Survey Says…

Posted in Miscellaneous Subjects on November 2, 2011 by icn2

News on News Kevin Coy writes about Synote PAX Survey results which probably won’t sit well with CNNI, CNBC Asia, and Bloomberg Asia…

The BBC has the highest international news reach among loyal audiences (45.4%) and is the only news brand that’s growing within this highly engaged sector. The weekly and daily combined reach from the BBC is up 18 per cent from last survey, whilst the monthly and daily combined reach (31.9%) is up by 25 per cent.

The BBC also holds the dominant reach among target audiences for Wealth Management, outperforming leading business media in Asia. BBC’s digital platform, BBC.com, impressively ranks as the #1 media website by PAX not only among up-market elites, but also among key target sectors such as Purchase Decision Maker, High Net Worth Individual, PMEB, Frequent Traveller and Opinion Leader.

HLN’s Conrad Murray Gambit Pays Off (Unfortunately)…

Posted in Miscellaneous Subjects on November 1, 2011 by icn2

HLN is noting its October numbers and how its Conrad Murray Trial Coverage paid off, thus proving once and for all that network programmer cynicism can never underestimate TV viewer stupidity. Hey Time Warner…if you keep allowing HLN to go wall to wall on court cases I have to ask why the hell did you gut Court TV for because HLN is becoming more and more like Court TV with each successive trial you let it carry.

CNN Finally Lands Robin Meade…

Posted in CNN, HLN on November 1, 2011 by icn2

Although it was only for about half an hour. This morning on HLN Meade had an interview with Herman Cain. The Cain interview was set up well beforehand but he stuck with it despite yesterday’s ruckus over the sexual harassment allegations. Well CNN, deciding to really play up what its estranged sister network* did, brought Meade over to talk with Suzanne Malveaux as they replayed almost the entire HLN interview. To add further weight to the seriousness the network was taking this Wolf Blitzer was brought in from Washington for analysis.

Typical CNN overkill? Yes but also a shrewdly smart tie-in opportunity to feature Meade on CNN and show CNN news viewers what Morning Express has to offer even though in theory that could mean CNN viewers defecting to HLN which doesn’t help CNN’s morning woes any.

The interview can be seen here. Video of Meade’s appearance on CNN is not online apparently.

* – By “estranged sister network” I mean HLN is moving further and further away from CNN in terms of subject matter and content and CNN is paying less and less attention to HLN as a result of this move, except when it suits it. Like today. It’s not as bad as the bad old days of the NBC News MSNBC relationship but it’s still pretty bad.

Update: Before anyone emails me or comments, yes I know this wasn’t really Meade’s first time on CNN. Work with me people!
