  1. Here come the mice!

  2. This is gonna be so GREAT! Now, when the opposing administration doesn’t like you, they have one more tool! And that’s just for starters.

‏@FoxBusiness Exclusive: IRS officials tell FBN the Supreme Court health-care ruling gives the IRS more power than initially thought. http://fxn.ws/N1VTLE

Is it really that big of a deal that CNN & FNC got the SCOTUS thing wrong yesterday? They were reporting what they were hearing and what they were hearing was that the mandate was struck down before Roberts made it magically appear. Anyway, I guess I don’t get all bent of shape about these sorts of things. It seems like an honest mistake.

  4. I again. I was watching FNC as they were basically reading the opinion aloud as soon as they got it in their hands. That was the excitement of as a live event as the viewer were in on the experience. It was clear what they were doing and the results that the mandate was left constitutional was ver quickly established. I thought it was handled well with no need to appologize.

  5. - SCOTUS oopsie -

Aside from the fact that it seems totally emblematic of our news and politics today, and thus, in a way, expected, it’s not that big of a deal.

  6. lonestar77 Says:

I watched the 1st 3 quarters of Hardball yesterday but didn’t see Matthews’ finishing act. Did he say he no longer thinks this court wants to re-institute segregation? The parts I did hear (radio) he was purty thrilled about Justice Roberts.

  7. bushleaguer Says:

FNC and CNN’s error was not the worst thing to happen by any stretch…..but as far as FNC goes it was good to have Megyn Kelly there to reign them in as she knows that these decisions are very complicated and you can’t figure out how this went just by skimming the first page.

  8. “Is it really that big of a deal that CNN & FNC got the SCOTUS thing wrong yesterday?”

^^ For CNN it’s a big deal. Pete Williams at MSNBC got it right so there’s no reason CNN couldn’t. And CNN went on for some time before catching the mistake.

At FNC it’s no big deal as we don’t expect as much from them. If Megyn Kelly hadn’t saved them they might still be high-fiving.

  9. Question here: The ACA (Obamatax) originated in the Senate as part of a budget bill and passed by “reconciliation”, which is why they only needed 51 votes and not 60.

The Constitution says all “taxes” must originate in the House of Representatives. Does this in any way open the door for another kick at the can to say that this can not take affect since this tax originated in the Senate?

    Just asking!

  10. erich500 Says:

Republicans/conservatives can’t simply be opposed to the PPACA/Obamacare. You need to offer an alternative as well.

If you want to govern this country, govern, don’t just say what you’re against; say what you’re for too.

We need a new social model for government. The old model – let’s call it the “Blue Model” (blue for Democrats; red for Republicans) – served us pretty well for a half century. But it’s no longer affordable nor responsive to the changes we’ve had (e.g., globalization, demographics, technological).

But people will stick with the blue model if they’re not given another.

    Get to it.

  11. SE Cupp was a rising star at FNC, and is about to become a much bigger one with the one cable news network willing to give her a show. That that network turned out to be MSNBC blows my mind. I can’t wait for her Lean Forward ad…

  12. My eye surgeon told me today that some of the parts of ObamaCare already gone into effect are allowing coverage rejections as “minimal, patient’s responsibility” that traditionally are covered. There’s a bad moon on the rise.

  13. Gregg Jarrett is a smarmy ass. Was it really necessary to mention that Colorado is a swing-state, with the unstated implication that Obama’s visit has something to do with that? But God help him if he doesn’t show up.

  14. Maybe Obama will throw the Afforable Heath Care Act on the fire and smother it.

  15. Maybe Jarrett’s just in full ‘smarm’ mode over the Holmes/Cruise divorce. God, he’s annoying.

  16. Good thing Jarrett is a straight journalist. Looks like he’s ready to host Fox News Watch.

  17. Tom Cruise is a straight actor.

  18. savefarris Says:

Could someone please buy Eric a subscription to Google so he can look up ‘The Paul Ryan Plan’?

  19. There’s a fine line between charming cynicism and flaming @sshole. Shep has it. Most don’t.

  20. Oo, Toure took a shot at Glenn Beck. Is SE still working for him?

  21. erich500 Says:

“Could someone please buy Eric a subscription to Google so he can look up ‘The Paul Ryan Plan’?”

Medicare reform is not healthcare reform.

  22. Dismantling Medicare and handing old folks a ckeck and a “good luck!” is not Medicare reform.

  23. Letting Medicare go broke is not Medicare reform. It is liberals in action, though.

  24. CANDLES IN THE WIND, origionally written about Marilyn Monroe, can now be adapted to all funerals, except maybe pyromania victims.

  25. Tom Cruise misunderstood what Katie meant when she said “I’ve decided to get clear.” That’s a Scientology joke. Also kind of a Larry Kelly joke.

  26. Which means everyone but me and you will hate it :)

  27. To give you an idea of Matt Drudge’s influence these days, he just posted this on his web page:

THANKS FOR MAKING YESTERDAY 2ND BIGGEST DAY IN DRUDGEREPORT’S 17 YEAR HISTORY! PAGE WAS VIEWED 45,233,974 TIMES, FROM 115 COUNTRIES…

  28. DOJ won’t pursue contempt charges. Congratulations, Republicans, you just wasted months of time and wasted taxpayer money for nothing. Idiots.

  29. For the record, idiots is not the original word I had typed out. :)

  30. ^ “Willards”?

  31. @laura: “Richard Craniums” works. That’s a good PC term.

  32. But golly, at least Issa prevented the administration from pursuing that gun control measure they’ve never hinted at but we know it’s true oh yes we do.

  33. erich500 Says:

The Justice Department lies to Congress about a vast gun running operation that led to the death of one American and dozens of Mexicans and the Republicans are to blame for trying to find out who was covering up the matter?

I’ll have to disagree with that conclusion.

  34. The DOJ is covering for the Admin. How shocking.

  35. Conservatives are now blaming the Justice Roberts health care ruling on his issue with epilepsy. As someone who has suffered through epileptic seizures, that is absolutely disgusting and anybody making that claim, just to play their version of pathetic politics, deserves a fist in their face.

  36. erich500 Says:

The ATF carries out a disastrously-run gun operation that led to the loss of hundreds of weapons to Mexican drug cartels. And numerous deaths.

Congress asks Justice about this and is told there was no such operation.

Then later Justice – including AG Holder – admits, “Yeah, there was such an operation but we ended it.”

And Congress has no oversight on what the heck happened? They want to find out who covered up this operation and Justice refuses to give them the information.

Nope, Congress isn’t causing this mess.

  37. Last I heard, it was Michael Savage who made the epilepsy-related claim. He’s a farking loon, and I should hope that no one of any greater significance is saying it.

  38. erich500 Says:

“The DOJ is covering for the Admin. How shocking.”

They may or may not be. But to state that the Republicans are the cause of this is absurd.

If Justice didn’t lie about it they’d never have to worry about releasing these documents.

Let’s put the responsibility on the right party here.

This isn’t Democrat or Republican; this is our government screwing up royally.

  39. imnotblue Says:

Yeah… the Admin said they had no intentions of imposing some new gun control legislation.

They also the the ACA wasn’t a tax.

    Hmm.

  40. Until Issa actually starts investigating the people who ran whatever-the-hell the operation was, it’s a political hack job. With the NRA scoring the results. Hmm…

  41. erich500 Says:

Yeah, when he asks for documents he gets stonewalled.

    Or lied to.

Not everything is Democrat vs. Republican and my side is all good and the other side is all bad.

Although you’re certainly free to think so – as you’ve admitted.

  42. Liberals only care about coverups when it’s not their peope doing it. Not true about conservatives. Plenty signed on to Watergate and even Iran-Contra investigations however reluctantly. Again, it’s the liberal whateverittakes attitude where conservatives stand for truth, justice, and the American way.

ProgLib wants to hit people. Even hitting Michael Savage is probably wrong.

  43. erich500 Says:

    ^Sometimes you’re Joe’s doppelganger.

That may or may not be a compliment.

  44. I don’t not care about a coverup. What bothers me is the facts about what actually happened on the ground don’t seem to be of interest to anyone, and considering an agent is dead, that’s not acceptable.

  45. You can’t handle the facts that Holder lied to Congress for ten months about there being a gun walking operation bebause of an attempted cover-up.

  46. The fact you don’t care about the coverup is neither surprising nor relevant.

  47. Erich, you know that I am Joe’s sock-puppet and that we are both insane?

  48. savefarris Says:

Congratulations, joe: you just gave future AG Scott Walker (or some other boogeyman) permission to stonewall Congress. Gee, I sure hope he doesn’t use his newfound “rights” to cover up something important!

  49. erich500 Says:

“Erich, you know that I am Joe’s sock-puppet and that we are both insane?”

    And the alternative explanation is……………..?

  50. You’re insane.

  51. Pretty much shows how the strictest gun control laws in the nation are working in Chicago:
    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/06/29/ministers-urge-people-to-turn-in-gunman-who-killed-girl-7/

  52. - Congratulations, Joe -

Thanks. For nothing. None of you read what I wrote.

  53. It’s too far above our grade-level.

  54. carolmr Says:

“Gregg Jarrett is a smarmy ass. Was it really necessary to mention that Colorado is a swing-state, with the unstated implication that Obama’s visit has something to do with that? But God help him if he doesn’t show up.” – Laura

What’s wrong with mentioning CO is a swing state? Is that something only an opinion journalist can mention? It happens to be a fact. We’ve been on fire for almost a month and today President Obama finally deigns to show up? Gee, thanks.

  55. Pam: The Constitution says all “taxes” must originate in the House of Representatives.

In principle, you are correct that the legislation originated in the US Senate but, technically, it was a House bill.

Reader’s Digest version: In 2009 Rep Charlie Rangel (D, NY) introduced HR 3590 ”An Act to amend the Internal. Revenue Code of 1986 to modify the first-time homebuyers credit in the case of members of the Armed Forces.” This bill passed the house and was taken up in the senate. Senate Majority Ldr Harry Reid (D, NV) gutted this bill, renamed it “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”, and entirely rewrote the legislation behind closed doors. It passed both houses and was signed into law by Pres. Obama.

There might be a case here, I suppose. I’m not a lawyer, but my guess is that the Court consider this a non-justicable political question. That is, if the House of Representatives as a body believed its constitutional role was thwarted by the Other Body then they could have easily rejected it.

  56. Yes Pam, it was a stupid, partisan thing to say. No one with a brain believes POTUS would decide to show up at a disdaster site based on whether he needed their vote or not. Especially since the same attack can be lobbed no matter which state it was: “President Obama visited the earthquake site in California today, no doubt to show support for a state that always votes Democratic..”

  57. -SE Cupp was a rising star at FNC-

I don’t think SE Cupp ever worked for FNC. Even when she was on there somewhat regularly she was also showing up on the other channels.

  58. I’d never heard of her until Olbermann made his nasty remark about her.

  59. I mean she became very popular among conservatives with her appearances at FNC. Usually the way this works is you eventually become a paid contributor. I’m stunned that she suddenly disappeared from the conservative channel, and ended up with a full-time gig at the liberal one. All week I’ve been watching “that girl from Red Eye” as co-host of her own show on the channel I watch most of the time. It’s just weird.

  60. Tomorrow’s news today: The worst storms I’ve ever experienced just did some massive damage in the DC region.

  61. Her last FNC appearance coincided with her show moving to GBTV. Having a side-gig on MSNBC fits with her contrarian schtick.

  62. I like that MSNBC went with a relevant young conservative, instead of the bumbling joke that The Five passes off as The Opposition. I also like that they didn’t settle on a No Labels “let’s all get along” Republican libs would tolerate while conservatives scoffed. SE is very right wing, and very in your face about it on The Cycle. It’s startling, and good for MSNBC’s audience.

  63. Not sure who “bumbling joke” refers to as everyone on The Five, except perhaps Gutfeld, had/has an accomplished career prior to getting on television.

Cupp is good for MSNBC. She’s a clear thinker more than a conservative and she has the sass to hold even an audience who disagrees with her. .

  64. Beckel. Yes, he’s had a distinguished career..I vaguely recall it from my teen years. What he is now is a doofus for FNC viewers to sneer at. It’s extremely condescending to liberals. Ha ha..we get the joke.

  65. “SE is very right wing, and very in your face about it on The Cycle. It’s startling, and good for MSNBC’s audience.” – joeremi

I agree, Joe. I just hope Toure can tone down his obvious dislike for her. I wish Chris Matthews had the courage to have SE as a guest on Hardball, instead of his usual stream of yes-men (and women).

  66. Beckel doesn’t seem like a doofus to me. He has his tough nice guy persona, of course, but he always gets to the substance of his argument and does so well.

  67. Al: You may be right..I haven’t watched The Five in quite a while.

Carol: The whole crew seemed calmer today. Toure visibly lightened up on SE, like it dawned on him that this is an opportunity for all of them, and being a shrieking idiot towards her isn’t a good plan. She’s likable, and I think he may be realizing this.

Blue, if you’re reading: I hate having to do this, but I apologize. I don’t appreciate the arm-chair psycho-analysis, but yeah, I’ve been a little bent lately. I’ve done some pretty dumb stuff in my time, but threatening legal action over a blog comment takes the cake. Who says I’m crazy..?

  68. Case dismissed without prejudice.

  69. My cabin has been without power for 12 hours now and the neighbors have it pretty bad too:

Will venture back from Northeast Ohio tomorrow to clean out the fridge. Unfortunately the generator went on the fritz. Alas, not on Fritz3.

  70. paminwi Says:

joe: you bit** about people really reading what you wrote so you attribute something to me that I never wrote or commented about you insufferable a**hole.

Please, if it does not take up too much of your precious ranting time go back and check it out.

  71. Pam, you said Jarrett was right to insinuate the prez had an ulterior motive for visiting Colorado. You’re both wrong, you insufferable bit**.

  72. lonestar77 Says:

Bumbling joke? Beckel is awesome. Seriously.

  73. paminwi Says:

a**holejoe: please tell me at what time did I make a post like that? If you are so sure I did please note the day and time!!!

I never once made any comment about Greg Jarett!

  74. Ah geez, I’m on a roll..guess I better stop posting for a while. You’re right, Pam, I’m an a**hole. It was someone else who said it.

  75. An a**hole on a roll sounds like something that should be airing on MSNBC right about now.

  76. Nice to see Joey keeping it classy!

  77. Talk about the left’s war on women! Good going, Joey

  78. She called me an a**hole first, a**hole..just because I responded to the wrong person. Stfu.

  79. In*ufferable a**hole, to be preci*e.

  80. He did.

  81. So many stars, for such a warm night.

  82. Fewer stars the UK way, so next time I’ll spell it assh*le.
