More CBS Morning Rumors…
Page Six on Saturday wrote an item on what CBS is mulling doing about it’s morning timeslot. Once again the usual “CBS wants Morning Joe” storyline was trotted out but what caught my attention was this…
Sources say Licht has tapped his vast Rolodex to court a number of TV personalities, including CNN’s Erin Burnett and Ali Velshi. “They are casting their net wide,” an insider told us. Burnett declined an offer to host “Early Show” to join CNN, where she’s launching a 7 p.m. show on Monday. Rose, 69, is the newest name to be brought into the debate.
Charlie Rose to CBS would be wierd but what I found interesting is the Ali Velshi angle. This isn’t the first time this year that Velshi’s future has come up.

If CBS had a way of poaching Anderson Cooper, he and current co-host Erica Hill would make a good pair. But Cooper is locked in with CNN/Warner Brothers, and I doubt CBS would be able to top his current salary.

Josh, I totally agree with you. If they Offered Cooper a 3-fer To co anchor Early, Evening and segments for 60 I think they would’ve picked him up. Because that’s essentially the 3 gigs now, and he would’ve been great with Hill. Now would that get CBS out from 3rd, I don’t think so, But he does have name value, since klein promoted the hell out of him at CNN. I think he’s over rated but because of the promotion and lack of talent at CNN he gets a top tier image. I just feel bad for Hill once they relaunch Early again whenever.

Rumours of Velshi for a CBS morning show? Well, thunder only happens when it’s raining.

I first became familiar with Charlie Rose when he hosted CBS News Nightwatch, the overnight news program which eventually evolved into Up to the Minute.
Back when Charlie hosted, Nightwatch was basically a magazine show with mostly interviews, sort of like Tom Snyder’s Tomorrow and it seems like they had a headlines at the top of the hour, sort of like Today.
IOW: Nighwatch was somewhat similar to the breakfast shows, except they had longer segments, better interviews and less mainstream guests. Considering his experience, history and ongoing relationship with CBS, it’s certainly worth considering, but at this stage, I doubt Rose would take the gig.
