HOT: the cable love for Bill Clinton steamed up my TV even a bit more than that for Michell Obama.
NOT: Obama speaks in his most rousing cadence, but adoration supply for the week so depleted as to barely get him a meh.
HOT: the convention meltdown featuring the booing of GOD and JERUSALEM merits a cable, Twitter, and blogosphere heatwave of discussion.
NOT: the convention meltdown featuring the booing of GOD and JERUSALEM merits a broadcast network news freeze. Ten seconds on NBC & CBS. Zero seconds on ABC.
September 8, 2012 at 3:41 pm
HOT: MSNBC tops DNC ratings. (Did anyone expect otherwise?)
HOT: CNN/CNNI Bahrain Doc squabble.
NOT: Ailes ‘New Deal’ report. Speculation run amuck.
Except for the DNC, which I will refrain from commenting about, it was a very slow week.
September 8, 2012 at 7:07 pm
Hot: Convention
Not: Convention
September 8, 2012 at 9:07 pm
Caption on CNN: Turkey Rape Revenge Trial. Perhaps a bit more thought might have gone into that.
September 8, 2012 at 10:55 pm
HOT: Unless the other networks broke in, CNN has to get some credit for actually broadcasting live the moment the convention vote happened and it didn’t appear to be a majority. Albeit, all three networks beat it to death, but watching it live on CNN while both FOX and MSNBC appeared to be doing talk soup was fascinating.
HOT: Of course, MSNBC gets to claim at least one win this week, which is fairly amazing at them. At the cost of being journalistic, but hell, none of the networks except CNN are trying anymore.
Otherwise, I don’t know what’s been happening.
September 9, 2012 at 8:56 am
NOT HOT – Judge Jacqueline Hatch is being roundly criticized for the stunning comments she made to the victim of a sexual assault.
“If you wouldn’t have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you,” Coconino County Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Hatch told the victim. “When you blame others, you give up your power to change.”
NOT HOT – FNC hasn’t tried to sign this ‘Judge’ up to a contract yet!
September 9, 2012 at 1:49 pm
Not Hot: http://twitpic.com/aswlo7
Yikes! Looks like the description the Navy Seals from the UBL deal were right on: “He reminded me of someone’s drunken uncle at Christmas dinner’”
September 9, 2012 at 2:02 pm
RED HOT: MSNBC’s ratings bonanza. Look for more of this type of coverage (ahem) during the campaign. And beyond. For good or bad, Griffin took a comatose network and has made it viable again. Somewhere Keith Olbermann is cursing the guy in the mirror. Who, of course, in return is calling the other guy an idiot.
HOT: Ailes’ upping for another deal – at 72. You’ll need to pry Fox News from his cold, dead hands.
NOT HOT: Cable convention coverage. There was very little there there. But to be fair, conventions have largely outlived their usefulness. Coronations now, not real events.

Joe Biden cang hang in a diner with bikers. Yeah, let’s get all twisted up about it #cuzideology
September 9, 2012 at 3:35 pm
Ah, I missed that pic over here. I love it. All I can say is that the man certainly trusts his Secret Service.
September 9, 2012 at 3:40 pm
Mitt Romney: “I love motorbikes. The Board of Directors at Harley-Davidson are good friends of mine.”
September 9, 2012 at 3:51 pm
Outrageous, Biden’s biker photo issue is taking time away from discussing the real issues: Romney and the cupcakes and Ryan’s marathon time.
#intellectualconsistencyishard
September 9, 2012 at 3:57 pm
I’ll take the sweet old guy chilling with bikers over a couple of pathological liars, but thanks for playing.
September 9, 2012 at 4:00 pm
Right, about cupcakes and marathon times.
You zero right in on the important issues.
Thanks for throwing away your vote.
September 9, 2012 at 4:01 pm
Gee, let’s all get tediously self-righteous and unnecessarily political over a dopey photo.
September 9, 2012 at 4:07 pm
Agreed. Let’s throw in cupcakes and marathon times into the dopey category.
It’s all nonsense but some folks think it’s important.
But then also complain that the Biden photo is nonsense. Which it is.
Like I said, intellectual consistency is hard for some folks.
September 9, 2012 at 4:11 pm
Humor is hard for some folks. Cheer up.
September 9, 2012 at 4:15 pm
Not everything is about “Joe is a jerk”. Some, but not all.
September 9, 2012 at 4:17 pm
I don’t have a problem with Uncle Joe going into a biker bar for a conversation with bikers. What I have a problem with is the girl practically sitting on his lap. I guess I am one those weirdos that still thinks that those in the office of Pres + VP should act more appropriately.
.
Call me CRAZY!
September 9, 2012 at 4:20 pm
You’re CRAZY!
September 9, 2012 at 4:22 pm
Oops. Two “Joes”. My bad.
September 9, 2012 at 4:35 pm
^ Coupla jerks.
September 9, 2012 at 5:16 pm
You’re CRAZY!
Wow. Really biting hard on my tongue right now.
September 9, 2012 at 5:20 pm
HOT: More Joe news.
http://www.mediaite.com/online/joe-scarborough-on-romney-a-real-conservative-would-be-winning-now/
I don’t know if he’s right about a real conservative doing better, but he’s right about Romney’s ridiculous campaign. You can’t win the presidency solely on negativity and “we’ll figure it out after the election”.
September 9, 2012 at 5:45 pm
Joe’s not right and I told him so on Twitter. The only way to get elected is to either a) promise stuff you can’t possibly deliver on or b) don’t make any waves and play it safe. Anyone who sticks his chin out will get wacked…especially one who proposes ideas which will piss off a bunch of people no matter how necessary they are.
September 9, 2012 at 6:14 pm
^Exactly. At least for this race in this environment.
This is a “Who cares more about you??” race. And advocating drastic sacrifices ain’t going to work. That’s why the Romney ticket has to emphasize that any changes in entitlements will not affect current recipients. In fact, he just said today that he’d keep some of the changes in Obamacare/ACA.
It’s also why, I think, Obama made such a tepid speech with little specifics. He’s not going to throw out any targets that Romney can shoot at.
Both of these guys are going to play it close to the vest and hope for a break. The advantage is with Obama though and maybe Romney will have to risk things.
September 9, 2012 at 6:20 pm
The Electoral map is turning to crap for Romney, but he doesn’t seem intent on making any changes in his campaign style. It’s bewildering to watch. He seems convinced he deserves the job, and that’s good enough to get it. He’s wrong. On both accounts.
September 9, 2012 at 6:22 pm
That’s exactly what Obama is doing as well. He thinks he doesn’t have to advocate anything, just attack Romney, play it safe and let the map do its thing.
Both of these guys are running negative campaign and not talking about what they plan to do.
Neither of them deserves to be elected.
September 9, 2012 at 6:27 pm
The electoral map has been looking progressively better for Romney week after week. While advantage still goes to Obama, there’s now quite a few more combinations of states for a Romney win even if he loses a state like Ohio.
September 9, 2012 at 6:31 pm
There he goes again. Joe seems to thing his right to an opinion allows sloppy fact. At least lately. He used to more caustic but less careless. Must be a equilibrium there?
September 9, 2012 at 6:39 pm
I trust Nate Silver. He thinks Romney’s got an uphill climb against the Electoral map. I believe him.
September 9, 2012 at 6:56 pm
As a snapshot maybe, but the trend slowly inching to Romney. Even Joe Trippi admitted. Too early to draw conclusions. People made similary ones about Romney winning the nomination. This election can swing on a dime. Debate performance, international events, Biden arrested for groping a biker chick. Anything.
September 9, 2012 at 7:06 pm
If Romney thinks he can win the debates by laughing every time he’s asked to explain himself, then accuse “the media” of sabotaging him, he’s dreaming. You can win a Republican nomination that way. Not the General.
September 9, 2012 at 7:11 pm
He does need to stop that habit of laughing. Just answer the question.
September 9, 2012 at 7:26 pm
Some habits can go on for years. Literally.
September 9, 2012 at 7:49 pm
The laugh drips entitlement, as does Mitt Romney’s entire campaign. “How dare you ask me a question; you don’t need to know how I handled my finances the last ten years; I’ll tell you how I’m going to change things after you vote for me.” The most bizarre presidential run I’ve ever seen.
September 9, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Romney doesn’t seem to act at all entitled.
September 9, 2012 at 8:19 pm
Joe’s just foaming at the mouth with trash talk like that. What does Obama have to offer but four more years of broken promises? If he dropped his wealth redistribution attempts, his backers would no longer prop him up.
September 9, 2012 at 8:28 pm
I’m just being caustic.
September 9, 2012 at 8:31 pm
He can even be sarcaustic.
September 9, 2012 at 8:46 pm
Candidates can’t really be specific about much anything, or they lose the voters that don’t like the specifics. Obama no different then Romney. All he can say about saving Medicare is that he will work to reduce health care costs and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse (what’s he waiting for?), which is saying nothing. If he is entertaining any serious solutions he dare not say. I might criticize him for that, but I understand he doesn’t have much choice. All the specifics are no help if they lose you the election
September 9, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Oh please. Obama has an entire four year record already. We know what he wants to do, and have a good idea what the odds are of him getting what he wants (lousy). All we know about Romney is he was a moderate governor who invented Obamacare, used a massive influx of government cash to save an Olympics, and bought and sold some businesses.
Now he says he’s not that governor, and he’s gonna fix stuff. Uhh, I’m gonna need a little more than that..
September 9, 2012 at 9:10 pm
Romney has a record of fixing stuff. Obama has a record of not fixing stuff. There’s a clear choice between the two this election.
September 9, 2012 at 9:21 pm
He seems to be able to fix everything but his sights.
September 9, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Romney’s “can do” message would hold up better if he could run a halfway decent campaign. Now he’s talking about keeping parts of Obomneycare. Is there a single voter not already inclined towards Obama who wants to hear that from Mitt? He can’t stay on message, can’t give a straight answer, and hasn’t gotten ANY mileage from picking Paul Ryan. Whatever it is Mitt Romney is good at, campaigning for the General ain’t it.
September 10, 2012 at 8:12 am
Nobody knows what Obama will do a second term because , among other things, he doesn’t know what he will or can do.
If the Republicans hold on to the House, he’ll govern differently than if the Democrats capture it. Same, to a lesser extent, for the Senate.
And second term presidents don’t have to worry about reelection and can risk things that a first termer can’t. Obama’s said this several times. Will he sign on to entitlement reform? Who knows? The Woodward book shows that Obama doesn’t really know what he wants to do.
Moreover, which Obama presidency are we talking about? The first two years saw massive legislation on spending and healthcare and financial regulation. Will we see a repeat of that? Or will we see a repeat of the second two years where he had to fight off an insurgent Republican Congress.
Nobody knows the answers to any of this. Especially Mr. Obama.
September 10, 2012 at 10:02 am
He will have to make his mark in the first two years as lame duck Presidents in the last two of their second term usually get pushback even from their own party as it looks to its future. I expect he will manage to get some golf in and find little escapes from Michelle’s veggie burgers.
September 10, 2012 at 10:22 am
^Yeah, probably something like that. Muddling through.
Completely different presidency than his first term. Or at least first two years.
Although he might – might – agree to some sort of deficit reduction package. I think if he was offered that previous deal again, he’d sign on to it. He couldn’t do it the first time because his liberal base would have gone nutso (see above).
However, if he’s not as worried about them he might just sign on.
Iran? Who knows.
As I said, nobody knows what the heck he’ll do. Or even try to do.
