What’s Hot/What’s Not: 07/18/10

What’s Hot:

Piers Morgan – With an agreement between NBC and Turner over the rights to Morgan, CNN can now “negotiate with the heir apparent to Larry King…

Steve Friedman – Friedman is tapped to EP Ratigan’s show.

What’s Not:

Talking Head Primetime Invades Daytime – The on air blow up between Megyn Kelly and Kirsten Powers was a textbook example of what’s wrong with cable news these days…

Mel Gibson Coverage – This is another example of what’s wrong with cable news these days…

Scientology vs. Anderson Cooper – The Church of Scientology going after CNN’s Anderson Cooper in print after Cooper did his Scientology “expose” a few months ago says more about the Church than it does about Cooper…

If you can’t stand the heat – Hardball’s abrupt cancellation of Pamella Geller says a lot about what Hardball is willing to examine on the show…

The Daily Caller vs. Keith Olbermann – Trying to take a page out of Olbermann’s book, the Caller is hoping Olbermann will take a page out of Bill O’Reilly’s book and make a big public stink about it. The smart play is to do nothing and deny The Caller the publicity it so brazenly seeks…

Spud, did you read anything I wrote about the Hardball/Geller story?

Jill Dobson getting canned should have made the list. Makes one wonder if they brought Arthel Nevel back to do entertainment reporting. I can’t imagine they would turn it over to Friel as the big chief.

Or with Banderas back with Huddy go back to entertainment?

  3. The on air blow up between Megyn Kelly and Kirsten Powers was a textbook example of what’s wrong with cable news these days…

That’s all Fox News knows to do… it gets them their precious ratings.

  4. …it gets them their precious ratings.

Yep. News, Jerry Springer style. FNC is one long reality show.

Hottest story of all, CBS “news” anchor Bob Schieffer admits on CNN he doesn’t read. He claims ignorance of the NBPP story. This is the network who trashed Palin for not listing off a bunch of useless newspapers to Katie Couric….and yet, Bob Schieffer DOES NOT READ anything except what is put in front of him by some Obama suck-up.

    BOB SCHIEFFER DOESN’T READ.

  6. Spud; Are you basing your opinion of the Hardball cancellation of Pamella Geller on just her blog posting? If so you might want to remember that no one on Hardball, to my knowledge, has commented on this item and we have no idea if it actually happened and if so was it just as she laid out. Pamella Geller is not exactly the most trustworthy, unbiased or even sanest source of information to base a take-down of a network show on.

  7. Jill Dobson getting canned should have made the list. Makes one wonder if they brought Arthel Nevel back to do entertainment reporting.

From what we’ve seen so far, Arthel Neville has been covering some of Julie Banderas’ co-anchoring duties, not entertainment.

I can’t imagine they would turn it over to Friel as the big chief.

Well, we can’t believe that Friel has lasted this long at Fox, while so many other women who are actually competent and intelligent have been let go. So it wouldn’t surprise us at this point if they push out Bret Baier and give “Special Report” to Friel.

Why are are NOT stunned? The only thing about this that surprised us is that he actually admitted his laziness and lack of intellectual curiosity.

ProgLib and joeremi, I just love quick you have just put the entire blame of the Kelly Powers debacle all on fox news. Not surprised.

Now time for reason, it was a heated topic that both are obviously very passionate about and it just got out of hand. Neither of them walked away looking good. It was unfortunate for both of them, that is all.

    ^
Edit: Sorry it should be “how quick”.

  11. Jacky, I watch plenty of Fox News – including more America Live than is good for my heart – and my “quick” opinion is an educated one.
