican nominee (unlikely) she has increased her political profile enough that she could still run against Amy Klobuchar for Senate in 2012. I doubt she could beat Klobuchar but she has no chance of getting into the House leadership so a run for statewide office may be the best bet for her while she is the flavor of the month for conservatives.
The cover isn’t necessarily “sexist”. The left hates Bachmann because she’s a conseervative woman, not just because she’s a woman. It’s the exact same way they treat conservative minorities. The left believes they own women and minorities so when a minority or female conservative comes out against liberalism as strongly as Bachmann does, it not acceptable.
Oh please, have you ever heard of Elizabeth Dole? Conservative women have been prominent in politics for decades..nobody on the left thinks they “own” them. What a silly comment.
Elizabeth Dole? You do live in a happy little world, don’t you? She’s about as ‘conservative’ as her husband is, and Lonestar is absolutely right. Besides, the cover bit them in the ass, so it worked for Bachmann.
Look, this is getting ridiculous. I don’t give a flip that there’s a group of righties out there who consider every Republican before the Tea Party came along a RINO, the left knows ALL Republicans as “conservative”..includine Mr. and Mrs. Dole.
To say that we think we “own” women is a massively stupid comment. The stupid cover is a stupid sexist attempt to make Michele Bachmann look like a crazy lady. It has nothing to do with the left thinking she’s crazy for not being a liberal. Give. Me. A break.
Btw, the next time I criticize the left in defense of a conservative woman, do me a favor and refrain from insulting me with “no, you’re wrong, it’s even worse than you think..the left hates all conservative women simply because they’re not liberal”. What’s the point of trying to be fair to your side when you just pile on anyway? It’s rude.
Liberals frequently refer to conservative women and minorities as traitors to their race, gender, whatever. We didn’t imagine it, and it’s very much a part of the animosity displayed toward various candidates, including Palin. It also makes them an acceptable target of racism/sexism from the Left, at least in their minds.
The left can’t accept women an minorities as conservatives. That’s why NOW rarely defends attacks on conservative women and why the NAACP rarely defends attacks on black conservatives. Black conservatives receive worse treatment than do conservative women but not by much.
As for your Elizabeth Dole comment, you may as well throw Olympia Snowe in there too.
Don’t get mad at me when you don’t like hearing the truth. Yea for you, you criticized the left. That doesn’t mean I can’t point out that the left has a long history of treating conservative women & minorities like sh!t.

Dylan Ratigan went on an epic rant on yesterday’s show over political corruption, verbally assassinating both political parties.
I wonder when he’ll be joining Keith at Current.

I hate commercials where it sounds as though the dogs are eating better than people. Hey, pet owners! They drink out of the toilet!
