The New York Observer’s Ken Stoeffel interviews Dylan Ratigan…

Mr. Ratigan was down at Zuccotti Park most of last weekend, interviewing participants and chatting them up about his new crusade on behalf of campaign finance reform. Late last month, Mr. Ratigan established a foundation called Get Money Out with the goal of amending the Constitution to forbid private campaign contributions. Since September 27, he’s racked up more than 170,000 signatures.

“Some love it, some hate it,” he told Off the Record of the protesters.

But he’s not asking them to organize around his cause, or any other one, for that matter.

“The desire to create a list of demands is a function of those who are threatened, trying to put them in a box,” Mr. Ratigan explained.

  1. “with the goal of amending the Constitution to forbid private campaign contributions”

Upon ratification, just dust off and tweak the Volstead Act for enforcement.

Sooo… people who are trying to figure out what the heck it is that these protesters are saying, what they want, and why there there, are wrong? The protesters, their vague demands and unclear goals are to be celebrated by those who, um, agree with vague demands?

WOO! I support the protesters for some reason I cannot accurately explain, because I’m not sure what they stand for! WOO!

  3. From taking away first amendment protections to praising amorphous obscurity, this is exactly the sort of ‘analysis’ one expects from a great thinker like D-Rat.

  4. Making a virtue of ignorant cluelessness. Perfect approach for the college-Left.

  5. “The desire to create a list of demands is a function of those who are threatened, trying to put them in a box,” Mr. Ratigan explained.

That is one of the more bizarre comments I’ve ever read from a journalist/commentator/analyst (whatever Mr. Ratigan is).

He’s actually supporting the idea of less information about a news event or movement and not more.

Asking OWS about its agenda, its public policy views, its program is, in Ratigan’s view, a bad idea. One he opposes.

    Wow.

He sounds more like a PR representative for OWS than someone covering them.

  6. Hey blue, if you (like the rest of the brain dead “liberal” media) can’t figure out what the protestors are protesting, do some research for once. Go to the Occupy Wall Street website, read one of their 20 explanations as to what they believe in and why they are protesting in the first place. It’s not exactly brain surgery to figure out, but when it comes to you, I don’t know if you’re just too lazy or ignorant to connect the dots.
