The end of HLN’s “Local Edition”…
TVNewser’s Alex Weprin writes about HLN ending its 5 minute “Local Edition” breaks…
It is the end of an era at HLN, as the network has told its cable partners that it is pulling “Local Edition,” the five-minute segments at the bottom of every half-hour dedicated to local news and programming.
In a statement to TVNewser, the network laid out why it was choosing to stop carriage of the segments:
“Over the past several years, HLN has evolved its programming to focus more on long form shows, changing the programming format where Local Edition currently airs. After assessing viewer feedback, foregoing Local Edition furthers our programming evolution and benefits the viewer experience.”

I cried when Howdy Doody went off the air for the last time as Clarabell the Clown waved and spoke the only words he ever said on the program, “Goodbye kids.”
This, not so much.

How much longer is it going to take to get the local edition off the air? I live in Reston, Virginia where Comcast Cable is my provider. They continually broadcast what they call Comcast Newsmakers. It’s still being broadcast today.

I am so happy to hear that those annoying local news breaks are getting axed. I have stopped watching many HLN programs because it is so aggravating to hear a promo then never get to hear the actual story because it is cut to run the local news. There is absolutely nothing that happens locally that needs to be rerun twice every hour. Good riddance to the local edition … it was a horrible idea!
