Craig Crawford leaves MSNBC…

Longtime MSNBC analyst Craig Crawford has left the network…according to Craig Crawford

For those who might be interested – and you have every reason not to be – I am no longer with MSNBC. Three months short of my current contract I sent the following to the boss, Phil Griffin: “Phil, Just wanted to give you the heads up that my situation with MSNBC has become so unrewarding for me that I’ve decided to move on. — Craig”

And Crawford saves the real venom, and dirt, for the thread comments…

Can’t tell ya how hard this choice was to make. I’ve had a difficult time with MSNBC since the presidential primaries, should have pulled the trigger long ago. but my scotch-irish blood keeps me loyal long past the bitter end, which has long past, sadly.

_______________

i simply could not any longer endure being a cartoon player for lefty games, just gotta move on to higher ground even if there’s no oxygen

_______________

thanks bethy, i have never and never will forgive Chris for calling me a racist after the West Virginia primary (the last time I will ever go on air with him). Probably should have resigned then and there, but better late than never.

Crawford was a mainstay on MSNBC for a very long time and also one of the more level headed analysts they had. If the Craig Crawfords of the network are getting fed up with what’s going on, that’s bad. One can only infer from Crawford’s tweets exactly what at MSNBC is going wrong in his eyes (“lefty games”, while a pretty provocative term, is also maddeningly inexact and unspecific) but it’s obvious he really got fed up with Matthews. But aside from Matthews, what else?

Update: Crawford expands on his explanation to Mediaite’s Steve Krakauer

I haven’t felt like a good fit for MSNBC since the presidential campaign, and the hard turn toward point-of-view programming. No particular event brought this on, just my desire to try other outlets and have more fun. As far as Chris is concerned, on Morning Joe after the West Virginia primary he accused me of always defending Clinton and what he claimed to be her racially motivated campaigning. That’s the problem. Trying to be fair became seen as bias in the new thinking over there. But I do wish my many pals at MSNBC nothing but good things.

Adds Krakauer…

The decision by a Countdown regular to leave MSNBC because of his the way he perceives the network is a notable one. Although Crawford isn’t purely left-wing, he is a commentator that represents the left perspective. His exit, and his reasoning, show some level of discontent among those who may be politically on the same team at MSNBC.

No kidding. It’s a problem.

  1. Didn’t Keith Olbermann kick Crawford off his show after Crawford defended the Clintons and attacked the press corps’ behavior towards them on Morning Joe? Before that, you saw Crawford on Countdown almost every night. Afterwards, you never did until after the primary season was over. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who publicly attacked Obama’s anti-Iraq record, was a Countdown regular who got the boot, too.

Crawford’s comments on Morning Joe were something:

“I have watched the coverage, and I really think the evidence-free bias against the Clintons in the media borders on mental illness. I mean, I think when Dr. Phil gets done with Britney [Spears], he ought to go to Washington and stage an intervention at the National Press Club.”

You can watch the clip here:

  2. I don’t think I saw Crawford on Morning Joe much after this, either. Scarborough and Brzezinski aren’t lefties by any measure–I don’t care what anyone claims about Mika–but defending the Clintons is beyond the pale for members of the DC-Manhattan media clique, regardless of political orientation.

It,s becoming more and more obvious how liberal, progressive pundits are on msnbc. They push a Obama agenda with every sentence they speak. What,s worst is that Cris is not the worst of them. All of msnbc programming is geared to campaign mood for Obama,s political agenda. Whats so hypocritical thou is how they label fox for being bias. One would beleive that conservatives republicans, Sarah Palin, fox news and tea party folks are dangerous , liars, crooks, and racist if you watch msnbc. I think most level minded people are starting to realize and see through msnbc at last. Craig has opened the eyes of most of us.

  4. Because he has already done this before followed by a short stint at CNN, I expect leaving MSNBC will be followed by a move to FNC, where his strong defence of the Clintons will surly be more welcome than at MSNBC. I can’t wait to see his unique brand of humor displayed on Hannity or with Steve Ducey on F&F. Must see TV.

If it’s take this long, and even after Chrissy’s “WE (MSNBC) have a vested interest in Obama’s future success” comment, then they’re freaking idiots who should have a court-appointed keeper.

  6. “It,s becoming more and more obvious how liberal, progressive pundits are on msnbc.”

I don’t think they were trying to hide it.

“They push a Obama agenda with every sentence they speak.”

Your claim would hold some credence if you actually noticed that most of MSNBC, primarily Olbermann, Maddow and Schultz, disagree with President Obama on many of his stances, including health care, Afghanistan, etc.

“All of msnbc programming is geared to campaign mood for Obama,s political agenda.”

Where? How? Present an example. Just because you say it doesn’t make it true.

“Whats so hypocritical thou is how they label fox for being bias.”

If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed they also label Fox as being dishonest and spewing partisan talking points… the same kinds that the Republican party repeats.

“One would beleive that conservatives republicans, Sarah Palin, fox news and tea party folks are dangerous , liars, crooks, and racist if you watch msnbc.”

That’s because they are and have been proved as so. Palin and her “death panels”? Racist signs at tea parties? Unconstitutional wars by Bush? Should I keep going?

“I think most level minded people are starting to realize and see through msnbc at last.”

Majority of level minded people have also already realized the bias far-right agenda and dishonest “reporting” by Fox News. That’s why majority of Americans don’t watch them. Look at the viewers Fox News Sunday, touted as a straight news program, gets. Meet the Press steamrolls them. The only thing at Fox that gets attention is their opinion programs like O’Reilly, Hannity and Beck.

  7. Durning the democratic primary I though the Obama team with help from the liberal media (msnbc, cnn, nyt, huffington post and others trashed Hilary Clinton, I could be wrong but thats how i saw it. Bill reailized that also. The Clintons didn,t know what to do,because they had always had the african american support, it was a no win situation for Hilary becuse 90 to 95 percent of blacks and all progressive liberals intended come hell or high water to vote for the black candidate, he was like catnip to them and the kennedys. They all wanted to rid the world with conseratives, and still do.

  8. Ho hum. Big Deal.

To Dougieness and his disinformation libtards:

    Ratings March 3, 2010

    Total day: FNC: 396 | CNN: 132 | MSNBC: 106 | HLN: 139
    Prime: FNC: 638 | CNN: 142 | MSNBC: 211 | HLN: 173

You can talk politics all you like, just don’t throw out BS when you clearly have no clue.

  10. I’ve always liked Craig Crawford. He was one of the few level-headed people at MSNBC who did not trash Hillary Clinton incessantly through the whole primary season. (Scarborough was OK, surprisingly.) I also sympathize with having a LONG memory re: those who acted like I was a racist for having voted Clinton, and who insisted that many of her base voters were racist. I do not blame Obama for this. But ever since, I’ve never thought much of many liberal blogs, Huff Post, Olbermann, Barnicle, O’Donnell, Matthews, etc. A lot of people went a little crazy during the primaries, Crawford wasn’t one of them.

  11. dougieness- The only reason ko, Raclhel , Cris and Mr. Ed has anything negative to say about the chosen one is when he,s not fulfilling their socialist, progressive, liberal, immoral view. Fox has liberal people and host , even hannity has liberals on his panel EVERYNIGHT. Now as for Palin, death panels has and always will exist. If a person is old, poor, and near death anyway HC has always been cut short. The goverment run HC will probably make it worse. You are quick to call Palin all kind of names so i guess that makes you some kind of special person, better than the rest of us.

  12. I am a liberal and progressive and my morals are just fine, thank you. I think we’d all be better served if we didn’t demonize the other side simply because we disagree on policy. And Palin’s statement about “death panels” was intended to scare people into thinking the administration’s (centrist, moderate) health care reform would result in government panels deciding who would live and who would die. It’s irresponsible fearmongering. If Palin has a point to make about what the bill would actually do, it’s incumbent upon her, if she wants to be a serious political figure, to make that point in a precise way. Instead of scaring people with a lazy catchphrase. And she chose to scare people.

Keep talking, AlinDC. We could use a lot more of that kind of thinking around here, and I’m tired.

The Clintons did do some racial politicking, and deserved some of the shots they took for it. I’m over it, and Hillary is a great SOS, but there’s a revisionist history going on on the left (and right) that proclaims all criticism of Hillary’s campaign sexist and undeserved. It’s a little more complicated than that.

  15. ouchboy Says:

A progressive liberal is for everthing to be free , given to you by the government. The government don,t have morals. When a church or fath based organization or charity gives, its based on goodness, love, family moral beliefs. Palin knows as much about HC as anybody else. Your government leaders don,t know whats in the bill. You don,t have to fear palin, remember shes not qualifed. theres no need to keep on trashing her.

  16. joeremi Says:

You don’t have a clue what “progressive liberals” are for, Grammar Boy.

  17. -Grammer Boy-

    The Guess Who?

  18. Just finished reading Sarah palins book. In my opinion she can do are be anything she desires. She has the IT in what it takes to be successful. I was most impressed with her christian values, which aloud her to be strong and not be influenced by self serving people with an agenda. She don’t believe that everything should be given to you as a right, it should be earned. Being intelligent is to withstand other peoples ignorance that can only trash her out of some insane agenda.
