Couric to CNN?
The New York Post’s Michael Shain floats a trial balloon…
Friends of Katie Couric are saying the chances of her remaining at CBS are getting slimmer.
CNN appears especially eager to sign Couric now that the new show starring ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer is off to a stumbling start.
Jeff Bewkes, the CEO of CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, yesterday said that CNN has the money “to pay for some of the biggest talent in TV news” — just when CBS was saying that the era of the big-salary anchor is ending.
“The Katie Couric deal will be the last big deal of that kind ever done,” Les Moonves, the head of CBS, said this week. “Those days are over.”

Why would that work? The only slot at CNN that even remotely fits Couric is American Morning. Is that slot in play?

I disagree Fritz,
I could see them hiring Couric to anchor an hour-long newscast with some opinion/commentary mixed in. Heck, they might even give her two hours and dump John King.

Couric to CNN won’t help ratings for more than a week tops.
My suggestion would be to hire a boat load of reporters to bring in fresh news with that money.
Because CNN’s been getting their ass kicked without the AP. But, that doesn’t stop ’em from siphoning the content! I have the AP and CNN feeds right beside each other and have been comparing them since the split.
Quite often CNN “lifts” the AP’s content..
Plus, I read something a while back about the AP saying basically the same thing.

Nothing will help ratings. Somebody has to be last, and CNN is it. Quit screwing around with something you don’t have your heart in..opinion..and run CNN International at 8. Straight world news is vastly underserved here, and they’re great at it.

Couric will get Rick Sanchez’s slot. The show will be called Emily’s List.

She would be a better know Campbell Brown or Paula Zahn. Unless they come up with some new format that is so compelling it draws new viewers Terance is right; ratings up for a week or so then same old thing.
But to be fair I don’t remember many of us thinking Lawrence O’Donnell’s show was going to be as good as it is.

No, but Couric has had her own shows for 20 years. She’s not going to suddenly transform into something watchable. Do you know anybody that likes her?

As ideas go, that seems delightfully cruel. That’s entirely-too-close to stepping-back to local news.

I agree with Remi about CNNI.
But, lets not forget the domestic side has access to all the stuff CNNI reports on and mostly ignores it.
Also, lets remember back when they yanked Your World Today from the noon slot.. I actually watched that program daily and its a shame more Americans aren’t outraged at our sanitized news channels.
No wonder so many of them are well educated but completely oblivious of world events that aren’t filtered though CNN MSNBC FNC.

True. But she’s not exactly adept at hard news. She’s sort of like Kiran Chetry with a few more synapses firing and a more likable personality.

Couric, likable? Arrogant and annoying doesn’t spell “likable” to me..

She rose to the level of her incompetence. A full retreat and a heartfelt ”oops” is her best option. She won’t starve, in any case.

I never understood why people liked Couric. I think it had to do with her legs. FNC was not the first to use female legs to attack male eyes. Today did it first.

Anybody that can be “good” at that happy-talk morning show crap can’t be good for much. I’ll give her one thing: she was better than Jane Pauley..

Well, we in the BW house never disliked her. Not big fans either. I guess we just found her inoffensive and not stupid.
Yea, I know that’s a low bar.

just another rumor by yet another fine newscorp ‘news’ source. the post equals crap!
