Blogus Interruptus…
Two boxes of computer pars arrived yesterday from Newegg and you know what that means…it’s going to be a very busy next few days for me as I get my new system built and running properly. Blogging resumes Monday…if everything is working.

If corporations had no rights – as some folks believe – then the city of Chicago could deny Chick-fil-A a license simply because of the views that the company promotes or advocates. No rights, no license.
But they do have rights – indeed, this is a textbook case of why they must – and as such the government can’t deny them a license because the corporation is against legalized SSM or for legalized SSM or for leprechauns.
Court is adjourned.
‘Though I suspect there will be dissenting views.
July 26, 2012 at 2:44 pm
You might think that Rahm would be a bit more circumspect when talking “values”, with the current issues that his city faces. If I were a Chick-Fil-A franchisee, I’d take the hint and be elsewhere.

I saw a post from someone who lives in Chicago stating that there’s a Chick-fil-A franchise on the southside. It’s been there for at least two years: http://www.cfarestaurant.com/loyolawatertower/home
This would have been the second one.
I support SSM but as Instapundit points out: “What I think is funny is that if you have the same view on gay marriage that Obama had when he was elected, now you’re an enemy of humanity or something.”

July 26, 2012 at 3:16 pm
And the fact that they choose to conflate oppo to g@y marriage with employee discrimination shows how dishonest they are. That will be the template, from here on out. Chick-Fil-A hates g@ys, and discriminates at every opportunity.

Same. Full system specs:
Corsair Carbide 300R Tower
FSP 600W 80+ Gold Rating PSU
Intel 5750K Ivy Bridge
ASUS Z77 V LX Motherboard
16 Gigs of RAM
EVGA GTX 570HD
Two Plextor SSDs (125G and 256G respectively)
Plextor Blu-Ray Burner
Aver Media HD Component Video Capture board
Firewire board for legacy DV Camcorder capture (haven’t gone HD in the Camcorder department yet)
This thing should scream with that much RAM and the SSDs. It’s more power than I need 75% of the time…except when I’m editing video. Then that speed matters.

What are you editing with? According to the engineers where I work, they said just go with Premier since I’m not doing any heavy editing, so I have a CS6 suite sitting in a box waiting to be installed (thank God my gf works for a school system, or that would have cost 4x as much). I skipped the capture unit for now, but will upgrade that before long.

July 27, 2012 at 2:21 pm
Laura, most Christians don’t hate gays. The Bible speaks against those relationships, and we are supposed to “fear the Lord” and hate what He hates, love what He loves.
FYI, God also hates divorce, and that is certainly a hypocrisy in the Christian church today. The Bible is rife with Scripture that prohibits remarriage after divorce (in many, but not all cases). So the Christian church abhors gay marriage, but glosses over this admonishment against remarriage.
I have a couple of distant relatives who are gay. I wish they were not; I can carry on a conversation with them, agree to disagree with them, and I pray for them. But they are nice guys, and there’s absolutely no reason I would hate to hate them. I have been in various Christian churches over the years and have NEVER heard anyone speak against gays in a hateful way. The marriage thing is just a way of validating a way of life that is contrary to God’s Word.

Sorry about typos, above. I typed this over to get by moderation. But you guys know what I mean!
July 27, 2012 at 2:29 pm
But you must understand that the current liberal ‘wisdom’ is that opposing g marriage means that you hate gs. It’s the same way they approach every other minority issue, so I guess it’s consistent.
July 27, 2012 at 2:35 pm
I shouldn’t post while distracted! Bottom line, hate the sin, love the sinner.
Behaviors that I’m more preoccupied with and abhor include ungratefulness, lying, theft, cruelty to animals, people taking credit for things they have no right to, gossip, etc.
And one more thing: Why is Chick-fil-A being now crucified for holding a position that 0bama himself held less than two months ago?
July 27, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Laura, I apologize. Sarcasm isn’t always evident to me! (I guess that makes me “special needs” – a protected class! Maybe I’ll go get me some 0bama money!)
July 27, 2012 at 2:44 pm
The question is, why is the CEO of a restaurant chain speaking out against same-sex marriage? That’s not simple opposition. You’d have to be pretty angry at g*ys to pipe up out of the blue like that. Sounds like hatred to me.
July 27, 2012 at 2:48 pm
If we’re going to put certain behaviors on a sliding scale (and I probably shouldn’t), I’m much more concerned about single-parenthood and broken families than I ever was or would be about who people go to bed with. And if two people want to be together and call themselves “married”, I couldn’t begin to care less. Public policy is a whole other thing.

“Eating the last Cheeze-IT sounds like hatred to me.”
Larry, are you calling Missy (the real Missy, a white cat) a hater?
Actually, she hates cat food, and I’ve had find other foods over the years that she will eat. And guess what – Cheez Its are one of her favorites! And when they’re gone, she certainly hates her mom and cries until I get her some more.

“I’m against the change.”
“Hey! Stop causing controversy!”

“Why is Chick-fil-A being now crucified”
Because hate takes a lot out of you and between FOX News, the Koch Brothers, Bain, Small Business Owners, Frackers, George Zimmermann, Scott Walker, Swiss bankers, and Michelle Bachman, Democrats need someone they can portray as Emmanuel Goldstein for a couple of weeks until it’s someone else’s turn.

Too bad Chick-fil-a doesn’t operate in Canada because I would buy some of their products (though they would be chicken-free) to support them. Then again, they’d probably face what Mark Steyn faced except with a less positive outcome.
July 27, 2012 at 3:40 pm
I think that it is the instinctive labeling of opinions as “hatred” that might be the issue. Responding in kind by calling-back a discussion of Mormonism isn’t much help either.

So it turns out Holmes was seeing a psychiatrist specializing in schizophrenia. A common thread between Aurora, Tucson, and Virginnia Tech is that if a system had been in place to report mental illness of that extreme to the data base used in the federal gun background check, none of the three shooters could have purchased their firearms. Such a system needs to be in place. Even the NRA favors it. Advocates for the mentally ill have opposed it.

Larry, the NRA may favor that common sense approach, but the fringe nuts (the ones who have more semi-automatic weapons than many 3rd world dictatorships) who fund it do not want ANY restrictions. Not even that.
July 27, 2012 at 5:29 pm
In case my answer to Blue was too vague, knowing the CEO is a religious man who was asked his opinion changes my opinion slightly. I still think it was a bonehead move – alienating customers isn’t a bright idea – but I don’t consider it hateful.
I also don’t consider remaining popular in the deep south to be a significant development. Do they have restaurants anywhere else? I’ve never seen one.
July 27, 2012 at 5:31 pm
And when sane people call you out, you have a massive hissy fit of epic proportions.

Larry, I never compared LDS to Jonestown. There’s plenty of cult religions in the world with very different characteristics. Scientology isn’t known for being run by a murderous lunatic, either, but it’s still a cult.

Chick-Fil-A has restaurants all over Ohio. The boy in my household is one of the top high school wrestlers in the state, so We go to a lot of tournaments. Some run from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The high point of the day if our kid loses is the Chick-Fil-A sandwichs provided in the food service areas. They are a staple of all the best tourneys and sell out fast.

202 in GA. Second to Texas. That would be chicken, not cults.
July 27, 2012 at 6:44 pm
“Cult” is a definition, not a pejorative. I have no idea why this topic keeps coming up in discussions unrelated to why I introduced it. Months ago we were discussing how Romney would fare amongst Born Again Cristian voters. I said I thought it would be a problem (I was wrong) because most Evangelicals consider LDS a cult, as do I. That’s it. Stop bringing it up.

July 27, 2012 at 7:41 pm
From the oh so conservative Huffington Post:
In the popular lexicon today, then, “cult” has come to be a pejorative, its definition political rather than sociological, designed to marginalize whatever religion it might be leveled at. It means, more or less, any religion that the speaker finds distasteful. But more, the things Americans choose to attack “cults” for generally reflect the Protestant bias that rests deep in American public life: fear of hierarchy, distrust of religious ritual and discomfort with seemingly odd doctrine. Not surprisingly, these are all concerns Americans who suspect that Mormons blindly follow their leaders, or credulously embrace strange doctrine, routinely express.
But they are also accusations that Roman Catholicism, some variants of Judaism and any other number of non-Protestant religions in America have faced over the past century. And it may be no surprise, then, that some fundamentalist American Protestants have in the past labeled both of these religions — far more venerable than Mormonism — cults. Catholics, so the accusations went, worshiped the Virgin Mary and turned over their moral compass to the pope. This is why many Americans feared electing John F. Kennedy president in 1960. Furthermore, Jews performed strange rituals and wore odd clothing. But today the number of Americans outside the fundamentalist community that would call Orthodox Jews or Roman Catholics cultists is surely tiny.
July 27, 2012 at 7:49 pm
That’s a lovely story, Larry. It’s also meaningless. It presumes that either all religions are viable, or none are. Then it caims the problem is Protestant bias. Uh, it’s painfully obvious that I am speaking as a Protestant, ansd was speaking ABOUT them all those months ago. According to my religion, adding to the Bible is an abomination. That’s what Joseph Smith did. In my opinion, it’s a cult. Get over it.

Look man, it’s not rare in Protestant churches. The dude came down from a mountain in the 1800s claiming Jesus told him to add to the Bible. That did not happen, and most Christians agree with me. I don’t care that you think I should accept LDS as a legitimate representation of Jesus Christ. I don’t, and never will.
I have no idea why you keep bringing this up. It was only relevant to the discussion in which I brought it up in. Months ago. Stifle.
July 27, 2012 at 11:12 pm
Two things I found interesting here.
1. MSNBC considered this a “soft launch” before the Olympics break. They’re gonna run videos the next two Mondays introducing the hosts, then return after the Olympics with a bigger table (which they sorely need).
2. Toure denies he’s a truther, claiming that Bush wasn’t smart enough to pull it off. I don’t know what he said in those tweets, but he’s clearly decided to back away from it.

Premiere Pro. I have CS4 but am upgrading to CS6. In fact it was CS6′s 4G RAM requirement that forced the move to a new system. And it is fast. A 7.6 out of a 7.9 on the Windows scale and the slowest part is the CPU!
July 28, 2012 at 5:36 am
I bring it up when you get on your soapbox of sanctimonious labeling others as racists or haters or bigots and you can’t see how much you are one when it suits your predjudiced disposition. And it will be back as your proclivity to bad mouth Mormonism has not changed. Tough titty.

Larry Kelly is a dolt. Databases don’t work because anyone can buy guns on the street. Unless of course when said person is flagged in the database their immediately arrested for pre-crime, eh.
Chick filet is in the local mall food court and has a couple stand alone stores in the area. I like the chicken sandwich but their waffle fries are crap. That said, I’m not going there anymore because haters deserve to lose business.
July 28, 2012 at 10:45 am
^Thank God you don’t like the fries.
Having to give up both a chicken sandiwch and fries to fight hate would break a lot of men. They’d just crumble.
Some men storm beaches in a war. Some face fire hoses and dogs. But your sacrifice is on another level.
I’m guessing you can try the McDonald’s chicken sandiwches.

Erich500, naa — McDonalds is 100% crap. For years, Chick filet was only in the mall which is a good 10 mile round trip from my house.
Really, the only fast food I crave is Krystal but the nearest one is a 30 mile round trip from my house.
Btw, when logging in I have to hover and wait for twitter to popup because its invisible along with wordpress and facebook. What’s that all about?

“Larry Kelly is a dolt. Databases don’t work because anyone can buy guns on the street. Unless of course when said person is flagged in the database their immediately arrested for pre-crime, eh.”
At least the three crazy killers in the last three mass shootings would have been denied the purchase of their handguns from the FFL DEALERS that sold them. Nothing wrong with making dangerous schizophrenics weapons purchase more difficult. Criminals and nuts will always find a way to buy guns, but neither should be able to do so with ease. Obama has closed down the lemonade stands on my street, and I haven’t seen the neighbor kids sell Glocks for a while.
And one more thing… bite me.

Obama: “If 218 members of the House vote the right way, 98% of American families and 97% of small business owners will have the certainty of knowing that that their income taxes will not go up next year.”
Boehner’s response, if he was smart: “If 5 Democrats in the Senate vote the right way, 100% of American Families and 100% of small business owners will have the certainty of knowing that their income taxes will not go up next year.”
July 28, 2012 at 1:11 pm
Larry Kelly, any one of the drug dealers on the street will either have a gun for sale or know where to get one. FYI, drug dealers always get offered guns and other stuff in trade from junkies.
July 28, 2012 at 1:15 pm
Fine, so make them get their guns from contacts of drug dealers, but not at their local hardware store. Maybe the bad guys will off them.
July 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm
The US has too many guns on the street, in the stores, and in peoples homes. Sure, some are responsible gun owners but many aren’t and that’s why their guns are stolen or kids get killed by playing with them.
However, there is no putting that genie back in the bottle. The guns are here to stay so you and the rest of your Palin loving friends can relax.
Btw, I’m currently watching your girl Bristol’s reality show and these people are fruit cakes. Suprisingly, her show was moved to 11pm because of poor ratings. One would think the ‘right’ would support their heroes more.
July 28, 2012 at 1:32 pm
You have really bad taste in television. See what’s on the Discovery Channel, Turner Classic Movies, PBS, or just watch the Olympics.
July 28, 2012 at 1:43 pm
Bristol’s son ‘Tripp’ just dropped the f-bomb and he’s 3 years old! Gotta love that classy family. And Bristol did nothing but laughed.
I watched some tennis but could care less about any of the other. Also, I am a fan of women from all countries. Although I do like Christina McHale but she got dumped out in the first round.
July 28, 2012 at 1:47 pm
The Kennedy offspring would make a great reallity show if they could avoid killing themselves and others around them.
July 28, 2012 at 1:52 pm
^What’s with the attacks on the Palin family? It’s really unbecoming.
I can cite some pretty strange behavior among members of Barack Obama’s family. Certainly the Kennedys. The Reagans. The Bushes. Figures on the political left and the political right. But why do this? Just to attack the person?
Every family – every one – has problems, members who do strange things. Everyone.
I don’t get the point.
July 28, 2012 at 1:59 pm
I’m with you, Er, but those people didn’t put their foibles on display in quite the same fashion. You live by the reality-show, you die by it. In a manner of speaking, of course.
July 28, 2012 at 2:02 pm
Good point re the Palins. But as you know this took place long before they started this reality show tour.
Palin’s invited most of this – she’s an easy target and she’s shining a light on herself – but it’s still silly.
July 28, 2012 at 2:18 pm
I guess. On the other hand, where does a three-year-old learn that particular “f”-word anyway?
July 28, 2012 at 2:44 pm
television, the neighbor kids, it’s everywhere.
July 28, 2012 at 2:49 pm
At 3-years-old? No, it’s not “everywhere” with a responsible parent in the home.
July 28, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Agree. Not buying it. The other f-word is unfortunately common, not so much this one. You gotta be going there to get there.
July 28, 2012 at 3:14 pm
I’ve been watching Bristol’s show on DVR but can’t stomach anymore tonight. I have two more on there assuming the season/series finale is the last one.
Tripp actually called either his mom or aunt “something something F.” But, I don’t think it was used in correct context. (He was censored with the obligatory beep!) Yet, from a 3 year old its shocking and considering these people don’t live in trailer parks or the ghetto. I mean, aren’t they also GOD fearing church goers?
Talking about the Obama/Kennedy/Clinton or whatever does nothing for me. I don’t represent or condone those people.
Finally, calling out Larry Kelly for being a cabin loving righty is fair game. He has a Palin bumper sticker and won’t even defend his own “people!”
July 28, 2012 at 3:51 pm
It’s unacceptable. The kid knows that word because the family uses it.
July 28, 2012 at 4:28 pm
where does a three-year-old learn that particular “f”-word anyway?
In my home, that would be from the siblings, who learned it from other siblings who either learned it from friends at school or, just as likely, from me (there were many “bloody ‘ell”s coming from tiny voices – guess who they learned that from?). It doesn’t take long to teach kids where and when such language is unacceptable.
Anyone shocked by that doesn’t get out much.
July 28, 2012 at 4:29 pm
Anyone shocked by that doesn’t get out much.
Or is looking to be offended.
July 28, 2012 at 4:46 pm
Nobody’s shocked. Bristol has a history with derogatory references to h*m*sexuals. My daughter never heard that word uttered in her home by anybody.
July 28, 2012 at 5:23 pm
where does a three-year-old learn that particular “f”-word anyway?
Joe Biden?
July 28, 2012 at 5:59 pm
In some parts of the country the common parlance is, “You’re such a f*” and in other areas “You’re so g*” is the equivalent. While certainly derogatory, its usage often has little to do with its meaning.
July 28, 2012 at 6:11 pm
I was spanked but once in my life. I was five and sitting on the back porch. Some neighbor boys were swearing and were amused I would repeat what they said. I walked into the house spouting my new found knowledge. It just happend to be the night my parents had the minister over for supper.
July 28, 2012 at 6:14 pm
Not sure what kind of deal Bristol has with the production company and Lifetime TV. But, it seems to me she’d want to exercise some creative control and bury that comment by her 3 year old! Oh wait. Guess there is no shame in her game. Also, anyone that’s watched the show can tell Trip is not a very well behaved child and a spoiled brat.
Willow comes across as rather immature although she’s 17 when filming. Rather funny though how Willow told Bristol that her boyfriend is a d-bag. (Which I don’t happen to agree with from what I’ve seen and he’s miles ahead of Levi.)
Surprisingly, when Bristol isn’t yapping about hom0′s and liberal’s she seems to be thinking about her future.
July 28, 2012 at 6:35 pm
“where does a three-year-old learn that particular “f”-word anyway?
Joe Biden?”
That was priceless.
July 28, 2012 at 6:56 pm
“Reality” teevee participants usually have little or no control over how they are edited.
July 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm
The Palin family has no control over their desire to be famous at any cost.
July 28, 2012 at 7:15 pm
They seem to be having a good time of it. If they irritate simple minded liberals who watch them, well, that’s quite a plus.
July 28, 2012 at 7:34 pm
You all can just love on your white-trash reality-show empire all day long. Knock yourselves out. The Clampetts would be embarrassed at those people.
July 28, 2012 at 8:25 pm
Weekend thoughts:
NBC’s Olympics coverage sucks, all around. Being on tape delay for every important event (when they promised live coverage on NBCSN) isn’t any better.
NBC’s ticked off: The organizers of the London Olympics opening ceremony, the athletes and the viewers.
And, in NASCAR news, it’s time for Brian France to step down.
July 28, 2012 at 8:52 pm
Watching the local news tonight in my real-live white-trash area of Appalachian Ohio, I saw two stories of interest. Three volunteer firemen were arrested and charged with arson for burning down the old Airport Motel. Also a lady was arrested for attempting to trade her baby for a pickup truck. That makes four votes Obama will have to make up.
July 28, 2012 at 9:12 pm
Actually, that puts Obama four votes up.
July 28, 2012 at 9:51 pm
It’s beyond trashy. It’s called “I don’t give a sh|t about myself or my family, so long as the check clears”. You know, none of us would want a camera around when the three-year-old is being an ass. It’s easy to forget those days, but they’re not all angelic. And you look like the worst parent in the world, even if your name isn’t ‘Palin’. That kid is gonna grow up and be about as pleased as Jonathan Krohn, and he’ll have Mom and Grandma to thank. They can be the Right Wing Jacksons.
July 28, 2012 at 9:56 pm
The only reality programmes I can recall ever watching on the telly are Deadliest Catch & Storm Chasers. Well, I did catch 10 minutes of Whatever-her-name-is… Adam Housley’s wife and her sister because the DVR recorded the wrong channel.
July 28, 2012 at 10:08 pm
Hell, I wouldn’t have wanted a camera around this evening, with my almost-18-yr-old son. You don’t do that to a child, who then has to live with that image the rest of their lives. It’s abuse.
July 28, 2012 at 10:48 pm
It’s abuse.
Yes it is. I hope all these reality show kids grow up and sue the sh*t out of everybody.
July 29, 2012 at 3:55 am
I’ve really been enjoying HBO’s Newsroom. And of course completely in love with Alison Pill.
July 29, 2012 at 4:54 am
As I said earlier, you have horrible taste in TV. I’d suggest you read something instead, but that probably would give Larry Flynt extra income.
July 29, 2012 at 5:01 am
Reality TV is a bit like talk radio. Time not well spent. Commenting on blogs… much more enriching.
July 29, 2012 at 6:16 am
What is with the story that James Holmes was “in the process” of dropping out of his PhD program? Don’t you just quit, period?
July 29, 2012 at 6:18 am
In the society of liberals, you first apply for food stamps.
July 29, 2012 at 7:15 am
Larry Kelly – I don’t have horrible taste in tv. Actually, I watch a vast array of shows:
Breaking Bad, Fringe, Nurse Jackie, Californication, Dexter, Offspring (Australia), Necessary Roughness, Switched at Birth, Push Girls, The Newsroom, Shameless, Suits, Touch, Jane by Design, House of Lies, Rizzoli & Isles, Homeland, 2 Broke Girls, New Girl, Person of Interest, Lying Game, The Little Couple, The Good Wife, NCIS Los Angeles, Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, Blue Bloods, Covert Affairs, Fairly Legal.
July 29, 2012 at 7:21 am
Almost forgot. HBO’s ‘Girls’ is great!
July 29, 2012 at 8:09 am
Though most not of my taste, I would agree you have some quality shows mixed in your group.
July 29, 2012 at 8:10 am
Of the listed, I would rank DEXTER as my favorite.
July 29, 2012 at 8:26 am
Dexter hasn’t been on in so long I’m having trouble remembering. Didn’t Deb walk in on Dexter killing the church freak and that was the cliffhanger?
I also like Robert Irvine (Dinner, Restaurant Impossible) along with Hotel Impossible and Hotel Inspector (UK). And even though Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares is a ‘shell’ of the UK version its still entertaining. He also has a new show starting August 13th called Hotel Hell. Saw a preview where he slept in a sleeping bag zipped up due to fears of bed bugs. (Fox news tie in!)
July 29, 2012 at 9:58 am
I came late to the circus on Dexter and started with season one on DVD. I have the set for season two now. Even though I could watch the later stuff on SHOWTIME, I don’t want to watch out of sequence.
July 29, 2012 at 10:26 am
Yes, Deb walking in on Dexter killing the “church freak” was the big cliffhanger. Plus, the thing about Deb possibly being in love with her brother.
July 29, 2012 at 10:46 am
Thanks, Lonestar!
Didn’t mean to spoil it for ya, Larry Kelly — But, haven’t you ever heard of a marathon? I watched the first couple seasons when I still had Showtime. Then I rented season 3 from the library for free. And of course now Showtime has so many good shows, its not that big of a deal to pay for it again. (Back then Dexter was all that I watched and their movie selection was beyond laughable.)
Side note: If you like Michael Hall, then Six Feet Under was a great show as well. Although he plays a g!y so I’m not sure if you’ll be able to handle all that.
Speaking of marathons, Spike TV has a ‘Bar Rescue’ marathon on right now and the new season starting tonight at 9pm Eastern with back to back episodes. It follows along the lines of Hotel Impossible, Restaurant Impossible, where the host visits struggling bars and fixes their problems.
July 29, 2012 at 12:21 pm
Seems the huff post thinks Tripp called Willow a f-gg-t. Now, since it was bleeped I’m sticking with the other F word. However, seeing that this family is anti-G I can see that using the ‘other f word’ would probably make more sense. In fairness Bristol had this to say:
“Let me be clear. I’m not proud of what he did say. Sadly, he used a different ‘f-word,’ ” she added. “Lifetime filmed over 12 months (on and off) and they caught a moment on film that would cause any parent to be red in the face.”
“Tripp is always surround by adults — around the campfires with cousins and their friends, at the shop with my dad and his snow machine buddies,” she wrote. “He’s apparently picked up some language that I’d prefer he not use. On national television or at home.”
“I guess the temptation to label my three year old son is just too great for the lefty papers to resist,” she added.
Why not just blame the mystery F word on the lefty’s all together? Btw, any ‘reporting’ from FNC on this one? Greta? Holla if ya hear me!
July 29, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Yes, it’s the “lefty papers’ ” fault.
July 29, 2012 at 1:29 pm
Howard Kurtz complained this morning about Aurora dropping off the news cycle. I got news for ya, Howie, your network is running another “special” about it tonight.
CNN has gone out of their way to stretch this story into a continuing series for the network, and it got exploitative and vaguely repulsive a long time ago. Enough.
July 29, 2012 at 6:03 pm
Yes it is. I hope all these reality show kids grow up and sue the sh*t out of everybody.
Sue them for what, Einstein?
July 29, 2012 at 6:10 pm
I’m annoyed that the NFL and NASCAR’s historically awful racing season get more coverage on ESPN than the Olympics…..
Seriously though, CNN has slipped in to irrelevancy. The Aurora massacre was a big story, but not worthy of weeks of wall-to-wall coverage. It’s not even close to a 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina. CNN wants EVERYTHING to be Hurricane Katrina and that’s why they’ve slipped in to irrelevancy.
July 29, 2012 at 6:29 pm
Exploitation of children for ratings, genius. It’s coming. One of these days a young adult is gonna decide that video of him on a reality show that still haunts him on YouTube was a violation of rights. And there’s gonna be lawyers more than ready to take up that cause. Parents don’t have the right to humiliate their children on television for fame and money.
July 29, 2012 at 7:37 pm
Lawyers are ready to take up my cause of sueing the lame brains that watch the reality show crap for damages to the health of quality TV. Well, I can huff and puff and say that even if it isn’t true. Makes me feel good.
July 29, 2012 at 7:48 pm
This isn’t just about the Palins. They are hardly the only people pimping their kids for a reality-show. We have the advantage of being fully aware of what often happens to former child performers, so ignorance isn’t even an excuse.
July 29, 2012 at 8:12 pm
Ah, but if they all could turn out a Ron Howard.
(except the girls)
July 29, 2012 at 8:13 pm
Old and bald is no way to go through life, son.
July 29, 2012 at 8:15 pm
I take offense at that.
July 29, 2012 at 8:18 pm
Probably lawyers ready to take up the cause of ex-child stars and end the filthy practice. Let children’s parts be played by midgets, muppets, or small animals.
July 29, 2012 at 8:45 pm
No, my screed is not specific to the Palins. Reality shows are a pox on civilization, and I look forward to the day they’re lawsuited out of existence. So we can get back to more meaningful television. Like According To Jim.
July 29, 2012 at 9:08 pm
The Newsroom is Aaron Sorkin is on steroids.
July 29, 2012 at 9:11 pm
I thought tonight’s Newsroom was pretty strong, but the shrink/back-story schtick was used several times on The West Wing. It’s a good schtick, thlough..
July 30, 2012 at 2:54 am
Forgot about another show I watch! Pregnant in Heels with Rosie Pope. I love that woman.
July 30, 2012 at 4:46 am
I look forward to the day they’re lawsuited out of existence.
Right. Because that’s the mature, civilized, and American way to handle frustrations when you personally don’t like something.
July 30, 2012 at 4:46 am
Miss Advised is THE worst trainwreck.
July 30, 2012 at 5:00 am
Speaking of good TV, lawyers make some fine moments with their now ever present ambulance-chasing commercials. “Hi, I’m Larry, and I have mezzo mezzo mezzo. Or at least my attorneys at Dewie Cheetum, and Howe, tell me I do.”
July 30, 2012 at 5:05 am
Wow. You guys watch a lot of television.
July 30, 2012 at 5:14 am
Tell me again who are we supposed to be for in Syria?

Egypt is springing along so nicely.
July 30, 2012 at 9:45 am
Wow. You guys watch a lot of television.
You’ll have time to watch tv too if you lay off the FNC! Btw, I don’t watch anything live except for sports.
Tell me again who are we supposed to be for in Syria?
Haven’t you learned anything from reading Terance’s post over the years, Larry Kelly? We’re for both sides at different times and that’s the way we roll. Also, that goes for dem & repub administrations. Its all about the oil and other natural resources plunder, eh.
July 30, 2012 at 10:41 am
Syria isn’t exactly an oil giant. Ranks 34th of oil producing countries just ahead of Equatorial Guinea.
July 30, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Right. Because that’s the mature, civilized, and American way to handle frustrations when you personally don’t like something.
I personally don’t like child abuse, you unfeeling morons.
July 30, 2012 at 1:40 pm
and we, of course do, is the moronice implication.
July 30, 2012 at 2:52 pm
There’s no “we”. My comment is specifically addressed to that odd couple who hide behind a shared username and oppose anything I say simply because I say it.
July 30, 2012 at 3:02 pm
Well, that’s not me as I agree with you far too often for my own good.
